here's a look back at 75 years of kpix. >> 1948 kpix went on the air. >> there's another aftershock. ♪ >> good evening to you. i'm juliette goodrich. welcome. we are at the intercontinental mark hopkins hotel here on nob hill known for its beautiful 360-degree views of city, so many people enjoying the view tonight. it also plays a significant part in kpix history. this is where it all began on this exactly 75 years ago by about 45 minutes from now on december 22nd , 1948, at 6:45 p.m. kpix signed on the air as the first tv station in northern california and it all happened right above the top of the mark bar. let's take a look. why the mark hopkins hotel? at the time it was the highest point in san francisco. so we have some archival footage to the roof of the hotel. in fact, engineers installed the bay area's first tv broadcast antenna. also our first master control room complete with some skilled technicians was in the attic of this very hotel. here's a fun fact. the very first thing our viewers saw was a test pattern for 15 minutes that gave new tv owners a chance to adjust their
