cut off the supply of weapons to israel amongst war with gaza. that's why they're demanding a cease-fire despite being targeted for removal from office by staunch supporters. the world is on edge right now and rightly so. the u.s. is sending more troops to the middle east as israel braces for an attack from iran. meanwhile, vice president harris has shown herself better positioned to bring a cease- fire together better than trump. is it anything she can implement now. is it fair for people to ask, why are we giving bombs to

israel? these questions will be asked next at the dnc. for god's sake that needs to end. that is tonight's read out. inside with jen jsaki starts now. >> reporter: there's a lot going on. including trump's return to twitter. he started posting on that platform for the first time in a year. we're going to be listening to that so you do not have to do that. we'll update you if anything interesting comes up or newsworthy comes up. the mere fact this interview is taking place is alarming. i mean, the world's richest man

is using his enormous platform to basically give the republican presidential candidate a free ad. former congressman and presidential candidate beto o'rourke will be with us later on in the show. we're also following mayor breaking news today. the washington post is reporting the fbi is now investigating a suspected iranian hack of trump ally roger stone. and attempted hacks of both presidential campaigns. what was already a crazy story just got much crazier. and the washington post reporter who broke that story less than two hours ago is hustling over here right now to talk to us about it shortly. but first, there's been a lot
5:03 pm
of attention on the huge crowds for harris and walz. trump's reaction to these crowds has also told us a lot about him. i mean, after harris and walz filled yet another arena in michigan with a sea of real life supporters. he posted a statement on social media and i'm going to read it to you in full. because seeing it is one thing. but hearing it, is another. i'm also going to tell you why. has anyone noticed that kamala cheated at the airport. there was nobody at the plane and she ai'd it and showed a massive crowds of followers. but they didn't exist. she was turned in by a maintenance worker at the airport when she noticed the fake crowd picture. but there was nothing there. later confirmed by the reflection of the mirror like
5:04 pm
finish on the vice presidential plane. she's a cheater. there was nobody waiting. same is happening with the fake crowds of her speeches. this is the way democrats win elections by cheating and they're worse at the ballot box. she should be eliminated because those who cheat at that would cheat at anything. this is not your older uncle or your neighbor who's losing it. this guy wants to be the commander in chief again. here is what bluff treated. these are not conspirator rantings. the author could have the nuclear code and be responsible for decisions that will affect us for decades. one of the biggest stories of
5:05 pm
this election should be that one of the candidates is spewing unhinged conspiracy theories usually reserved for the darkers corners of the internet. now on a personal level, this type of unhinged conspiracy theory is when they're in some level quite disconnected from reality. they are frankly unwell. bull but i'm not here to diagnose donald trump. when you look at the random capitalization there's something perhaps more sinister happening here. if we're being generous and there could be some level of strategy here this is all part of trump's sinister plan. to question the outcome of the 2024 election. to condition his base to not even believe what they're seeing with their own eyes. that's, he uses things like cheater, cheat, fake crowds. this is all in this post.
5:06 pm
should be disqualified. these are messages to his followers. of course this is far far from the first time trump has done this. even just over the past few weeks. i mean take mprs check of trump in mar-a-lago he lied 62 times in 63 minutes which is not easy to do. in one of those lies he repeated several times was suggesting that harris' nomination is unconstitutional. of course as npr put it there's nothing in the constitution about picking vice presidential candidates. and who can forget when trump said harris turned black. her spot on the ballot isn't real, her race isn't real. don't belief what you are seeing, believe me. that is what trump is doing. here's why. right now he's looking in a race where his opponent is leading in the three of the
5:07 pm
four core states. raiding a whole lot more money than him. holding a whole lot events than him and is about to go into a democratic convention. harris is doing very well right now. so trump is looking for ways to delegitimize her support and even her standing on a ballot in an effort to call into question what could be a victory for her no november. her in november. reality is not looking so great for trump so he's sewing doubt in reality. it's happening again. so yeah trump is coming across as unhinged and unwell and he may be both. but the fact that there might be a strategy. that in my view is it. sarah matthews the former white house press secretary. i know they both have a lot of thoughts and they both join me now. george i'm going to start with you because you have not held back on twitter. you never do. you never hold back in person either reacting to this postfrom trump. so don't hold back now.
5:08 pm
what does this postsay about trump and where he thinks he stands in the election. >> he's a deep compensating narcissistic sociopath. you don't want to diagnose him but if you look at the diagnostic criteria for narcissistic diagnostic disorder in the american association he fits every one of them. it's like the criteria were made to describe him. and we can observe that for one week and we've been observing it for years. these are the type of people that become cult leaders, authoritarian dictators. these kinds of people ultimately go too far and they destroy themselves. when they reach that point of
5:09 pm
no return they can become delusional. this is the final collapse of donald trump. saying that those are 50, 60, 70,000 people in the aggregate in five rallies in several states. the new york magazine put it this way today, that's loopier saying that the moon landings were staged. because there were tens of thousands of people were there. there are hundreds of people. hundreds of people taking photographs and videos. you know, to think that is crazy and to try to sell it to people is just as crazy. he's done. his brain is fried. >> so sarah, i mean, you can also add to anything that george said. by all means he kind of covered it there. i say that because i think it's important for people to hear. nobody is making anything up here. it's a lot for people to manage in the campaign. you've worked for him.
5:10 pm
what's going on there behind the scenes? >> i think he feels this election is slipping away from him. that's where you're seeing him spiral and clinging to these conspiracy theories with the ai crowds. and despite him claiming where there's this photo with a reflection. >> don't feel like you have to explain. >> it's insanity. there will be people out there that will believe it though because he's pushing it. that's what happens when he gets desperate. he pushes these conspiracy theories. not just this one. him leaning into harris'. not only her. this is not the way you win campaigns. but that's what he does he uses these lines of defense that don't make much sense for campaigning. i can assure you his campaign team is telling him to talk about policy. they want him to go out and
5:11 pm
talk about the economy, immigration and things that voters actually care about. because i can assure you noneover these none of these things he's talking about at his rallies or truth social are top of mind in a vote. >> he doesn't seem capable of that. he seems very unhinged and all of the things you said earlier. but there's sort of an underlying theme here. which is him kind of questioning what the outcome might be. this is not valid. she's not valid. she's unconstitutional as a candidate which is not a thing. i think you can confirm. talk a little bit about what you're seeing about other aspects of his efforts that we should be concerned about. what else are you seeing in terms of his behavior and what they're preparing in that regard? >> i think you're right that he's basically preparing to say the election was stolen again
5:12 pm
from him. that's an old trick. even in 2016 he was saying if he loses he was going to have the election would have been stolen from him. that's something that narcissists do. they blame others. they can't accept defeat. so basically you cheated, he cheated, she cheated. everybody cheated. didn't happen. and he's reaching to the point where, for him he is not very smart. but he has a reptilian intelligence tells him to do that. to deny reality and to get other people to deny reality. and, but this time, it's really, he's really gone over the edge. because he's not just running for president, he's running from prison. he's already a convicted felon. if that case in florida ever goes to trial, he's going to get convicted. and he's going to get convicted down the street. because the supreme court immunity decision only goes to
5:13 pm
far to protect him. he's looking at prison. he could go to prison for the rest of his life and he's terrified of that. >> it means he's maybe more desperate perhaps than he was in 2020. then it was -- >> which is scary. >> winning an election but now it's more than that. you quit the election because of what you saw. this was the culmination of this in 2020. what is it like to sit and watch. there's pebbles of details here we're seeing, you know. the way he posts things. his preparation. to question the outcome, to lead into something similar. >> we saw this happen in 2020 when he started questioning the legitimacy of mail in ballots. he was laying the ground work to say that, that it was fraudulent. we know there's zero evidence of that. after the election he kept
5:14 pm
clinging of even more crazy conspiracy theories. he started to hearing people what they were talking about. he's going to be more desperate going into 2024 to ensure he wins because, he's not running to make america great again. he's running to stay out of prison. and so if he doesn't win this election, then he's scared of what will happen as a result. and, i think we're not talking about enough. the things that his campaign is saying too. even one of his top campaign advisors chris lasavida recently said that the election will not be decided on election day, it'll be on inauguration day and when donald trump swears his oath with his hand on the bible. on a recent rolling stone investigation shows there's 70 protrump election deniers who will be playing a role as election officials in key
5:15 pm
battleground states in the country. that is terrifying. because even if there's evidence, anything to suggest that trump won. >> 2020, these people will be pushing the things he wants and that is their background plan. right now his plan is to rev up his base. when we're talking about crowd sizes. that's not a winning message. so their back up plan though is to default on claiming that this election was stolen or rigged as they did in 2020. but it's going to be more extreme in 2024. >> those are such good reminders everything you listed. i want to play an ad that is
5:16 pm
coming out on cable. >> not many people want to go to his rallies anymore. >> they want to go to kamala harris' rallies. >> enjoy the rallies while they last donald, because where you're going, you're not going to have any. >> first of all that's your voice. >> i missed my calling. 30 years practicing law i could have been doing tv voice overs. >> you could have a future. watching that the crickets even. are you trying to drive him crazy. is that the goal of those ads. >> my anti psychopath pack has two goals. one to bring up his mental disorders. and get the media to talk about it. the fact that we're not talking
5:17 pm
about his mental disorders has normalized him. he has said a lot of insane things and first of all we have to wait until the most insane things for us to say, he's crazy. we've gotten so used to his crazy that it takes us to say, 70,000 people were not there. and we have to provoke him to demonstrating those qualitities of insanity. and he's already responded to one of our ads. >> if he sees that ad. >> stay tuned if he responds to this ad within the next hour we will tell everybody. always enjoy talking to you. thank you so much. >> thanks. breaking news, the fbi has the highest stake investigation. targeting not just the trump campaign but the biden-harris

5:20 pm
officials in the biden-harris campaign with spear phishing e mails. get this, source -rs also told the postthat the phishing attempt did succeed in communication with someone with no formal campaign ties. that would be roger stone. the long time trump advisor, you remember him. who tried to dig up information about hillary clinton. douglas barrett is one of the ones that broke the story from the postin the last few hours. you guys broke the story just two hours ago. tell me a little bit about what is in your reporting tonight? >> so the main thing is to understand is, we just learned a piece of this sort of a tip of the iceburg of this investigation other the weekend. what we're seeing is a larger side of isis. this investigation has been
5:21 pm
running since june. that means they've been working it for a while. the same suspected iranian hackers went after biden harris advisors as well as trump advisors. and it looks like so far, they were more successful in their hacking against trump related people than they were in their biden related people. but the big caveat there this is their biggest space. i don't think this is the last thing we're going to learn about this investigation and hacking effort. there's months to go. so i don't think we've seen the last of this hacking or other hacking attempts, i think it's important for people to know. attempts to intervene in u.s. elections is pretty common. you hear about them only when
5:22 pm
they become. >> that's the way hacking groups think about meddling or sowing chaos in american politics. but there's a history between iran and trump that is different. we saw last week obviously charges unsealed against someone who is allegedly conspiring to try to possibly conduct assassinations against political figures in the u.s. the iran-trump dynamic is more packed with energy and consequences than some of these other dynamics. but i do think, the over all message here is there are a lot of hacking elements trying to dig into computer systems and some of them are going to be successful. >> phishing, let me ask you first roger stone is someone that people know of.
5:23 pm
he tried to use phishing e mails from hillary clinton. >> what we're told is hackers were able to access his e-mail account and use that e-mail account to sort of direct e- mails at other people in the hopes of getting other people more closely linked to donald trump to get into their accounts as well. one thing to keep in mind, roger stone was convicted back in the day of lying to congress about hiss efforts to find out what e-mails had been stolen from hillary clinton and democrats. there is a degree of trying to access information and depending on which country you're talking about, depending on what they get manipulate that information. >> one thing i noted that's
5:24 pm
noteed in our reporting. i noticed introduction, over the weekend steven chung. was sent to reporters from an e- mail address on aol with the name robert, hostile to the united states intending to interfere with the 2024 election. we don't know that yet to be clear. what do we know about that? >> what the fbi is pretty certain of at this point is iran is behind the hacking efforts. meaning the attempts to steal data. it's still unclear to the fbi is my understanding as to whether the robert persona the e-mail persona is working for iran. or if that's just a different dynamic and there are multiple. one of the things you have to think about in the cyber world, at any given time there are multiple bad actors trying to
5:25 pm
get over on people. trying to steal data. trying to share data, all that stuff. so the bureau is not as certain that iran is behind the leaking part. but again, this is very early stages. and so, they may come to a better understanding of that as time goes on. >> sounds like there's a lot to learn. there's going to be a lot of work to do. a lot of coffee to drink. thank you for coming out here, i know you just broke the story. story. and why is the secret is the powerful ingredie theapoaequorin, campaign so eager to launch attacks against walz? we talk to beto o'rourke. in a clinical study, prevagen was shown to improve memory in subgroups of individuals who were cognitively normal or mildly impaired. stay sharp and improve your memory with prevagen.
