doug, let me start by asking doug brinkley, can you tell us and we'll go right down the road. okay. when you first remember being told about democracy, oh, my mom was high school english teacher. my dad taught social studies and we used to visit historic sites all over the country. so i came to mt. vernon as a boy to, you know, toured here. and my parents taught me about it. what it meant am i am my mom's brother was killed in world war two when he was jima. he was a marine. and my i think my mom's view of democracy came out of that world war two experience so that we were fighting democracy in world war two and we were fighting against fascism. we were fighting against, you know, the japanese imperialist and in i think that was really the traveling. and then going to libraries and just getting on all of the early founders, you know, reading about alexander hamilton and reading about the great, you know, jefferson, washington and many others. and that's continued throughout my life. so comes from like studying books, the founders, but also parents that kind of home educated me about
