[ inaudible [ inaudible ] somehow use of force depends on the monitoring of the demanding authority. >> wayne hay is live outside the prime minister's office in bangkok. what is happening now? >> well, the situation is very fluid. we are still seeing the anti-government protesters in groups trying their luck, moving towards the outside of government house to where the police have their barricades located. the police are responding with many rounds of tear gas and water canon and using what appears to be a flash-bang stage as well. the protesters, as you can hear, those explosions or a combination - but the protesters are throwing back some small explosive devices, fire crackers and on a couple of occasions we have seen a mohlo tov cocktail

thrown into where the police are camping. across from that tree line, where you can see the protesters looking across and throwing things is where the police have been camped for so long, guarding government house. it seems to be holding firm. the police are not backing away. the protesters are not showing signs of retreating. they are staying and continuing to try to get their way into what is the prime minister's office. >> at the same time it was reported that protesters from the rural areas have moved. that is a stronghold of the current government. does it seem like things will taper off or will it be a standoff? . >> it seems like things will not taper off. getting a lot of tear gas. excuse me if i have to stop

talking. the protesters were asked to leave after a night of violence. those are the pro-government group, the red shirts. i'm just going to get out of the shot and get beneath a cloud of tear gas that's coming across. the red shirts came out to show support for the government in the face of this ongoing anti-government movement. the camp where they set up was close to anti-government protesters, and clashes started to happen saturday night. i'll have to put the gas mask on for a bit. >> we have wayne hay in the midst with anti-government protesters and the police. the police are firing tear garks and have been firing tear gas this morning, and shooting water canon, trying to disperse the protesters, who are standing

strong, saying they'll try to surround government installations. they had succeeded, including the police headquarters, where the thai prime minister was. she's been moved to a secure location. we are outside government house where wayne hay is. there's tear gas in the air. let's see if he's in a position to speak at the moment. wayne? all right. wayne hay... >> the tear gas seems to have - that cloud of tear gas seems to have passed at the moment. certainly it's been coming in the last 30 minutes or so, very thick, very strong, and the protesters trying to force the police back. they are not making much inroad, if any at all. a few hours ago to give you background as to how this confrontation started.

protesters arrived at one of the main entrances to government house. there are concrete barriers guarding the entrances. there's a lot of razor wire and police and tear gas facilities. the protesters started to tear away concrete barriers, using pick-up trucks. they did succeed, there was no action from the police, but the police got on to it and began to fire tear gas. this is what we have seen for the last few hours is the small battles taking place with protesters coming up to the barriers. throwing what they can find into the police station, and the police responding with tear gas and water-canon. >> wayne hay will update us as the situation unfolds. protesters facing off with the police. the police were firing tear gas and water canon earlier.

orange revolution that he based nine years ago. the police action has reinvigorated the movement. there's a steely determination among the protesters to continue with the fight and call for his resignation. >> that was from the capital. >> people in croatia are voting on whether to change their constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman. many have marched against the referendum. it could block legislation on same-sex marriages. protesters say it's discrimination. >> a committee in egypt will vote on a new draft constitution for a second day. a 50-member panel is considering the document after a coup removed mohamed morsi from july. the constitution in place at the

she was amazed to find the credit union dolling out loans most adults would bulk at. >> they were leant over 3 million. there's, i suppose we have heard that there was a lot of - over 500,000 loans given out as well. it didn't seem to be. that goes against the grain of the credit union. >> normally credit unions lend a few thousand. this was doing exactly what caused the banking system to fall over. it's a similarity about what went wrong with the banks in ireland and the credit union. bad loans, the lack of regulation and oversight. in the same way that the banks had to be bailed out by the tax payer the tax payer is having to find $70 million to support the failed credit union. the difference is this: while the institutional investors in

the banks never lost money, the investors in the credit union were the people in the town, and they don't have the safety net. >> the credit union relies on people saving and borrowing. the fear is that knew bridge went big because it couldn't make the credit union model work. >> there's 100,000 in arrears out of 800,000 mortgages. unemployment of close to 13%, it's not possible that credit unions could be immune to that. >> newbridge was one of 12 credit unions not to belong to an accession, which insists that the model is rely ible. >> the model has come through the recession. with the exception of newbridge, it's the only institution standing on its own two feet. >> ireland has just two retail
