mike tobin is in ashkelon, israel. what's the latest, mike?tuart, off the northern end of the gaza a strip, let me take you to the southern end, the border with egypt, where there are a lot of developments happening today. ambulances showed up on the egyptian side with the promise that they would take the injured and sick palestinians out of the gaza strip, and with that foreign passport holders, some of them were supposed to get out. palestinians now say 110 is people got out with foreign passports. there was a list that was going around through the palestinian population of people who were supposed to be able to get out. americans and british suicides were not on that -- citizens were not on that list. so a lot of people crowded down the rafah crossing hoping there would be a chance they could get out of the gaza strip. it doesn't look optimistic for british and americans right now. a big strange yesterday went into the northern end of the gaza strip, the refugee camp, and created that giant crater in the ground. israel says the crater was c

mike tobin from southern israel. i want to tell you first that the evacuation of northern gaza has really picked up with intensity and with numbers. we see the palestinians coming out waving white flags pushing people on wheelchairs and carts and carrying whatever they can. to give you own idea how it picked up on sunday 2,000 people went on the evacuation corridor. monday 5,000, yesterday 15,000. the corridor was open again today. we don't know how many people are left. the problem they have is once they get south of the evacuation line, the refugee camps are overwhelmed at this point. no place for people to stay. meantime the israeli ground forces are picking up intensity in the northern half of the gaza strip. israel says they have another high value target. a guy who was integral in developing weapons. they took out an anti-tank cell and a cell that fired rockets into israel. israel's military leaders say they are operating in the heart of gaza city and tightening the noose. prime minister benjamin netanyahu is g

rachel: mike tobin live on the ground in southern israel with the latest. what are you hearing? go ahead. i was just going to say. >> reporter: i was going to say. got the delay we are competing with. as far as what i'm hearing, evacuation corridor has been opened up for an hour and will be open another two hours, not necessarily going that smoothly. the seeds of devastation in the northern end of the gaza strip with the refugee camp, the combat on the ground, the threat to life in the northern end of the gaza strip. there are two main roads. in the middle of the gaza strip, there's the beach road to the western side of the gaza strip that moves along the beach. most people prefer the beach road, easier traveling. the people there could see the beach road and there was a strike on the beach road so what i hear from gaza contacts, they saw the strike, they are not moving south. if they do move south, they were north of the evacuation line. if they move south there have been strikes, israeli forces operating south of the evacuation line. here's a spokesman for the idf. >> many ham

an update from mike tobin live in israel. good morning to you, mike. >> good morning, dana. we had another rocket barrage come out of gaza strip headed in ashkelon five minutes ago. this as israel says they're closing in on gaza city and hamas in gaza city for the first time mentioning the navy is closing in from the mediterranean sea. aerial bombardment has been a lot. they're at the edge of the neighborhoods around gaza city hitting command and control structures. we caught up with emily, an american woman who stopped in to see the in laws in the gaza strip before october 7th and got trapped. they survived what was left over in the cupboards and made the exit out of the rafah crossing into egypt. >> the night before we left, i couldn't sleep at all listening to the bombing in the distance and counting. i counted within one minute between 14 and 17 booms. it was every 4 to 10 seconds. i just couldn't get over how many i was hearing and i was trying to make sense of it all. >> our cameras captured some of the rocket fire making its way all the way up to tel aviv last night.

mike tobin is with us, this is an ongoing war. he's in the throes of every day. we have the secretary of state, and benjamin netanyahu making clear there is no cease-fire in the works temporary or otherwise. what's the latest? >> reporter: the rocket fire after a pause is coming out of the gaza strip and from this vantage point we watched a big fight to the northeast corner of the gaza strip. it is in the village the we watch the israelis put a lot of flares in that area to see what they are dealing with, we had a lot of small arms fire and launched helicopter gunships, unload weaponry to ground targets. today we've got a better idea what happened, hamas released some video showing their fighters going with small arms fighter and their homemade antitank weapons. israel has released video showing weapons caches and a tunnel to the very edge of the gaza strip. they went inside and israel says they neutralized the tunnel which means they blow it up, something they have to do time and again with this urban fighting. >> you open them up and they lead to a matrix of tu

. >> john: senior correspondent mike tobin for the latest on the ground in southern israel.he very latest, a fresh round of rocket fire here in sderot, we are getting a unified message out of the israeli leadership, and that is there won't be a humanitarian pause or ceasefire until all the hostages are free. this as the combat intensifies in the gaza strip. the gaza strip is divide in two, israeli forces above watti gaza, and you have as you mentioned, gaza city itself surrounded. the activity that we get out of the israelis is they are taking out a lot of structures. when they take out the structures, sometimes they do it with explosives, sometimes the heavy equipment, like the hydraulic shovels or the d-nine bulldozers, and recovered everything from rockets to guns, and a number of bomb belts. 400 bomb belts and equipment, idf says they have recovered. they also get the entrances to tunnels during this stage of the combat. they find them underneath structures, they found one that was in a children's amusement park right next to the ferris wheel. usually what they do is blo
