there in the rape of a girl there. >> ukraine's acting president said that he would welcome united nations peace keepers in the country. pro russia activists moved in to a police station monday. they're now occupying state property in ten towns and cities. the government of kiev warned of military action if groups do not give up their weapons, but so far there is no sign of the threat carrying out. >> ththe most dramatic scenes at the police station.

we understand that there was some shape resistence inside that building. we were told that there are stun grenades being thrown with rocks being thrown inside the building with each man coasting to the roof, they still remain in control that have building now. in donesk they want referendum from kiev, and they want that referendum held on may 11th before the presidential elections may 25th. they plan to boycott those presidential elections if the referendum is not held first. we're seeing today some authorities angry at the interior minister, saying he is not acting fast enough to quell the tension in the east. others are saying the words from kiev don't mean much with the deadline come and go.

categorially denied they were taking part in the destabilization in eastern ukraine. he said we have no agent there is. we have no intelligence and no troops. basically saying the west don't really get it. but the people of ukraine of eastern ukraine, those russian speakers, they have their own point of view, protests and grievances, and they're carrying out their own demonstrations in the government of kiev in pro russia support. basically lavrov said it's in russia's interest for ukraine to be stable, united as long as all the people are treated equally referring to the eastern russian speakers. he also said that--called on had a message for the u.s. and e.u. as this crisis continues to worsen. >> we need an honest and coherent reaction from the west

demonstrators were arrested. students regularly have protested at university campus campuses. an egyptian group has named a group in say my as a terrorist organization. and believed to be behind much of the violence in the area. it has expanded operations after president mohamed morsi was overthrown last july. staying in egypt, al jazeera is demanding the immediate release of its journalists imprisoned in egypt. they have appeared in court on thursday. the case had been adjourned until later this month. they're falsely accused of providing a platform to the ousted muslim brotherhood. they have been behind bars for 108 days. the fourth al jazeera journalist

also expressions of resolve. once again william hague saying there do need to be consequences for russia in terms of sanctions, signally perhaps a move towards so-called stage three sanctions. these would be far-reaching economic sanctions that would target russia's business and industry perhaps it's banking sector, arms and energy as well. this has been the sanctions in the annexation of crimea, and william hague saying russia's denials don't have a shred of credibility.

>> what is interesting we've heard ukrainians directly ask for peacekeeping forces in the eastern part of the country. any more on sanctions or boots on the ground. >> that has not come up, barba barbara, at least in the last few weeks it's been made clear on a number occasions that there is no appetite for direct intervention in the ukraine. there is a great show of unity between the european union and n.a.t.o. the reinvigorating, and the secretary general with talk of joint military exercises with ukraine and bolstering the eastern i lions. sanctions is the way they're going or thinking they're going but they will attempt to hold

off because they are also very focused on the idea of diplomacy and continue to hope that there will be a negotiated resolution to this crisis. perhaps on thursday in geneva as they look forward to a four-way contact talks between the e.u. the united states, russia and the ukraine. many hopes here pinned on a resolution because they don't want to have to move forward with stronger sanctions against russia because of the threat of blow back against the european union, who have deep trade with russia. that could be brought to a halt. >> thank you for that. the u.s. said a russian fighter aircraft made repeated low altitude close range passes near one of its ships in the black sea over the weekend. the pentagon has called it a
