thank you, mr. chairman. good to see you again. always appreciate our conversations with you. i know are hearing today is focused on deaths of the incarcerated. i want to change the topic just a little bit and look at the treatment of our b.o.p. officers . and focus on what is happening with some of the assaults. that is against our staff, b.o.p. staff . not only the physical but ptsd. some of those issues that occur . yesterday, i introduced the safer prisons act. it would double the maximum term of imprisonment for assaulting a b.o.p. correctional officer . director peters, for you, i know you would agree that these assaults prevent a real danger for the prisons but i would like to have your support on the safer prisons act and have you support doubling that maximum term. >> thank you, senator. there are processes with the department of justice in terms of components being able to support legislation. i will tell you that the safety and security of our employees is essential. they are everything.
