in concord, alyssa goard, nbc bay area news. we are learning more about the suspect in a standoff that shut down interstate 80 in solano county for hours. we brought you this as breaking news all evening yesterday. we now know that the suspect is in critical condition in the hospital. now, this all started yesterday in sonoma county. a woman reported someone firing a shot and hitting her car. officers chased the suspect through three different counties to i-80 in fairfield, where a spike strip stopped him. but still he refused to surrender. now, officers spent hours trying to get the man out of his car. now you can see smoke. a smoke bomb was part of that effort. the suspect shot himself during the standoff and was initially thought to be dead. but we now know that first responders were able to revive him at the hospital where he remains gone. in a matter of minutes. new details about a brazen theft at a sunnyvale jewelry store. investigators say up to a dozen people stormed the store this afternoon, clearing it out completely.
