also, nassau county long island.4 points and then they elected a republican in 2022. there are also two other districts in eastern long island that will republican held that were thought to be competitive republicans ended up winning them very comfortably. all four of these long island districts and it up going republican. democrats that they have a shot at all of them. then you had in there were two other districts in new york state, one where sean patrick maloney, who is the shoe chair of the democratic congressional campaign committee, the national committee that organizes the house democratic campaign effort, he lost his own district. democrats never saw that coming. and there is one more seat in the syracuse area. republican, hildebran publican was not running again. the democrats thought they could pick it up and they lost their. although seats i just described, if the democrats had won five of those in 2022 they overperformed almost everywhere else nationally. they would have held the house of representatives

there was a trend in queens and nassau that was identical between 2020 and 2022.s is 2020. and on the nasa side at the district, in 2020, two republicans won it by ten points, and intend the 20, joe biden won it by five points. so, what is that, that was a swing, ten for the republicans to fight for the democrats, a swing of 15 points. 15 for the democrats, four for the democrats, a swing of 15 points. there was a uniform swing in 2022 between queens and nassau county, and what we have seen tonight, as we had just established, is that queens is on track to be a 2020 style performance. a very democratic friendly performance, and if we see anything approximating a uniformed swing in nassau county, you're looking at that. that's 2020 in a sock on the, that is 22 innocent county. that's a big democratic win. that's a big republican. when the democrats right now, right now, i think i've gotten, as we have said, they have gotten everything they wanted and more in queens, and if we get indication, when we start getting substantial vote on a sauce, the waiting for, signif

joining me now is nassau county executive bruce blakeman.ce, before we go further, have the hacks been successful and have people lost money? >> well, they keep trying and trying. basically these people who come here illegally were brought over by organized crime cartels that they owe a lot of money to. if they don't want to get killed or their family to get killed, they have to repay the organized crime cartel so they're engaging in illegal activity. they're engaging in any kind of illegal activity, whether it be shoplifting, whether it be cyber crimes or whether it be burglary or robbery. we're seeing an up tick in crime from illegal aliens and it's got to stop. we have a foreign invasion at our border and obviously we have a crime wave visit. stuart: you represent thousands of people that commute into new york city on a daily basis. do they feel safe going to work here? >> no, our community is very upset with the federal policies and local policies and we're not a sanctuary county in nassau county and we have almost 1.5 million people and

about 15,000 people had voted in nassau county. i can tell you that at this particular polling location been incredibly slow same for the earlier location we were at the middle school. you can see not a lot of people in here i spoken to each of these deaths which represent a different district. each of them at around 12, 30 had seen roughly 40 voters, which is a fraction, maybe 10% of what they would usually see by the, by the hour six hours, 40 voters usually see something like 400 voters an hour during the weekday when they were having early voting. but people are paying attention and coming out from this race because they can't, they can't avoid it. there's been a massive amount of spending on ads that blanketed the airwaves mostly talking about immigration when it comes to mahsa pilip hitting tom suozzi saying he's soft on the border. suozzi trying to paint a mazi pilip is someone whose views aren't well known. we caught up with two voters who just cast their ballots. take a listen to what they said >> i voted for tom suozzi, n

this is the nassau county. long island portion. it's gonna be about 80% vote is gonna come out of the nassau county classic suburbia, a lot of new york commuters here, bedroom communities. the other 20% or so is going to come from the new york city portion of the district, the far edges of queens. kind of suburban queens, if you will. that sort of the composition of the district here. you take a look, you are mentioning that voting history in 2022, this was the santos victory over the democrat. it was about a seven-point victory, seven and a half point victory, and under the same lines, these were redrawn lines, as you mentioned, after 2020, after these same lines, biden would have won this district by eight points. so you have a burden eight margin under these lines to a santos was seven and a half margin. that was a swing between 2020 and 2022. what changed redistricting was this portion of the district's new. it's more blue collar. it's like massapequa. levittown is down on the bottom, southern portion of the district. it's more

there are a ton of college educated democratic leaning suburbanites in nassau county, especially along the north shore there. republicans are hoping that in the general election, when it is going to be a bigger and more expensive electorate, that is going to bring out more voters disproportionately for them than they're getting in special elections. but i think at the bottom line here is the democrats are demonstrating in these special elections that a big part of their base is just extremely off the charts motivated, no question they're going to be out there to vote in november. the question mark is for republicans. because they don't in these special elections, they have not demonstrated a base comparable to the democrats in terms of turnout and energy and the question for republicans is if they can find those less engaged voters, and actually get them to turn out in november, to offset what we're seeing in a race like this. >> so, interesting, it is all by eight points, one way or another, and i'm just wondering if you think that what happened in 2022 there with santos and his eight

we have the numbers from new york city in nassau county, 80,000 or so early votes at 13,000 of those vote by mail. and so that's why they think it's a little slow right now. i was able to speak to two voters just a short while ago. they were both interesting voters for maasie polyp, that's the republican challenger to tom suozzi, who is the former omar three-term congressman from this area. both of these older voters were were former suozzi voters. they said they voted for him and supported him for him for some time. but this time around there voting for maasie pillow because their main issue is immigration, is the migrant crisis. this district encompasses parts of nassau county here on long island, and parts of queens, which is part of new york city. all of these areas have i've been impacted by the migrant crisis. and so that was their main issue. we will wait and see whether turnout picks up today. but again, this is a very, very close what closely watched race, because it could be a bellwether for how the national elections will go. in 20, in november of this year. >> yeah, and c

demonstrated throughout his entire career and that is the record and vision that he is presenting to nassau county and queens in advance of tuesday. and we put it in their hands. as always, trust the judgment of the voters and let's see what happens in the aftermath of the election as to what it all means. this, this, this district is encompass parts of nassau county and parts of queens, which is part of new york city and it's the kind of suburban district that many are looking into to decide the election in 2024 for the white house and for congress. and so this has been kind of a nationalized race, lots of spending every single ad that maasie polyps campaign has run has been attacking tom suozzi on immigration, on this idea that he's for open borders. suozzi for his part, has tried to attack felkel for her stance on abortion or saying that her stance on these issues aren't very isn't very clear and that if you vote for a pilip, you may get another george santos, which is the ousted congressman. they're trying to replace. but the important thing here, dana, is that this this district for a good 30 years, it was leaning democrat in the last few years. that's changed quite a bit. joe biden won this race, a beat trump by about eight points by eight points in 2020. and george santos lost to tom suozzi. bye by double digits in 2020. but just two years later santos was able to beat his democrat

republicans, you know, once upon a time had one of the most feared machines in the country in nassau county a suburban political machine. that machine has regained a lot of its power in the last few years. republicans won back the county executive's office. they won back the county legislature that they have here. they won control of that, so republicans felt that there was a lot of momentum behind their party and their candidate just because of the general political climate on long island and suozzi, as a democrat, running against that was able to pull off a margin here. again, this is a margin very similar to what joe biden got in this district in 2020. so democrats winning it by eight in '20 they did, losing by eight in '22 and now winning it back by eight points in 2024. certainly given the climate on long island and the suburbs of new york city, they hope this is a model they can export nationally. >> ryan, the gop just went from having a minuscule majority to razor thin there in the house. how soon will suozzi be seated, and how does this affect anything house republicans want

and this, this district makes up part pardon nassau county, and part of queens. the big issues here, immigration, the economy, inflation abortion i spoken to several voters here. all the ones who supported mazi pilip talked about pop pillow, talked about immigration. and that is something that she has spent a lot of time and money talking about all of the ads she put out dealt with immigration, attacking suozzi as soft on the border voters telling me that masih pilip is willing to be tough on the border to close the border, tom suozzi isn't suozzi for his part, has been trying to paint mazi pilip as kind of an unknown. maybe someone like santos who might have ethics issues he does not have as much name recognition, having served as a county legislator for just about two years, suozzi was mayor of glencoe of where i am here, nassau county executive and served in congress for three terms. but as you mentioned, while joe biden beat donald trump by eight points in 2020, in 2022, george santos, the man they're replacing, was able to beat him his democratic opponent by
