but let's take you up into the santa cruz mountains, the town of ben lomond, of course, always one of those in the region with the most rainfall. one resident we spoke with there today reported 4.5in in her rain gauge in her backyard. those official readings will come in just a little below that. those ended early this morning at just under four inches for ben lomond, and you can see that fresh mound of sand that was just delivered to the valley churches united distribution point this morning after the batch was delivered earlier in the week, were quickly snapped up by residents. overall, though, the santa cruz mountains and the wider county came through this most recent storm fairly well, with only minor problems as so when the ground gets saturated, we have these very flashy creeks and rivers here in santa cruz county that rise and fall quickly, and if there's nowhere for that water to go, they all funnel down into the creeks and we'll see flooding. >> that's what we were worried about with this recent storm. well, we're not concerned, but we're aware. >> and we prepare. so we get o

lomond spaced out over the course of about three days. it's something we'll keep an eye on. in the sierra they're under a winter storm watch thursday through sunday. travel is strongly discouraged. get up there by wednesday because thursday the snow starts to fall and these are not typos, 1 to 4 feet of snow above 3,000 feet in elevation, 5 to 12 feet of snow above 5,000 feet. that is a lot of snow. travel is treacherous at best and likely impossible. let's look at the seven-day forecast back to the bay area. we'll see enough cold air in the atmosphere that by friday night into saturday we could add up a little snow in some of the peaks above 2,500 feet in the bay area. it's a generally cool and chilly wet weather pattern that continues thursday into friday into saturday. then we taper things off to lingering showers sunday. monday looks like it will be dry, but running well below average for temperatures for the first several days of march. >> 5 to 12 feet of snow? >> feet. when you're measuring snow in yards, that's a lot. >> paul, than

santa cruz mountains, again almost close to 5 inches around ben lomond. look at san jose, about an inch of rain. 2 1/2 inches scloes to uvas canyon and also near morgan hill. top rain totals, as expected the higher peaks of the north bay. even san francisco to oakland, close to 1 to 1 1/2 inches of rain, and it's still coming down. 56 degrees in san francisco. gusts up to 42 miles per hour. gusting to 40 at walnut creek. mild temperatures outside. 56 degrees. san jose wind speeds are coming down a little bit. 37 would seem strong on an ordinary day, but san jose, you are closer to 65 miles per hour a bit earlier this morning. so wind speeds, you can see sustained winds outside around sfo, airport there. 37 miles per hour. notice the progression on these wind speeds from 6:00 to 10:00. and fortunately areas north of san francisco are trending strong past 10:00. so this is trending a little bit later, but once we pass midnight, you begin to see the purple and the red fade and those lesser wind speeds setting up as we head to 7:00 tomorrow morning. to the so

lomond had over 4 inches of rainfall.t was about three-quarters of an inch of rain to an inch. the high wind warning continues for the coastal areas. all of these areas shaded in the darker orange, where we have had wind gusts over 100 miles per hour. that was in marin county. this also in marin county, we had wind at 99 miles per hour. very close to 100 across the coastal areas and in some of our upper elevations. going into the afternoon, we're seeing the rain activity tapering off, but we may possibly have some thunderstorms moving through, these isolated cells that will be lifting from the southwest to the northeast. we will have that chance of rain into this evening. it does overall look like a dryer trend for us and we're not going to see as much in the way of gusty winds. and then going into the next couple of days, still some rain chances in the forecast. although we're not looking at any major storms coming in, and we will have a chance to dry out for the weekend, which, of course, at this point is much needed. w

and when you look at that total and ben lomond, the bulk of that activity has occurred in the last two hours, over 2.5in of rain in the santa cruz mountains. and then i did add livermore to the pack at 2/10 of an inch of rain. the reason is livermore has been sitting at 4000/100 of an inch of rain, all night long until the past 60 minutes, and the total has been going up. i'll show you that out in our radar imagery in just a moment here. but first off, this is system number one. this right here is system number two. this is the bigger one that's just churning out over the open waters, gathering some strength, the momentum. check out that plume. it goes all the way back to the hawaiian islands. so meanwhile, let's focus on what's going on right here, right now. we do have the band of precipitation now sagging to the south and also lifting up in an easterly direction. so the north bay is void of any kind of heavy precipitation. but the damage is done. we have a lot of flooded roads, a lot of ponding on the roadways there. meanwhile, as we traverse on over, it's the east bay that's still
