evacuations are in effect for part of tracey. the fire has jumped 580, which is shut down between highway 205 to i-5. this all started around 230 this afternoon. cal fire doesn't know what started the fire. we do know two firefighters were hurt, but as cal fire told us just minutes ago, live here during our newscast, they're expected to be okay. cal fire says it's not clear if structures have burned. strong winds, though, are making this firefight incredibly tough. anthony flores is going to be joining us shortly. right now we want to get with rob mayeda to see what's going on weather wise. it's impacting that fire. yeah. we got temperatures that are relatively cool this weekend, but you can see the dry conditions coupled with winds of 20 to 40mph. that is the top concern for the fire. they're burning off to the east along 580 right now. 68 degrees humidity 44. but of course the fire of that size along the fire front itself, much drier conditions. but the wind still gusts up to almost 30mph. now, this same corridor, which is typi

we had the one tracey. we had this one. a lot of these wind conditions are fueling a lot of these embers being moved around. and now we have the heat coming in. what kind of a situation are we going to find ourselves in the next couple of days? well, thankfully tomorrow we're not expecting a rapid increase in the wind. we actually should see the wind calming down for a few locations, but we'll still have the heat and also the low humidity here across the bay area. let me start it off with a check here of the fire. we've been covering all day long in our breaking news, and that's the redwood city structure fire that was burning for hours on end, the wind making it really challenging out here for firefighters, they have the upper hand. they've got control of this, but there still is some smoke kind of moving around redwood city right now that you need to be cautious of, especially if you can smell it. you still may need to keep those windows and doors shut with some air quality alerts that still may be in place in your neighb

there was that 14,000 acre corral fire in nearby tracey a week, and a half ago, a 44 acre wildfire this past saturday on the western edge of the altamont and in this smaller wildfire this morning, the last couple of seasons over in this general area, we haven't had really many starts, so we haven't had as many fires as we normally do this year with the rain, we've had the last two years, no fires or very little fires. last year, more rain this year. the fuels are prime for a very hot, fast, beginning of the fire season for us. yesterday, another fire broke out in the east san jose foothills, burned through a garage with a number of cars inside. one person was taken to the hospital. as you mentioned, laura, the national weather service has issued this heat advisory started a few minutes ago between 11 this morning. runs until eight tonight with temps expected to hit the upper 90s here in the east bay and other inland areas in the north and south bay. right now, cal fire is bringing its staffing to peak levels and putting more ground and air equipment on standby to be ready for the next w

managed to finally put out that nearby corral fire that fire burned more than 14,000 acres over near tracey. let's get over to meteorologist rob mayeda. we got the heat. we got some of the winds. it looks like fire seasons here. yeah, conditions now being amplified by the hot and dry weather we saw earlier this week. and speaking of grass fires, when we look at the top concerns we have for fuel moisture content right now, those grasses have really dried out. now, the heat of this week has really brought brush into the elevated state of seeing a lot less humidity out there and that fuel moisture dropping off trees and larger trees still in the moderate range. regional risk rated as average for this time of year. but as we did see in the altamont pass east bay hills, that corridor with all that dry grass, some of the strongest winds around the bay area. not a coincidence that we're seeing the most substantial fires there. and again during the day tomorrow. moving forward into tuesday, we'll continue to see things trending drier from these levels. we're seeing this weekend to it will likely ge

fire near livermore in the past two weeks, including the 14,000 acre fire that forced evacuations in tracey. cal fire is at peak levels right now for staffing, putting more ground and air equipment on standby. now, we're less than a month away from the 4th of july, and fire officials on the peninsula already working to reduce fire risk by addressing illegal fireworks. the san mateo county sheriff's office is hosting a series of buyback events this month. those who turn in fireworks will get up to $200 in cash, no questions asked. the program is entering its second year. last year, the county says they collected 400 pounds of illegal fireworks and explosives. the first event kicks off saturday at the coastside fire protection district headquarters in half moon bay. the fbi is announcing a significant drop in violent crime. the data from the fbi shows reported incidents of violent crime decreased 15% between january and march of this year, compared to the same time last year. murders in that same period dropped by 26. the report also shows crimes like robbery, assault and property crimes are
