finally, many of the sfmta vision zero quick build projects have been well received. can you talk about the evans street project? >> one of the things we did during covid was dramatically expand the rate of what we call quick build projects, which are fast-moving projects using simple and cheap materials in order to redesign streets and test out new ideas and see how they work, as well as get a lot of feedback from community before moving into a larger capital project that converts all of that plastic stuff into concrete and trees and, you know, curb extensions. what we have been finding is that our quick build safety projects are able to cut severe injury and fatalities between 25 and 75%, depending upon the location on the techniques that we use. so we are targeting streets that have the highest rate of traffic crashes, particularly injury crashes and fatalities. we focused on evans, which is really important connector for all modes of transportation between the bayview and the central neighborhoods of san francisco. also a street with a terrible track record of sev

some background for you, sfmta implemented a no turn on red policy at 50 intersections throughout the tenderloin after supervisor haney urged them to do that in 2021. sfmta later studied the tenderloin at those intersections and found that 92 percent of drivers complied with the no turn on red policy despite as you probably know, traffic enforcement being at historic lows in san francisco, so a common thought is no one will follow the rules because the laws are not being enforced, but sfmta data backs that up. it also found that close calls or near miss decrease by 80 percent as a result of turn on red policy or signs installed there and finally, cars blocking intersections or cross walks trying to make a turn decreased by 72 percent. really phenomenal results from that instillation in the tenderloin so this is a effort to expand that throughout the city. there are studies throughout the past decades that show one side allowing turn on red increasing crashes, collisions, injury and death and the other side when no turn on red policies are implemented crashing collisions, injuries decr

i'm kimberly burris with sfmta. so. we can't have a robust conversation about budgets and transit fares without looking at fare compliance. right um, and so there there is of course, is a cost to providing service. and so it's imperative that all of our customers pay their fair share. um, so what i'd like to do is to start, um, from the same level of understanding when we talk about fare compliance, we're looking at it from multiple vantage points, because there are several elements that go into, um, whether our customers are able to abide by our fare policy. um, and so we look at it from things like what diana just went over policy and products. um is our fares accessible. um, what a key element is actually how people pay their fare, because it's the way that people pay their fare that kind of leads into this wider spread and belief that people aren't paying their fair, and that then kind of ducktales into, um, a culture of noncompliance and paying the fare. and so we need to look at that. we also need to look at educa
