you know, the visit does come as president biden, as gabe mentioned, has struggled with low approvalacross the board. he is also contending with a decline in support among black voters. some surveys have shown an uptick in support for president trump. the potential for black voters to stay at home or to vote third-party. i think some of the frustrations that we've heard from black voters date back to the failure under this administration to pass voting rights legislation and an overhaul of policing. those of course have been stalled in congress amid opposition from republicans. but moderate democrats such as joe manchin and kyrsten sinema, these are some of the challenges and frustrations i think the biden campaign knows it has to address in addition to the trns that black voters share with most americans around the economy, jobs, access to health care, abortion rights, student debt relief. biden campaign officials say they are going to make significant investments in media targeting black voters, and they see this effort to rally these voters early as a sign that they're not taking

cnn's gabe cohen joins us from that rally. gabe, what are you hearing from some of the attendees?porter: well, look, fred, first i want to give you a sense of just how large this crowd is. if you look behind me, a hundred, maybe 200 feet away, that's freedom plaza, but there are so many people packed in here that the crowd actually flows out here to the surrounding streets. we know that organizers have bussed in thousands of people from a couple of dozen states, and it really looks similar, fred, to a rally that was right here at freedom plaza in early november and the last massive pro palestine rally we saw here in the district, i was there. and frankly in the past two months into the message today really isn't very different. it's still people calling for a permanent cease fire in gaza, and also a crowd trying to put political pressure on president biden and the biden administration to end that unequivocal support for israel and end its military funding. look, we heard from a palestinian-american woman just a little while ago i spoke with who said she's lost family in gaza. she

we begin with cnn's gabe cohen in pennsylvania. good morning, gabe. what are you seeing?> reporter: yeah, amara, good morning. look, the storm watch here in central pennsylvania really doesn't start for a couple of hours. we're expecting snow maybe late this morning into the early afternoon. we're already seeing the first plow crews arrive here to the depot. they are loading up the trucks and getting ready to head out on roads across the region. they're going to try to clear the snow quickly because they're expecting potentially slick and hazardous continues for a lot of drivers, well the potential for fallen trees and power outages. and pennsylvania's department of transportation alone will have more than 2,000 of these plows out on interstates and major roads across the state, which speaks to the many thousands more that are going to be out from the mid-atlantic all the way up to new england on the state and local level trying to clear this first major storm of the year. what you're looking at behind me, this is the salt dome here in hairrisburg. there's more than 800,0

nbc's gabe gutierrez is reporting from the white house. what was telegraphed but now is happening, these attacks on the houthis in yemen? >> what we have been able to confirm from u.s. officials telling us the u.s. and the uk have already begun these strikes, but this comes after the national security council spokesperson john kirby earlier today warned the houthis of any attacks on any ships, and of course, the white house has repeatedly issued that warning. but up until now, really hadn't had much of an effect. now, the u.s. and the uk have been considering this for some time, and the u.s. had already responded by shooting down missiles and drones in the region. the u.s. navy also recently sank houthi boats that had fired on commercial ships. this is an escalation, going to these land-based targets. again, we don't have confirmation on exactly how many targets were hit. we expect to learn more in a short time from the white house, but again, no confirmation, official confirmation from the national security council, but the breaking news

i'd like to bring in correspondent gabe cohen in a snowy harrisburg, pennsylvania.hat's expected there? >> reporter: as you can see, fred, the snow is starting to pick up this afternoon. we've seen it over the past hour or so. it's really nice conditions. it's like 32 degrees, not too breezy at the moment. there is some limited visibility. you can see looking at the state capitol about a block behind me that some of the snow is starting to accumulate. it's this really heavy, more packable, dense ksnow, which is creating slick conditions out here. if you look at the roads, they look pretty clear. driving around, they are a bit slick. we know that crews pretreated a lot of roads here in harrisburg and really across pennsylvania. if you look at the side street here, it gives you a sense of conditions on a lot of streets, still snowy, icy. all we have seen throughout this early part of the afternoon and these roads getting more and more slick, these sidewalks are definitely slippery. if you look outside this business, you can see some owners, homeowners, different peopl

we're beginning with gabe cohen in pennsylvania, though. what are you seeing there? >> reporter: well, look, victor, the real storm watch starts late this morning, but we expect by about 8:00 a.m. it's going to be all hands on deck here, really across pennsylvania, certainly here in the harrisburg area. we'll see crews loading up plows and heading out on the street because they're expecting to clear potentially 1 to 2 inches of snow every single hour, up to 8 inches of snow in a lot of parts of the state. and, look, just to give you a sense of the resources they have available, the pennsylvania department of transportation alone will have more than 2,000 of these plows spread out across the state, plowing interstates and major roads, which speaks to the many thousand more on the local and state level that will be out across the region as we see this first major snowfall of the year. look, a lot of preparation went into this storm. it's not just today. they've been pretreating roads here across pennsylvania. what you see behind me, that's their salt dome. they have hu

we're watching the weather with gabe in harrisburg, pennsylvania. gabe, lot of snow. quite the accumulation since last time we spoke. how's it going? >> reporter: fred, a lot of snow and it has been accumulating over the past couple of hours. we have at least a couple of inches of snow here as you can see from front of the pennsylvania state capital. and bear in mind, they haven't had a winter storm like this here in this area in close to three years. and so right now, there are a lot of crews out trying to clear this snow. the pennsylvania department of transportation alone has more than 2,000 plows out spread across the state, plus there are all the county youcrews and cit crews. i want to bring in david west, the head of public works here in harrisburg. you drove a plow in this area. talk to me about the conditions. >> the conditions are very hazardous today because the snow is a wet snow which makes it heavy and the conditions even more hazard because it compacts easily. which turns into, can turn into a sheet of ice once it's compacted, becomes very slippery and

this is gabe gutierrez, the senior white house correspondent. he joins me now. what do we know? >> hi there, chris. as you said, the stakes are incredibly high around the world. president biden just released a statement saying more than 2000 ships so far have been forced to divert from the red sea. we're getting a video of one of these airstrikes tonight and are also hearing from senior administration officials who are saying that these strikes the intent was not to escalate the situation but rather to degrade the capability of the houthis to attack maritime vessels vessels. but chris, as you know, escalation could be a very big concern here. we have not yet heard from iran. around's response to all this, but we have already heard from the houthis who are promising payback. so the white house is trying to contain this conflict, preventing it from being a wider war. we don't have any indication on if there were any injuries in the strikes tonight, but, again, the president with a forceful statement saying at the very that the u.s. will not hesitate to direct further measures to p
