>> hi there, welcome to al jazeera america. i'm thomas drayton. we begin with iran. six world powers put the touches on a temporary deal freezing much of tehran's nuclear program. starting on january 20th iran has agreed to roll back the nuclear production. for the next six months the united nations will have full access to nuclear facilities. if iran cop rates a permanent deal will be final used. iran will get relief from sanction, including $6 billion and $7 billion. >> this was the first step taken in november. six countries and iran agreeing to a deal to slow it's nuclear program. now the next step.

iran's leaders will take action. on 20th january they'll enrich uranium to the 5% level, dismontle stock and allow inspections. they'll get relief for gold industry. some overseas accounts will be unfrozen, put in a $6 billion to $7 billion in the economy. they'll try to work out a lopping-term bill. from the powerful to the people on the streets. skepticism about the future. >> translation: it is not easy to be optimistic about this. we should wait and see what happens. time will tell whether the talks will result in conclusion. >> we are clear eyed about the even greater challenges that we face in negotiating the comprehensive agreement. we understand it will be a tough negotiation.

we have very clear about what will be required in order to be able to guarantee to the international community that this is a peaceful prim. >> under the agreement the u.s. promised no new sanctions while they talk. senators say they don't agree with that. threatening to pass a bill to add sanctions on iran, which will be implemented. the white house says it will end the talk and threaten a veto. opponents say they are working to make sure they override it. the congress can take a third, one the white house fears could be the last. >> if iran cop rates, the sanction relief money will be paid out. the first payment of $550 million will be paid at the beginning of february.

they'll stop if iran violates the accord. >> civilians caught in a crossfire as government and al qaeda fighters battle for control. here masked gunmen are firing at a government helicopter. others stood guard over a captured military hummer in fallujah. mill tant and tribal fighters have taken role. the countries are fighting over control of western iraq. 21 were killed. thousands of families have been fleeing their homes. >> there's a surge in rebels fighting each other. in just over a week 700 people have been killed. it is the most serious level of infighting since the civil war began. syrian peace talks will move forward. it's unclear if rebels will attend, despite pressure from international leaders.

getting all parties to agree to a deal will be challenging. >> it was a last-ditch attempt to persuade the syrian opposition to talk to the assad regime. the americans and its partners argue there can be no military victory. after threes years of fighting, they say the only way ahead is a negotiated solution. >> we have renewed our full support for the syrian national council at a time when the syrian people are facing major difficulties. following an extensive discussion, we have adopted the text, presenting our position on the crisis on the direction which the community must follow, and the request of the geneva ii conference take place following the timetable. the syrian political opposition is fragmented as the armed opposition on the ground. one thing the groups agree on is the demands that bashar al-assad

leave the political scene. >> translation: the most important aspect of today's meeting is that we agree to say that bashar al-assad has no future in syria. the family has no future in syria. the syrian opposition is under strong and conflicting pressures. its international partners are adamant that it should take part in peace talks this month. fighters on the ground reject a formula that could enable bashar al-assad to hold on to power. so the meeting ended without a clear yes or no from the syrian national coalition. the americans and their partners want the geneva talks to take place in 10 days. it's difficult to see how that would happen without an empty seat at the table. >> syria plunged into civil war after 2011 after uprising.

the u.s. labelled two libyan groups terrorist organizations for their role in the benghazi attack two years ago. it's the first time the state department blamed someone. >> the groups are not believed to be affiliated with al qaeda, but they pose as big a threat. the attack in benghazi killed four americans, including u.s. ambassador chris stevens. >> israeli pay their respects to former president ariel sharon. they gathered for a canned ill lit vigil. he died eight years after a stroke left him in a coma. a memorial is planned for monday, followed by a military funeral. as nick schifrin reports, the leader is being remembered for his controversial legacy.

blowing around, possibly seeing blizzard conditions. seattle on monday, eyes of 52. we expect to see a rainy day as we go towards the rest of the week. temperatures will remain in the low 50s. towards the south-west we are seeing cloud pushing across san diago and los angeles, we don't expect to see much in terms of weather. that'll be to the north-east. texture wise, 79 degrees, and las vegas 63. temperatures for los angeles, you'll be nice. up to 81 on tuesday and wednesday. plenty of sun in your forecast. across texas it's been dry. a lot of problems with red flag warnings. they have been dropped. to kansas and oklahoma, a problem with the dry temperatures. a lot of rain across the golf coasts and dallas with a high of 65, not looking too bad.

david noticed a difference right away. >> customers made more shopping for the kids, produce and fresh meet. now it's down and down. they buy only a little of what they need. >> i hope that they will get back in trees, snare a little more. >> snap recipients may see benefits cut more. congress is nearing agreement on a new bill, meaning an average snap cup. >> i'll buy cheaper items, not overspend. things like that. >> how tough is it? >> well, when you are not working, it's tough. >> they can pray for better days. the church pastor is worried about the domino effect on the neighbourhood.

jumping in and out of cars. i did not know. prostituting my body. she is doing better. she's sober and has a job. for 20 years this nonprofit founded by a priest has helped troubled women get clean and sober, and all through private grants and donations. thistle farms receives no government assistance. the rehabilitation program has given her hope and tools she needs to stay clean. she also learned that she was not alone. >> they said how they had been raped, molested, how god brought them through, how they could live, laugh and love, and there is hope. >> for more than a dozen years government had been making the products by hand. they are sold over the country. the cafe is the knewest venture. everything from the desk to the
