sandhya. >> yeah. julian and ama that fire danger has been extended as the heat wave is going to continue even longer than originally expected yesterday. so let's talk about what's happening right now. it's 107 degrees in concord. a scorcher in livermore, 105 degrees. you will notice 100 in fremont, 99 in san jose. current temperatures 104 in santa rosa and fairfield. we do have that excessive heat warning that has been extended until next tuesday at 11 p.m. the heat advisory until that time period as well shaded in orange there except for san francisco that will expire thursday evening. now we take a look at the fire conditions up north of calistoga, and it is still hot and dry and gusty, which is precisely why the red flag warning has also been extended until friday morning for the north and east bay hills and the santa cruz mountains. combination of gusty winds, low humidity and dry vegetation is keeping that fire danger elevated moderate to high. this evening we go into tomorrow morning an

to break it all down is abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel. hi, sandhya. hi there. yeah, ama, right now we're in a temporary break, but we're going to see another round of heat developing here. and that's why those advisories were extended. so let's talk about what it looks like. this is welcome relief from our mount tam cam. the marine layer showing up. this is the second day where we've seen temperatures going down. most areas are running cooler right now by four degrees in hayward and novato. as you will notice, the onshore breezes have certainly picked up, gusting to 35 at oakland. that's going to help to continue to carry the marine layer along. so when you look at those temperatures right now, this is what you would expect to see. i mean, temperatures are still a few degrees above average by 5 to 10 degrees in some areas. but 90s inland, 60s along the coastline. that is all going to change middle of this week. so the heat advisories for the inland valleys and mountains extended until 8 p.m. friday for the san francisco bay shoreline, carquinez strait and delta

thank you so much, sandhya. let's talk about some of the impact of the fire danger here in the south bay. one firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion while battling this fire outside of the goodwill of silicon valley headquarters and donation center sky seven, high above the scene on north seventh street in san jose. shortly after it started around 2 p.m. we're told several trucks, boxes of books and wooden pallets all burned here. the fire appears to have spread to some grass nearby. thankfully, no structures are threatened at this time, and in mariposa county, the sheriff's office there has lifted some of the evacuation orders for the french fire burning outside of yosemite national park. crews built a fire line around the eastern side of mariposa to protect the town from flames. more than 900 acres have burned since the fire started yesterday evening. so far, it's about 20% contained. the cause of that fire is still under investigation. >> in butte county, near oroville. >> all evacuation orders have been

all right, sandhya, thank you so much. we'll check back the lake fire in santa barbara county has ballooned to the largest wildfire in california right now. >> it exploded in size over the weekend, burning more than 20,000 acres in the los padres national forest off 101. the fire is threatening homes and other property, including neverland ranch, formerly owned by the late michael jackson. flames reached the property's perimeter today and new evacuation orders have been issued. containment is at just 8. a group of hikers is safe after being unaccounted for in the mountains west of lake tahoe, where a wildfire is burning. the placer county sheriff's office located the hikers via helicopter along the palisades creek trail this morning. two members of the falcon crew dropped in and then led the group of 13 to hike out the latest mapping shows the royal fire has burned 154 acres since it started yesterday. it's in the tahoe national forest near soda springs and the sugar bowl ski area. there is no containment. good news on the

thanks, sandhya. all right.ate it. >> well, july, as we know, is always the hottest month in the bay area, but this july. yeah, we asked climate experts a but how is climate change impacting the extreme weather that's hitting the bay area right now and won't leave us any time soon? abc seven news reporter anser hassan takes a look. summer is always hot, but experts say there's something important to understand about what's different about this current heat wave hitting the bay area. >> temperatures that you're about to experience. this week and maybe next week in california, would have been made virtually impossible without human induced climate change. >> shel winkley is a meteorologist and the weather and climate engagement specialist at climate central, a nonprofit that studies climate science. he says july is always the hottest month of the year in the bay area, but the intensity and the duration of these heat events are signs of climate change. >> i think the excessive length of this is the biggest teller,

sandhya. >> yeah, julian and ama this summer. swelter did set records. let me show them to you right now. 110 degrees today in livermore. 100 in san rafael. both new records for today, but it was pretty hot even in concord. 107 105. in santa rosa, 101 degrees in san jose. we have that excessive heat warning for inland areas and the bay shoreline under a heat advisory. both got extended until 11 p.m. next wednesday as the risk of heat related illnesses will remain elevated tomorrow. temperatures are going to dial back a little bit, but we're still going to be in the triple digits inland. mid one hundreds. there you will notice 60s right along the coastline a lot like today. and as we take a look at our heat risk, inland areas will be in the major to extreme heat risk. so definitely take it easy. stay hydrated and find a way to beat the heat. we also have a red flag warning that it got extended until 9 p.m. saturday night. the concern here is critically dry fuels. we've got gusty winds, not terribly strong, but you combine that with the low humidity and th

meteorologist sandhya patel is back.dhya so nice to hear it's going to cool off. >> it is indeed. and today temperatures started to drop down. we're going to keep that going as we hit the weekend. let me show you some live pictures right now from our tower cameras, and you will notice one thing is in common, which is the marine layer. it's about 1300ft deep, and it's certainly making for some murky views. here's a look at what you can expect. today's high temperatures compared to tomorrow. santa rosa. you're going to drop by 13 degrees from 99 to 86. you'll notice it when you're 104, in concord, and you're coming down to 92 degrees. so 12 degrees cooler. san francisco, oakland, only a couple of degrees, san jose from 92 to 89, 3 degrees drop. and the reason for this is high pressure is going to start to shift off to the east. this area of low pressure is beginning to take over, which is what is drawing in our cooler air. i do want to show you some warnings that are up for around the state. the sierra red flag warning goi

so sandhya, what's finally going to change around here? >> those temperatures are going to come down, believe it or not. julian and dan, let's take a look at the high temperatures for today. they didn't come down that's for sure. it got up to 111 today at the livermore co-op site, which tied the record set back in 1961. the official livermore airport reading was 109. as you see there, 111 in fairfield. yeah, it was a scorcher. 108 in concord, 101 santa rosa, napa, 74 in the city, 84 in oakland, 99. in san jose, sitting pretty half moon bay, a mild 62 degree day. excessive heat warnings for the far inland valleys continues. the rest of the region, other than the coast and the city, under a heat advisory. this is in effect until 8 p.m. tomorrow. solano county they extended the heat advisory until 9 p.m. saturday, so there's still an increased risk of heat related illnesses. if you are going to step out tonight. 7:00 still 90s and one hundreds in our inland valleys, you will notice those temperatures not coming down very fast away from the co

let's get to sandhya patel. sandhya? >> yeah. and we're going to keep it going. ama and dan.s take a look at air quality right now. and you will notice mostly green, which is good air quality over the next couple of days we'll still have a refreshing breeze. we're expecting good air quality for most of the bay area coast and central bay. moderate but still safe to get outside as we look at live doppler seven, things are pretty stable here. locally, the marine layer will expand overnight and tomorrow afternoon it'll clear back for most areas. low 60s coast side to the mid 80s inland about where you should be for this time of year. if you're missing the heat, we'll bring it back. it starts to warm up on wednesday. low 90s inland. by the time we head into thursday we have mid 90s. but don't worry, it's not for everyone. the coast will still remain comforted by the marine influence. so here's your accuweather seven day forecast. and those temperatures will be about where they should be tomorrow. the warming trend starts midweek, continues through the end of the workweek, and then

and here with the weekend forecast is sandhya patel. yeah. >> and larry and dan, those temperatures are going to be trending lower, the humidity higher, which helps from the fire weather perspective obviously fuels are really dry though following this prolonged heat wave that we've had. so let's talk about what's happening. high pressure is shifting east, which is why the heat eased today. but we certainly are seeing this area of low pressure off the california coast that's going to continue the cooling trend. the flow around that high is drying up the monsoon moisture. so thunderstorms have been firing up in the sierra expecting more of that, which is why the red flag warnings are going for the sierra. and we have fire weather watches for parts of northern and southern california. the concern is there's possibility of dry lightning, and that could spark some new fires. so we have a slight chance here between 5 to 10. but right now it's looking like a better possibility. east and north and south of us on live doppler seven. we certainly
