darien sutton joins us now to break it all down. good to see you. >> good morning, how are you?this is pretty surprising. tell us about the study. >> this is the first ever report of its kind focusing on risk factors, specifically within the lgbtq+ community and the reason why it's difficult is because it's been very, very hard to get that information from medical records. if you can assume or try to think about extracting that from medical records to figure out what risk factors we should focus on has been forever difficult. one of the most important numbers here is that 1 million people within the queer community are currently living with cancer and we know that these disparities -- >> gio: wow, 1 million. >> 1 million. we know they exist and talking about delays in the diagnosis, talking about misdiagnosis, worst outcomes, also in certain cancers an increased risk of recurrence so in this report they were able to identify some causes to that. one of them being behavioral factors. for example, there's a slightly but statistically significant increased risk of alcohol use and c

darien sutton. thank you for being here, darien. break this warning down for us. >> dr.ated 9 million people living with adhd are paying attention to this. this is due to a large shutdown of a large telehealth company by the department of justice. it has added more limitations in terms of access to these needed adhd medications. again, more than 9 million people are estimated to have this diagnosis, and it's leading many understandably to desperate measures which is why i think it's so important to take a moment and to remind about being cautious. a lot of these counterfeit medications that people are seeking out can look identical to the regular medications. it's incredibly dangerous. they can sometimes have contaminated substances. for example, fentanyl, and they can also be variable doses and so you might not know what amount you're taking and it can expose you to the risk of overdose. >> whit: what can parents do if they find themselves in this situation to make sure they're getting the medication that their kids need? >> dr. darien: this is an ongoing problem. the s

darien sutton joins us.ell us about this new variant that we're now hearing about. >> you might see headlines labeling this new variant the flirt variant. that's where the mutations are. we pay attention to these mutations because it tells us whether or not the virus is better at infecting ourselves and avoiding our antibodies which protect us. we're seeing it rising in at least 44 states and thankfully we're not seeing an increase of virulence or more infectious thankfully. but we do know the symptoms. very much seems like sore threat, congestion, fatigue, very much what we've seen before. it's an important reminder. number one, as we see these rates slightly increase, making sure you have your mask on you when you're in high-risk situations, especially for those who are high-risk making sure that you're up to date on your vaccines and i prescribe this this to my patients. if you're high risk and you get infected, paxlovid still seems to be available. make sure you get it when you need it early enough. >> w

darien sutton is here to break them down for us. thank you for being here, dr. janai: there is a new study about health dangers for overweight teenage girls and young women that they could face later in life. >> an important study to break down. this is a large study over 10,000 participants spanning over 50 years. they found that for teen girls having obesity at the age of 14 was associated with more than almost a double the risk of having a stroke before the age of 55, and that increased risk was not seen for teen boys. >> janai: wow. >> whit: really interesting. also, more states are legalizing and decriminalizing marijuana now and we're learning more about the impact on women and heavy cannabis use. >> so this is also an interesting study, it looks at women and heavy cannabis use, qualifying that as more than 100 uses during their lifetime. it found specifically for women had a disproportionately higher risk to cardiovascular disease. one big factor here however, is that the risk seemed to be the women who had chronic disease, for example, diabetes, high pre
