government ban on prof at the p. >> and thealso this news hour at off for china's first mission to land a rover on the moon. we'll examine why beijing is so keen to enter the space race. ♪ >> four people have been killed and more than 60 injured after a passenger train derailed in new york. the train was rounding a bend heading for grand central station when several carriages came off the tracks o. one of the cars stopped just short of the hudson river. >> the train was heading to new york's grand central station as the accident happened. as it was about to arrive at a station in the bronx it turned into a notorious bend. some passengers report the train was going too fast.

several carriages jumped the rates and into the fields next to the track. the diesel enbegi engine that ws pushing the train was at the back. >> i was a sleep and i usually hear the screeching of trains in my apartment house a and then there was a sustain screeching and something didn't sound right. it went on longer than normal on that the normal train sound. this ariel shot shows how close the carriages came to ending up in the hudson river. firefighters were called to the scene and they helped passengers in the wreckage. the divers were called in to search the river in case anyone had been thrown clear. one local news outlet said when the driver applied the brakes coming into the station nothing happened and the train go not slow down ntsb are on the scene and they will collect evidence to establish what went wrong.

>> we are looking at all as suspect of thasaspectof the tra. >> the train had an on board computer. this was a sunday morning accident and the train was not packed. if it had been a weekday the number of dead and injured could have been much higher. >> let's get the latest from our correspondent from the scene there. bring us up-to-date with the latest. what is happening at the scene of the crash? >> absolutely. actually we have just found out we know that there are four fatalities. two bodies have just been remove from the scene. there was one that was actually in plain sight to the public that was covered under a sheet but two bodies have now been removed to. the ntsb have moved in and they are now conducting and taken over the investigation really right now looking into what

caused this terrible derailment. beaboubehind me are the four cat are the beginning of the training. thretraining -- train. and three of them are on their sides. we know the four fatalities the individuals were in the first two cars. a short while ago there were scuba divers in the water. >> therthere have been discrepay of how many people were on the train. we heard more than 100 and we heard that 63 people were at local hospitals and 11 people were critically injured. it's hard to get a gauge of how many people were on the train it's not like a flight manifest how many people checked in and how many people were on board. this is a commuter train that goes through new york and up through connecticut a and up state. it was on it's way to grand

central station. it's a holiday weekend and how many people were on the train the last thing i heard was 100 to 200. things are still evolving here. >> i know it's early but any information as to what caused this crash and whether speed was a factor in this accident? >> well what we did hear from some passengers earlier was that they felt that the train was moving very fast. in fact this is a really sharp bend over here. that the curve, the curve the train was going around in fact last july a little south of here there was another metro north accident. so we are not sure right now. we understand that the train conductor is in the hospital. he is in okay condition right now. he is conscious. he is being treated. i imagine they are asking him more questions right now to try

to find out what has happened. this is why the ntsb is now here on the scene they are going to be looking at the place ment off the cars and looking at the information in the actual boxes inside of the train to get gauge of the train speed and how fast it was going. we also know the layout of these trains. there is three seats and then there is it a two seats. we were told that a lot of people because of how the train landed on it's side may have been trapped under their seats. and police did have to cut a lot of people out from being trapped when the cars go faux on their r sides. we are at at scene of the train derailment there in new york. we'll be going back to new york as soon as we have more information on the scene there. thank you. >> in other news egyptian police have used tie tear gas to removo

protestors from the square. demonstrations were held at other universities against a new protest law introduced by the interim government. we are joined by bernard smith now. there have been protests in egypt everyday since the military coup. tell us about the significance of the pr protest today. the students taking to the streets an what the and what the about. >> for the first time today for 50 minutes several hundred student pr protestors were ableo gather in the square. that is the first time anybody has had any protest in the square since back in the summer and the coup that led to the ousting of hamid mor mo morsi.

now it seems the student protestors were able to get into the square. they managed for 50 minutes before the authorities came in, the security forces with the armored personnel care yers cars sending large volumes of tear gas to clear the protestors. there have been ae series of eas events over of the last week heavy sentences handed down between 11 and 17 years for pro toasprotest related offences. a law that the government has introduced and the death of two student protestors atthe hands of the security forces. all of those events have spurred

friday was the day when protestors were allowed inside of the army compound. protestors climbed over the army gates. an army protest oor said they opened the gatesnd allowed them to enter the compound and to give a letter to the army to tell them whose side they are on. you take that development along with today's development where it was the military who attended the meeting with the top leader and the prime minister the top brass of the military were

system has been one of ireland's achievements the clients own them which makes them accountable look at how big this one is and how imposing it is on the high street of newbridge. population of 22,000. sharon knows about the newbridge credit union it was founded by her dad 40 years ago and only ballooned in the last few years she was amazed that the credit union was doling out loans that most banks would balk at. they were lent three million. >> three million. >> yeah three million and there was over 500,000 euro loans given out as well. that goes against the grain of the credit union. >> global credit unions only lend a few thousand at a time. this one was doing what exactly caused the banking system to

fall. the bad loans and the lack of regulation and over sights. and in just the same way the banks had to be bailed out by the taxpayer so the taxpayer is having to find 7 $70 million to support this failed credit union. the difference is this. the institution investors in the banks never lost any money, the institution investors in this credit union were the people of this town. and they don't have that safety net. the credit union system relies on people being able to save and want to borrow. in austerity island where many say they can't repay their bills and pay the loan. the fear is newbridge went big because they couldn't make the credit union moted el wor modele you have people in arrears and unemployment close to 13% it's not possible that credit unions
