th greenberg, who teams up with james carville at the democracy corps, found young voters, black votershispanic voters, lgbtq voters, all of them collectively gave donald trump a higher approval rating than president biden. just today the jobs report showing 199,000 jobs added in november, the unemployment rate dropping to just 3.7%. stan greenberg is here. you've been doing this a long time. you paint a very grim picture. what was the most sobering thing you learned about the president's standing? >> yes. i reiterated it was grim because there is a path, the grim is in that the base is a problem. we're behind in this race in the base. approval of the president is lower than that of trump in the base. probably the hardest part about that is that if the issues at play, it's not just we're not doing well now and inevitably the structure of the race will come back, i think we're dealing with issues of prices, wages not keeping up with inflation. we're dealing with crime. we're dealing with the border. we're dealing with issues that eroding our people on the issues. we can, i believe, get t

it is the psychology, stupid, to paraphrase james carville.ve seen data hold up but sentiment stinks. people feel bad but keep spending. when you talk to your workers and customers, why is that? >> it is like this, i think. big companies are different from small companies. we talked about how small companies and manufacturers more more bullish. part of the reason is the small manufacturers, i was just on the factory floor a whole week working with the factory workers at our plant. they have good jobs. they are working pretty they have cash. their balance sheets have never been better but they are starting to get way down. they feel good coming out of covid. they feel like superman coming out of covid. they were at their posts when we had 600 body bags in new york and they got to see it all. now they are starting to see things like the wars. they see the idea china is going to go bad could they see the election. i asked everybody if congress did something yesterday that was good or bad for them, 95% said bad. they worry about a change like that
