affair began, she decided it was time to tell her husband she wanted a divorce. >> i remember saying, we need to talk. nobody ever wants to hear that. he looked at me and said, are you having an affair? and i said no. >> why were you honest at that point? >> i didn't want to hurt him. >> what came next? >> we both got very emotional. he agreed to it. >> then came the shooting. day in try to think of anyone who could've been responsible. that's when she remembered a strange visit a month before the shooting from a man claiming to be a plumber. he said he was looking for a water leak in the building. >> he needed to check her pipes or something along that line. >> i said, okay. i thought what am i doing letting the strange person in my home and i had a feeling this isn't right. >> five minutes later the plumber was on his way.

parking complex and he brought a gun because he had no idea how sam would react. >> according to michael, it didn't go as planned. when sam saw michael was armed, he fled. >> michael ran after sam up these stairs and he said at some point while they were in the stairwell, sam turned. >> michael claims he was in fear and closed his eyes and fired his gum -- gun. >> with all the things he's telling you, he's in a relationship with danielle, do you think we need to talk to danielle? >> the next step was let's hear danielle's story. >> the detective left michael

and headed to the hospital where danielle had been waiting for updates on sam's condition. all danielle had been told was that sam had been shot. no one told her by whom. >> when i got there, she was crying. >> detectives recorded the interview. at first the detective didn't reveal he knew about danielle's lover michael minor her that it was michael who shot sam. instead, he started by asking danielle about her marriage to sam. danielle candidly described it as troubled. danielle explained she knew sam was having an affair despite sam's best efforts to conceal it. danielle admitted she too was unfaithful. >> she was pretty straightforward and told me about the affair.

hi, i'm richard lui with a news update. the middle east remains on edge after israel's military and terrorist group hezbollah traded attacks over the weekend. israel referred to it strikes as preemptive saying detective plans by hezbollah to carry a large-scale attack. a hurricane is moving away from the hawaiian islands. the category one storm is brought high surf in winds as well as dropping 15 inches of rain on the big island. 24 hours after sam dreher had been shot, his condition began to deteriorate rapidly. sam's sister was there when the family decided to take him off life support. >> i hated it. i thought of him like he was one of my children. i love tim that much. >> were you able to be with sam and hold his hand as say good-

accomplice so she waited, thinking time would compel him to come forward and admit danielle was involved. he never did. michael maintained danielle played no role in the murder. is this possibly twisted act of chivalry? >> i think that's one of his motivations if not a soul might ovation was trying to protect the woman he loved. >> did you say, why are you protecting her? >> yes. he said i'm not protecting her. >> we were hoping he would, i want to tell you the truth, want to tell you what part she had in it. that never happened. >> 2.5 years after shooting sam, michael minor agreed to plead no contest to second- degree murder. >> it will live with me forever. >> in exchange, michael received a sentence of 30 years. >> i wouldn't give him anything less than that. he pulled the trigger and pulled it four times. >> i was glad he was going to

cases that are easy. it's to prosecute criminals. >> just when everyone thought danielle was free and clear, the prosecutor said not so fast. remember michael minor's videotape break-in of dianne mcknight's apartment? the prosecutor believed danielle helped plan the break- in and she instructed michael to steal some of dianne's possessions. danielle was charged with burglary and theft. at trial the defense argued danielle never asked michael to steal anything. the jury did not agree. she was found guilty and sentenced to three years in prison. >> this was a satisfying verdict to see the woman be punished for her actions. >> is the murder of sam dreher an open or closed case? >> it's a closed case. >> never cindy who mourns the loss of her brother. she keeps his uniform close by and with the, a lifetime of

memories. >> he was loving. he was caring. he was the peacemaker and doing for others. he was sweet. >> cindy once felt the same way about her sister-in-law danielle, but now there's bad blood between the two. cindy fought over benefits of the life insurance and they ultimately reached a confidential settlement. cindy also keeps a watchful eye on danielle. according to cindy, danielle was dating another man before she went to prison. >> she was living with a firefighter as a matter of fact. one of my brother's suppose it fire brothers. >> what is your advice to this firefighter? >> watcher back. the last two guys involved with danielle, one is data one is in prison. >> as for dianne, she's left to reflect in a lifeless sam that could have been. did you talk about marriage?
