johnson somewhat more so than pat nixon. jackie kennedy politics. she whatd she called the backboe and the cigar smoke so she let mrs. johnson to a bunch of campaigning for her in the 1960 campaign but she was pregnant and could actually do a lot of the campaigning. so there were similarities there in terms of style. i have always mentioned that and there is programs in the course first ladies always followed the passion so they were different in their programs. jackie kennedy on the restoration in lady bird johnson civil rights early childhood education and of course the environment and pat nixon volunteered as personal ambassador but very interestingly all three were very similar in that they championed white house restoration. they all three made very important contributions in the white house restoration and i'm sure the book will further eliminate the very significant contribution aids -- eliminate the very significant and caring about the white house tour being available to disabled people and bringing in a lot of antique furniture. mrs. johns

so can you say tell us something about pat moynihan, about nixon, and about this legislation? thank you, frank. and me. if i could go to the beginning and i have a picture from west branch, iowa, in 1937, which was given to me by the herbert hoover presidential library. and if you can throw that one up of the family the richard nixon family, 1937, they're driving home from north carolina, where he had just completed law school. duke and you'll see over on your far right with the hat on. hannah his mother and just sort of toward the middle from her a very elderly woman, elmira richard nixon's grandmother. i don't think this photo is really out in the it's not downstairs. let's put it that way. and i can i must tell you that there was an utterly profound impact on nixon of the women in his family, his mother and his grandmother. the grandmother millhouse side were folks in the underground railway helping slaves running away from the south during the war and his mother was was a devout quaker and that led to a couple of things more perhaps nixon's conservative style. but he was a
