especially if like and this is one of my pet peeves, the governor of the bank of england, andrew bailey, and others insist on paying the interest out of one pocket to the other and counting that as real money, and therefore having mr hunt tell us that we're hard up. it's not true. but that's neither here nor there for this discussion. i think a more important figure not to take away from what you said, but a more important figure, is actually the spend as a percentage of gdp . sure, we've percentage of gdp. sure, we've gone from like 39% up to almost 50 during the pandemic. gone from like 39% up to almost 50 during the pandemic . well, 50 during the pandemic. well, that's understandable, but we're at about 44% now, closer to france's 58. the states is 36. >> so we've gone from 39 stabilising at about 44 over a penod stabilising at about 44 over a period of time, spanning the pandemic. why has all this happened? do you think? >> you know, all the reports in all the media that i've read about this, both here and in france? the funny thing is , france? the funny thing is, nobody has said,

annmarie: we heard from andrew bailey yesterday at the bank of england and he pretty much imply that they are ready to go before the united states. is that your base case? lee: it is. this is why we have a negative yield of sterling against the dollar. look at what the rate are could has pressing. the first bank cut is september. pretty much the same as where the fed are in terms of rates pricing. that makes no sense to me. u.k. growth is negative. you can -- u.s. growth is twice, 3.1% in the first quarter. very, very different economies right now. u.k. inflation is higher than expected this morning it is now below u.s. inflation, headline for the first time since 2022, moving in different directions, the u.s. growing above trend, the u.s. in recession. the bank of england should be cutting before the fed. no doubt about it area the market still doesn't have that price, it has to be pulled forward with sterling weakening and you can see the euros sterling higher in that story. we pulled forward on the ecb but not the bank of england in the same way. jonathan: you talk about parity on

do you think andrew bailey, the governor, should be out? well, i don't... i don't support his continuation in thejob, no. we didn't know we were sitting on a tinderbox. mm, which you set fire to. well, i'm not sure... ijust wonder if it is all sounds like you're looking for somebody else to blame. well, i do believe that... i mean, what i am saying is, yes... it was somebody else's fault? well, i'm not saying i'm perfect and, you know, nobody*s perfect. it's all very well saying, "liz, do you accept any of the blame?" i'm frankly not going to let them get off the hook. you talk in the book about the deep state. i mean, isn't that to indulge in conspiracy theory kind of quackery? well, it's a description of a group of people, an orthodoxy, a groupthink, that is not accountable to electors. you offer plenty of praise of donald trump in the book. do you hope he wins again in the autumn? yes, i do. why? because i believe that we need a strong america. under donald trump, when he was president of the united states, the world was safer. let's talk about a coup
