this is vacaville officer matthew bowen, who served the city of vacaville over the last year and also served the community of concord for three and a half years before that, officer bowen's procession made its way past fire trucks and salutes to the house of worship in vacaville, where those funeral services started at 10:00. this morning. as the procession makes its way from there to the vacaville elmira cemetery, some six miles away. after the funeral, some off ramps off interstate 80 and 505 will be closed. while this service was closed to the public in person, there were people who it was open and available on the city's youtube page so that people could also participate in remembering officer bowen as a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a friend, and for what his colleagues say was a kind heart and quick wit. he grew up in fairfield and went through the napa police academy, met his wife elizabeth, while working as a busboy at a local restaurant, and all the people who have spoken so far say he loved being a father and playing with his boys. this mason and everett. words cannot

officer matthew bowen had just been had just joined vacaville police not long ago, last year. in fact, in a short time ago, we got an update on this developing story from the police chief there. chief ian schmutzer says officer bowen was just 32 years old and always had a smile on his face and a positive attitude. officer bowen was killed earlier today after being hit by a car during a traffic stop near the intersection of orange drive and leisure town, just off interstate 80. that car went on to collide with several other vehicles in the intersection. the driver has been taken into custody. chief schmutzler says the department is just heartbroken. >> matt was a magnetic personality, somebody that always had a smile on his face, a positive attitude. loved his family, dearly loved this community. and because of that, we are all brokenhearted. >> officer bowen had been with vacaville police for just over a year, as i mentioned, and previously served with the concord police department. he leaves behind a wife and two young sons. governor newsom was here in oakland today promising

officer bowen, who was 32 years old, joined vacaville pd to be closer to home and spend more time with his wife and two young sons. >> he had the world ahead of him. he was he was still fairly new in the profession and has a young family who are, you know, which makes it even more sad because they're going to grow up. and his kids probably, you know, haven't really had a chance to get to know him. so it's just really hard thinking about that. >> the driver accused of hitting officer bowen was arrested and charged with homicide and driving under the influence in concord, anser hassan. abc seven news. >> such a loss is so young. a teenager who stabbed a brentwood police officer last october will spend the next six years in juvenile hall. that is the maximum allowed by state law. on my moved by the of the incident where the then 16 year old strikes the officer. another officer quickly approaches and orders the teen to drop the knife. a short time later, a bystander tackled the young man. brentwood police say the officer has fully recovered. now, after suffering life threatening injuries.
