back in our area in contra costa county, an attempted copper theft may have cost a man his life overnight. it started at around 230 this morning when richmond police started getting some reports of someone stealing copper and an explosion near the area of cutting boulevard and second street. when police and firefighters got on scene, they found a man's body in an underground pg&e electrical vault. investigators say it appears the man was electrocuted, triggering a power outage there. witnesses told police they saw three men go inside the vault, but only two came out. firefighters say they didn't find any evidence of vandalism, but did find a man's body in about five feet of water underground. it looks like he was trying to traverse on that makeshift catwalk. came into contact with some energized electrical, and that's what caused the issue. there was no actual fire or, you know, any sort of explosion in that sense as far as, like an eruption. it appears to be the energized electrical when he came in contact, that that's what the explosion sound was, how hard. and those who work nearby tel
