the tahoe donner cross-country ski area brought a new machine that makes snow. it's the first cross-country resort to turn to the snowmakers, creating enough snow for two miles of trails. that is expected to last until april. the resort has considered the option of getting these snowmakers for the past two years or so, and now a scientist with uc, berkeley snow lab thing v think other resorts will follow suit. >> it's becoming less predictable, as is our snowfall in general. the resorts are preparing for the eventuality that there will be a lot less of it. >> regulators say it's nice to know they can rely on the snow they made but it still anxious to see natural snowfall. >>> a live look outside for us this midday across the bay area. this christmas, air quality management district is asking everyone to refrain from using wood-burning fireplaces or stoves. it says that burning wood poorly impacts the air quality, and people are asked to not burn wrapping paper because that can lead to harsh chemicals in the air. we know the weather we're having, that could reall

this is along interstate 80 near donner summit. see a bit of snow there on side of the roads. but the the roads themselves are clear. they're clear. so, gayle, i i don't know, you know, the resort's going to have to make some snow. are they going to get to? >> i know they've been making snow. they didn't get a lot of this last system. but let's take a look at stormtracker. take a look. it's pretty quiet, right? so that's why we don't have a lot. but i know it's a great time to go for the holidays. and northern california is pretty much quiet. we had our active weather earlier this week. now that system is moving east towards the phoenix area in las vegas. just as you can see in the corner of your screen. so tahoe looks pretty good to travel for your holiday weekend. looks like mostly sunny skies, partly cloudy skies towards the back end of the weekend in the low 40's mid 40's for for, as for the rest of your getaway forecast, if you are heading down south to santa cruz at watsonville, monterey looks like we're in the low 60's for your saturday now. southern california. i know
