we hear a lot about polarization , the decline of trust and the breakdown of the institutions.merica is one of the most vibrant countries in the world with a long tradition of religious and economic. there are signs everywhere we are less able to appreciate and respect difference. and importantly, less thoughtful about what such diversity requires from our government and our reports. and so on this occasion, on constitution day, i want to recover the relationship between pluralism and our constitutional tradition. by pluralism the inherent differences between individuals religious belief in their chosen work. the framers of our constitution recognized the inevitability of human differences in the pursuit of happyness. it was deeply connected to individual liberty, served as an important principle find the specific form of government established by the constitution. first those who shape our constitution have firm and passionate belief about what was true in religion and politics. they were certainly not relative to this. they recognize others would invariably hold different pas

well dealing with the real world political economies of say, university budgets was frankly like fox go through the buzzsaw of modern day late capitalism. all the while my institution could be read almost as a photo of same scenario in the same time. these schools are cutting faculty staff in significant numbers, in extraordinarily painful ways. my university was raising money hand over fist. we ever. we entered into the echelons our one research. we are winning championships in midst of the pandemic. we're bringing in students in the hundred above what we had brought in the year. but in that context, right, the question isn't in the normal inflection can universities afford to have liberal and humanities. the question, the same question, but in a different inflection with a different accent that is can universities afford in this day and age with the kind of late capitalist political economy afford to have around afford to read texts like s-class aristotle on august ten. that would put extra pressures on the way universities are run in the kinds of in-home manages and the cultivatio
