meteorologist vianey arana is here now. what's going on?i've used some of these e-bikes myself to get around downtown san jose. we encourage the e-bikes themselves, good for the planet, but good to get exercise in. why not? with the expansion of this, it will aid in helping our planet. so let's talk about it. by now you likely spotted the scooters and bikes that can be accessed through an app on your phone. today mayor mahan announced a partnership with lyft and the silicon valley bicycle coalition along with d.o.t. by adding an additional 21 docking stations in san jose, 2,000 bikes. this is in addition to a drop in the annual prices. you can create a membership app through the phone and usage fees across the bay area looking to provide a more affordable and, of course, eco-friendly option for residents but also for visitors to get around and visit some of the restaurants, support local businesses. here is what the mayor of san jose had to say today. >> increasing our transit solutions, especially those that help reduce our greenhouse gas

meteorologist vianey arana joins us now. vianey, a lot of people don't realize that there's an impact to the environment every time we toss our clothes into the washing machine. >> exactly. you might think, i know this sweater is made of polyester, right? but what about when you throw it in the wash cycle and it gets rinsed and mixed within that water. there's also an impact there. so from the largest to the smallest microplastics, the microplastics are considered less than 5 millimeters in length. think about the size of a sesame seed or smaller. that's considered a microplastic. a lot of times you can't even visually see it. those tiny particles can often be found in our clothing. each year it's estimated that approximately 6.5 million tons of micro fibers are released into the environment globally. up to 4.85 million pounds of microplastics enter waters from washing machines. scientists are advocating for a bill that would require washing machines to have a filter in order to prevent microplastic pollution. now, i spoke w

here to give us more insight is meteorologist vianey arana.ney, i'm wondering how california is doing on the solar front. >> it's always a good time to look where we stand, as you mentioned, and future projections. with that study, along with climate central did their own study to go in line with possible projections. as you know, anytime we see high temperatures, which is something that has been trending upwards for many years, it impacts our wildlife, our vegetation. it impacts the bleaching of our precious coral reefs. wind and solar is what we're working towards. california has taken a fantastic lead. we're one of the top in the nation when it comes to wind and solar, only second to texas. texas is a really big state. some of the projections we have going here from climate central. if you look this is solar and win percent of energy. this is the goal by 2035. in the color index we go from 50% to 90%. and just by looking at california by 2035 a lot of our energy will come from solar and wind. you can see florida, down through texas, this is

so i'm here now with meteorologist vianey arana. so, vianey, how soon could things possibly change, like, within the next 12 hours or so? >> 12 hours seems fair. you can run your necessary errands for the remainder of your tuesday. the morning commute could be a wet one. >> got it. >> take a look at the timing and what to expect as far as rain totals right now, if you look, that system is churning off in the pacific about 400 miles west of the bay area. you can see right here, and i'm going to zoom this in closer so we can take a look at what we're seeing right now. a lot is more focused to the north. notice the pockets through parts of ukiah. if i take this little bit further south through san francisco, you can see a couple areas of rain forming off the coast near san francisco. and overall still pretty dry, even down through san jose, central california, things are still dry. but the timing of this will be more critical overnight. we are expecting to see some shower activity begin to move in initially for the north bay. notice at

. >>> a lot of us did wake up to wet roads this morning, and meteorologist vianey arana joins us now. i think a lot of people are wondering, are we done with the rain for now? what's going on? >> we had periods of on and off rain. we have the cloudiness out there. we're still seeing an active radar. it does look like a lot of that is to the north and east. let's take a look at what we can expect for the rest of the evening when it comes to the rain. another thing you'll notice on radar is lightning strikes to the north. i'm going to zoom this in closer so you can get a better look at where we're seeing the active areas far north, eureka, reading. we're going to watch out for the possibility of pop up thunderstorms for the next couple of hours. we're not completely in the clear just yet as far as that goes. as far as measurable rain goes, a lot of that is going to stay to the north and east. also, we do have a winter storm advisory in effect for parts of the sierra through midnight tonight. keep that in mind if you have plans to travel out there. temperature-wise, we're in the 60s righ

meteorologist vianey arana is tracking the conditions. >> i've zoomed out how the rest of the nation is doing. this is what the conditions are currently like right now. california is doing okay, aside from some clouds. here is that system we've been mentioning this is what's going to impact potential flight delays. you ask see the combination of rain and snow expected to continue throughout the entire night. now let's talk about the timing. tuesday, november 21st, we have that system active stretching from boston through new york city, d.c., impacting through atlanta. you can still see some of those impacts extending around the entire coastline through atlanta and stretching up through boston. now, unfortunately, that means that the heaviest impacts will be as people are traveling. it does look like that system continues to move finally making a stretch off the east coast. temperatures expected to climb into the 50s. we'll keep the rain and snow chance up through boston. you can enjoy your family and friends under a much calmer weather pattern extending into the 50s for the east coas
