robinson broke the color barrier in the 1940s. the recognition came after an independent committee spent more than three years reviewing player data. today the president of the league museum called this a watershed moment, and i do believe that all of us family members of those players of the leagues, that small existing existing number of leaguers who are still with us, and, of course, all of us here at the leagues baseball museum who are stewards of this story. this is significant. and it's amazing what's happening here to the record books. one of the last three living league players is giants hall of famer willie mays. he still lives on the peninsula. the new stats means he got a small bump in total hits, going to nearly 3300 for his career. mays played with the birmingham black barons before he was old enough to sign with the giants. the giants, by the way, will play a tribute game against the cardinals at the barons historic field in alabama on june 20th. this move also shakes up a record linked to giants legend barry bonds.
