thanks, spencer. very much.ow, spencer, if you would stand by for just a moment, we're going to check back in with you for details on the fire in butte and tehama counties and the conditions there in just a couple of minutes. >> for now, though, here is the latest on the park fire, which broke out wednesday. it has exploded in size and is now the 20th biggest wildfire recorded in california state history so far. more than 178,000 acres have burned. already 134 structures have been destroyed, and 4200 structures are still threatened, which means evacuation orders are still in effect. abc news reporter kayna whitworth is near the fire lines with the latest dan and ama. >> what you can see right there. oh, that tree is just topping off in flames here. it's crowning. that's a major concern because the wind can then throw those flames further and create spot fires. so not only are firefighters battling the flames here, but they're battling triple digit heats as well. and dan and ama, i'm told this fire is burning agg

spencer. >> all right. we are talking about that breaking news again. this one in bay point. this is the evora fire which is burning close to the highway four area where there are now evacuations for residents in parts of concord and bay point. just north of highway four. yeah. >> i want to get an update now from captain christopher toller with contra costa fire on the one that we're talking about burning at bay point. captain, first of all, thanks for joining us. really appreciate your time. i know you just arrived at the scene, so it's probably a little bit hectic, but what is the situation as you know it to this point? >> at this point, we got initial reports of 120 acre fire uh- here in bay point between bay point and concord off of Évora road, it's pretty dynamic situation right now. the fire's moving pretty, pretty fast because the winds have picked up this late in the afternoon. but we have cal fire, along with all the, contra costa county fire crews on scene, we do have an area in bay point that we

spencer. >> yeah, that is true. the central valley and all up and down the areas where wildfires are burning right now. but here in the bay area, we have the advantage of getting a little bit of cooling at night because of the marine layer advancing across the bay and bringing us drizzle to the coast and out over the bay, and some of it even lingers into the mid morning hours, which is kind of refreshing, actually. but that doesn't mean we're not going to have a warm up overnight. low temperatures in the pretty normal zone for this time of the year, mid to upper 50s, but the daytime highs will be rising over the next few days. tomorrow's highs low 60s at the coast, mid to upper 70s around the bay. shoreline. mid to upper 90s inland. and as you look at the accuweather seven day forecast, that's going to be our pattern going into at least the middle of next week. in fact, it looks like the peak of the heating, or at least the sustained uh- peak will be early next week as high temperatures inland will range from 96 to

spencer christian joins me now to break that all down. but there are some concerns going forward. >> oh major concerns j.r. as you mentioned we have an excessive heat warning in effect now for virtually the entire bay area upgraded from or raised in severity level from an advisory yesterday. so here's the map. you can see all those areas shaded in that darker color there. that's the excessive heat warning for the entire bay area. the areas in yellow which would include the bay shoreline and santa cruz area. that's an advisory. but still, for all of these areas, the serious conditions, this kind of heat raises significantly the risk of heat related illnesses. you don't have to spend a lot of time outdoors for the heat to have a horrible effect on your health. now, here's a look at projected high temperatures over the next few days for tuesday. we're talking about numerous locations inland all around the bay area between 102 and 112 degrees, then on wednesday, pretty much the same range, about 102 to 110. this heat wave isn't going to break

spencer. that's right. >> it certainly is good news that the forward progress of the fire has been stopped because the three main fire weather factors are at play here and are likely present a challenge to the to the firefighting effort. so the temperature right now is 97 degrees. it is obviously hot relative humidity dangerously low, under 20%. right now the current reading is 17%. it's likely to increase a little bit going into the evening hours, but not significantly. wind has been pretty much steady out of the west at about ten miles per hour, but there have been occasional gusts up around 20mph. and i should remind you that when a fire is growing like this, a massive fire, it generates its own gusts near closer to the fire. so even though at the reporting station, the gusts may be only 20mph, they're likely to be much stronger and varying in the direction of the winds, which of course is also challenging for the firefighters. but right now, we see low humidity, hot air and gusty wind. and

spencer christian joins us now.ou've got dragonflies and you don't have mosquitoes, so that's true. you'd be mosquito free with the large track and i'll take the dragonflies over the mosquitoes any day. >> yes. let's take a look at what's happening with our weather. overnight is going to be pretty interesting. we'll have a rebuilding marine layer and lots of patches of drizzle. check this out for four. a m and 5 a.m. and 6 a.m, and up until about 10 a.m. we're going to have lots of drizzle. not only along the coastline, but also out over the bay at locally some land areas. overnight, low temperatures will be mainly in the mid to upper 50s. highs tomorrow mid afternoon. sunny inland but still a little gray near the coast of bay. highs will range from low 60s at the coast to low 70s around the bay to low and mid 80s inland. and here's the accuweather seven day forecast. gradual warming i talked about continues into the middle of the week. but then thursday, friday we'll see some mid 90s inland, mid 70s around the bay.

thank you spencer. well, our sweltering temperatures are blamed for a fish kill at a lake in fremont. the city tells abc seven news that 500 to 1000 fish have died in central park's lake elizabet. crews began cleaning up the fish shortly after they were discovered yesterday. fremont officials say the recent heat is lowering oxygen levels in the water, as well as the overall water level. the city is trying to raise the water level to help protect the surviving fish there. >> p-g-and-e's blames the weather for some isolated power outages today in the bay area. here's a live look at p-g-and-e's outage map with the areas in orange experiencing the highest number of interruptions right now. at one point, more than 2000 customers lost power in oakland due to the weather. p-g-and-e's says planned shutoffs are likely tomorrow in parts of monterey and san benito counties. excuse me? to help prevent those wildfires as we weather this heat wave, we know that 18 wildfires are currently burning right now across cali

. >> let's check in with spencer christian with the latest update. spencer. okay. >> christine and larry, we are still in the grips of this heat wave, although we got a little bit of a break today and we'll have a break tomorrow as well, because the marine layer, the cooling marine layer returned to the coastline overnight, extended, expanded across the bay and locally inland. it hung around long enough this morning to keep temperatures in our inland areas from rising to. the excessive levels we saw last week and into the weekend. so as we look at current temperatures, you can see that, right? you know, this keyboard freezes up from time to time. so bear with me for a second, folks, while i do the little trick that has to make it work. nothing seems to make it work. oh, here we go, so right now we're looking at temperature readings in the low to mid 90s and most of our inland areas where just a couple of days ago we saw 108 to 110 degrees. we see 60s and 70s around the bay shoreline, where we saw 80s and low 90s recently. and as we look ahead once again, the

let's get a look at the conditions with abc seven weather anchor spencer christian spencer okay, dan.>> and we do have a lot to keep up with tonight with all these fires developing, i'm going to start with the what the point fire, which we started the program with temperature right now is 59 degrees in bay point. in that area of the fire, the relative humidity has really risen quite a bit, up to 75%. so those factors are encouraging, especially the relative humidity, because the dryness earlier was of course contributing to the spread of the fire. but the winds are still strong and they're getting stronger. they're the sustained winds are out of the south at 16mph with gusts to 28mph. so obviously those winds are making it a bit challenging for the firefighters who are working so furiously to extinguish this fire and control this fire. now let's move along to the park fire, which we just showed you a satellite image. but mine right now is apparently not capturing the smoke. let's see if we can get this going here. we say, i don't know if it has to do with the hour of the night or not,

spencer. >> all right, dan. and i'm not a heat wave, but it's a wave of heat for two days. if it were three days or more, it would be a heat wave. and there is one coming our way. but right now we're looking at current temperatures across the bay area. you can see we have lots of low to mid and even mid to upper 90s still in our inland area. so it has been a hot day and it will be even hotter tomorrow. so our heat advisory remains in effect until 11:00 tomorrow night. that's for virtually all of the bay area away from the coast line and away from the bay shoreline. under these excessively hot conditions, of course, there's an increased risk of heat related illnesses. now, we also have an air quality advisory in effect through tomorrow because of the effect of wildfire smoke from the northern california wildfires. so air quality tomorrow will be only moderate across the board. but on saturday, we expect some modest improvement in the air quality. meanwhile, tomorrow is going to be an even hotte

let's talk to spencer more about that. spencer. >> yeah.bout beryl is that it was a category five hurricane at one time in the caribbean, and after making landfall and pounding areas like jamaica, it weakened to tropical storm intensity. but then it reformed or re-intensified in the gulf of mexico. that's not unheard of for a storm to do that, but we'll see that happening more frequently now that the water is all around. the globe are warming now, let's take a look at our heat alerts here in the bay area. starting tomorrow morning at 8:00, at 11:00 and into friday evening, 8 p.m, we will have a heat advisory in effect for all of our areas near the coast and bay, and even reaching into some inland areas and in excessive excessive heat warning for most of our inland areas. so the heat is returning. but first, we get this refreshing break overnight with a low temperatures mainly in the mid to upper 50s, and we'll feel a little bit of that marine influence. but then tomorrow look for triple digit temperatures in our inland areas once again, any

let's bring in abc seven news weather anchor spencer christian. >> spencer.the wind seems obviously to be a factor today. blowing pretty strongly, isn't it? that's true. >> dan, right now the wind is the most significant factor, probably because some of the other factors are changing just a little bit. so earlier we had temperatures up around or even above 90 degrees. it's down to 84 degrees right now relative humidity is coming up from a low of about 12% to 31%. now we typically see an increase in humidity in the evening hours. but of course, this is not a significant enough increase to reduce the fire danger winds out of the southwest. the steady winds at 15mph. but the gusts are at or above 25mph. so you can see it's still dangerously low. relative humidity and strong, gusty winds that are even gustier now than they were in the previous hour. so that's still an issue and i'll continue watching it and reporting any changes in the conditions. dan and ama okay, spencer, thanks very much. >> i just want to update that fire now near bay point. now it is about 2

let's bring in abc seven news weather anchor spencer christian now because a spencer we know how farnd how quickly the smoke can travel. what's the outlook here tonight. >> well dan, the smoke has been generally being carried off to the northeast up into the northern sierra by the winds out of the south southeast. >> here's a satellite image that until recently was capturing the smoke image. you can still see the fire north of chico there. see susanville off to the east northeast of chico. that's right in the path of the smoke that's been traveling into the north in a northeasterly direction into the northern sierra. now there has been some concern about whether smoke from that fire might reach its way into the bay area and affect our air quality. that is not the case, and not likely to be the case because we are to the southwest of that fire and its smoke direction. so right now we have moderate to good air quality. but of course people who are in the path of that smoke moving towards the northern sierra may in fact experience some declining air quality. i'll have our full accuweath

we check in now with abc seven news weather anchor spencer, christian and spencer. i know some folks saw the fog. they got concerned. but you're telling us we should be good for those fireworks shows in san francisco? >> we should be. julian the fog is very shallow at the moment. looks like the heat wave, the heat and the hot air are compressing it, so it should not interfere. the way things look right now with the viewing conditions for the fireworks later this evening. right now, though, we're looking at heat that is slow to retreat. current temperature readings are still in the one hundreds, and many of our inland areas like livermore and antioch. 99 at fairfield and calistoga, that's almost 100 107 at clear lake, 103 at cloverdale. so it's still hot out there in our inland areas. but let's take a look at our going into next week. the tips for staying safe. drink plenty of fluids, wear lightweight clothing and take breaks in the shade. all those things can help and as the red flag warning for high fire danger remains in effect, here are some things to do to stay

dan. >> okay, spencer, thanks very much. in lake county, cal fire says forward progress has been stopped on a wildfire in the upper lake area. a crews are now working to mop up and build containment lines in the steep and rugged terrain there. the 150 acre grass fire had prompted an evacuation warning near manzanita circle after it sparked this afternoon. officials say firefighters will remain on the scene tonight and tomorrow in sonoma county. >> a geyserville man has been arrested in connection with starting the 50 acre flora fire off chalk hill road. cal fire says the 49 year old man was seen driving his truck with no right front tire for more than four miles yesterday afternoon. they say it created sparks, causing three separate fires as the truck grinded the asphalt. the fire is 50% contained and you can track the wildfires burning across the state with an interactive map that's on our website. it also gives you an idea of fire warnings and air quality. just go to abc seven news.com/fire map. >> all right. let's move on

let's get a look at the conditions with abc seven weather anchor spencer christian spencer okay, dan.>> and we do have a lot to keep up with tonight with all these fires developing, i'm going to start with the what the point fire, which we started the program with temperature right now is 59 degrees in bay point. in that area of the fire, the relative humidity has really risen quite a bit, up to 75%. so those factors are encouraging, especially the relative humidity, because the dryness earlier was of course contributing to the spread of the fire. but the winds are still strong and they're getting stronger. they're the sustained winds are out of the south at 16mph with gusts to 28mph. so obviously those winds are making it a bit challenging for the firefighters who are working so furiously to extinguish this fire and control this fire. now let's move along to the park fire, which we just showed you a satellite image. but mine right now is apparently not capturing the smoke. let's see if we can get this going here. we say, i don't know if it has to do with the hour of the night or not,

spencer. let's talk about the impact now in the east bay, the city of antioch has canceled its 4th of july parade because of this extreme heat. we're talking about. abc seven news reporter ryan curry spoke with the mayor, who says the weather there is dangerous. reporter. >> there's a reason this playground is abandoned on a sunny day. it's too hot outside for children to use it. temperatures in the east bay are in the triple digits for a second day, and the heat will continue for another week, forcing the city of antioch to cancel its 4th of july parade. >> it's too hot and it's dangerous, and the last thing we're going to do is put, people's, health in jeopardy. >> we're here in antioch and look at the temperature gauge already. it's past 100 degrees, and conditions on thursday will be about the same. the mayor says asking people to be outside in the middle of the day was just not smart to have people out at such dangerous temperatures would be foolish of the city. >> and then i've put out a

spencer christian, our weather anchor, joins me now and spencer, give us a look at what we can expectthe 24 hours ahead. >> okay, julian, i'll do just that. first, we'll look at how hot it still is. i want to show you current temperature readings right now. it's 82 degrees right now in brentwood. we have upper 70s that cloverdale saint helena, uh, livermore, danville, so many of our inland areas are in the mid to upper 70s. still at this hour of the night. here's what we can expect tomorrow. here's your day planner early tomorrow morning. they'll be just a little bit of coastal fog hanging around it will be very thin, mainly sunny skies, temperatures in the mid to upper 60s from the bay to inland. by noon it will be heating up mid 90s inland. low 80s around the bay shoreline. mid 60s on the coast 4:00 in the afternoon, usually close to our peak of heating 104. in the hottest inland areas, nearly 90 around the bay. mid 60s on the coast and finally 7 p.m. still hot inland, mid 90s, but beginning to cool down elsewhere. will it cool down at all over the next few days? i'll answer that in
