four sfpd officers were involved in the crash taken to the hospital. we are told they're expected to be okay. police say soon after that crash, police were able to track down those suspects on third street and arrest them. we are awaiting confirmation on how many people were arrested. this is all in connection with that burglary and subsequent killing of oakland police officer tuan le. >>> we are learning more about the officer. shot and killed responding to a burglary call at an oakland cannabis dispensary at ninth and embar embarcadero. he was in plain clothes in an unmarked car. one of the suspects fired several shots at his car hitting him. le later died from his injuries at the hospital. law enforcement could be seen lining 14th street in tribute to le as his body was moved from the hospital to the alameda county sheriffs oft under full police escort. the 36-year-old is survived by his wife and clearly leaves behind a lasting impact on the community he was dedicated to keeping safer. >>> our other top story this morning continues to be the weather

in the past six months, sfpd has arrested nearly 700 people for selling drugs and arrested nearly 800 people for open-air drug use. critics say the city is trying to arrest its way out of a problem, out of the addiction issue, instead of focusing on lasting treatment solutions. department of health figures -- public health figures show that only a handful of those arrested for drug use have actually taken advantage of drug treatment. the police chief says as the crackdown continues, he hopes that those numbers will change. >> i hate to say it, that has never worked and won't work here. >> here's what i would say. give us a better solution, and we'll try to implement it. but in the meantime, we can't just let people be out in the streets using drugs. hopefully if we do this long enough, i do -- and i've heard, and i do think we'll continue to hear anecdotal stories of people that got help because they got arrested. >> a lot of people involved with this. the police department, the mayor's office, the district attorney, and the court system. it appears that the court system, city leaders
