shawn chitnis is live near the scene. this was last night in the news cycle a little bit after 7:00. what's the update? >> reporter: good morning. we are at the airport. we can see one of the coastguard helicopters that may have been part of this search. we understand it did start around 7:00 in the evening when they were first getting the calls and trying to figure out what was happening here. this was because someone spotted a two engine plane two miles from the airport. we can see in the video that there was a search team looking for the plane in the water with challenging conditions because of tides and it was dark at the hour. they did locate the plane about an hour in but were trying to find anyone on board. emergency response teams were on site on the ground to assist nihar they could. the initial call said a small two propeller plane flying erratically and those reporting said they thought they heard the engine sputter out before losing sight of the plane. we still don't know who was on the plane and how many peop

shawn chitnis is live in orinda this morning to talk about the incident and the response from passengers. are you seeing a lot of people out? >> reporter: in the 9:00 a.m. our we are truly seeing what feels like a normal start to the day with a full parking lot and that is part of the experience people want as they return to work from the holiday. we know they were busy working over the night to make sure they could have the normal service of the yellow line before 5:00 a.m. those arriving today should not have to notice anything even though we are only half a mile away from where the derailment happened. as for the investigation, it continues this morning, a day after all this happened. no clear understanding of what happened yet but we have more information this morning, knowing this was the second car of an eight car train that came off the tracks in a section of the rail where trains can move from one truck to the other. the operations control center can usually move the tracks remotely but was not able to do so yesterday and while that is not unusual it is part of the investigation.
