mr. clyburn? mr. clyburn: i always say, the proof is in the pudding. we just saw in the south carolina primary last week, i saw all the headlines going into that primary. but i also spent a lot of time on the campuses. i have eight hbcu's in south carolina, seven of them are in my district. i'm a graduate of one. and it's kind of interesting, but the highest percentage that joe biden got in south carolina was in the county with two hbcu's and he got 98% of the vote in that county. and when i talk to those young people, they are all in for joe biden. and i keep hearing that he's lost the youth vote. i keep hearing he's lost the black vote. south carolina increased black participation in their primary by 30% and joe biden came out of it with 96% of the vote. the proof is in the pudding. i know most of these headlines come from those people who are pretty proficient at tweeting and whatever else you do. but voters show up for joe biden. reporter: quick follow-up on that question. as far as -- mr. aguilar: this one's going to be a hard one so i'm going to

congressman clyburn, thanks so much for being with us. esther clyburn -- mr.thanks for having me. geoff: i know you said the president enjoys strong support, but a december associated press poll found 50% of black adults say they approve a president biden, but that is compared with 86% who said the same thing back in july of 2021. what do you think accounts for that slip in support? mr. clyburn: well, i don't think there's been a big slip in support. i think that people express themselves at the time they are asked the question. back at the time this poll was taking place, i was asking questions about people who believed what they were seeing on social media. the best example i know is on student loan debt relief. joe biden had promised that, and that was a big, big deal in the african-american community. and when he offered his programs to reduce or eliminate that debt, he got sued, and that lawsuit was lost. and everybody focused on the fact that he lost the lawsuit. nobody focused on the fact that there were four other categories that he was working on, whi
