severe weather may have been a factor in a deadly overnight explosion at a jail in florida. two inmates were killed and three others are still missing. 150 people both inmates and guards hurt when part of that building collapsed. firefighters say it appears that a natural gas line ruptured has been inundated by rain, but investigators say it is too soon to find out whether the nodding caused that explosion. this same front has also given us dramatic changes. that could even fuel more
1:06 pm
thunderstorms today, but a lot of this continues to clear out, so anything for today will be more spotty. you can see kind of where that layed across florida. and into central florida tomorrow, and of course, we have had some much rain, some parts of that coastline, up to two feet over two days. any more rain will certainly cause additional flooding.

in mississippi some neighborhoods are gone, some return to find nothing. robert gray was with one family, and watch as the only thing they could do was cry. for the first time, michelle botts is seeing what 200 mile-an-hour winds can do. michelle was set to return from a contract job in alaska, this weekend. her family was planning to welcome her home with a party, instead, five bedrooms gone, three generations homeless. officials in winston county, still don't know how many homes were damage, the destruction rolls on for miles the result of a storm system that killed nine people, in this town alone.
1:08 pm
michelle's drown son was sleeping when the storm struck. he is in the hospital, still, he has -- he survived afghanistan, and he survived -- he's been out two years july will be two years. and then this he survived this. >> i have to ask, how do you pull it together to be able to say i'm going to rebuild and stay in mississippi after this? >> mississippi is isny home. ly be 46 years old tomorrow, this is my home. my family is here, and i have always dreamed of having a house that had everybody in it.
1:09 pm
and i lost everything but we can get it back. >> a family determined not to pull up stakes because their roots are so firmly planted here. robert gray, al jazeera, lewisville mississippi. forcing sterling to get rid of his team. john henry smith has more. >> i am banning mr. sterling for life donald sterling may be banned for life, but for now, the billionaire still owns the clippers. now some heavy hitters may be interested in a piece of the franchise should the remaining 29 miami clubs force him to sell. a trio comprised of former talk show queen oprah winfrey, music mogul and oracle founder and ceo larry eliason confirmed their interest in buying
1:10 pm
the organization. he says he and eliason would run the team, something he says winfrey has no interest in doing. but she has expressed one motive for her involvement. "she thinks it would be a great thing for an important black american to own another franchise." they will face some stiff competition from a host of other bidders including champion boxer floyd mayweather. >> me and my team do want to buy the clippers and we can afford it. >> another potential owner is donald sterile's wife, but court documents in a lawsuit have is surfaced in recent days detailing her own history of racists remarks and actions. yahoo sports is reporting the players union is not in favor of mrs. sterling taking over for her husband. >> this one is about as great as they come. >> the clippers, valued by forbes at over $575 million they suddenly be a hot commodity, but first, 75% of nba team owners need to
1:11 pm
vote sterling out. something kings owner expects will happen. these teams really belong to the fans and to the players. we owners are simply custodians. and so i fully expect that commissioner silver will get the support that he seeks. the violence continues today in ukraine, they are trying to break kiev's grip on the eastern part of
1:12 pm
ukraine, they petted them with rocks and stones and eventually the police had a hurries retreat, and many cases they have their shields and helmets taken by the crowd, who are chanting shame, and they are chanting fascist. and this is another graphic example of how the authority of the government in kiev is collapsing here in eastern ukraine. separatist are still holding military on servers hostage, taking those seven europeans last friday. they work for the organization for security and cooperation, negotiators are now, ownerring toward their release. and israel benjamin says he wants it to be official, he wants israel to be declare add jewish nation state.
1:13 pm
nick, some would say this is salt on a very fresh wound, so why now? what benjamin would say, is exactly what you say about those peace talks. they collapsed are or certainly on a pause, and during those, they demanded the palestinians recognize israel as a jewish state. that is something the palestinians refuse to do, also something that the arab league refused to do. and so that's why they are saying that he came out and said that some are trying to undermine israel's jewish app, and that's why he is propose had is called a basic clause. an equivalent of an amendment in the u.s. israeli law split into 2. that's the fund mental aspects of israeli law, the legal foundation, so that's
1:14 pm
why, dale, that he pushes this kind of fundamental very basic motion that israel declearing itself a jewish state. >> nick, i am curious, have we had any reaction from palestinians in the region? well, this is going to be very con ten, just to give you perspective, there are more palestinian citizens living in israel than in the u.s. there are african-americans in terms of percentage. that's 20% of the population, african persons are about 15 or 14% of the u.s. population. and they say that will relegate them to kind of official second class citizen ship, and they say this is a slippery slope, if you pass this law, you may be able to pass other laws that disenfranchise them. they also say if you pass this law, that will remove
1:15 pm
permanently, their right to return to homes that they had before 1948, before the country of israel existed and they would be accepting the israeli narrative for what happened in the last 60 years. in response says look, we aren't going that far at all, all we are doing is deareaing basic law a jewish state, we will also promote, and respect, and adhere to everyone's civil rights and personal rights in the state of israel, regardless of whether they are jewish or not. >> like in jerusalem today, thank you very much. well, still ahead, we will take you to may day rallies around the world, including for the first time in more than 20 years moscow. we have new developments on that issue, framing may day protests and celebrations that story just ahead.

at the alter of profit.iced >> the service employees international june i don't know active the campaign last fall that brought a $15 minimum wage to about 1500 workers in suburban is also the major organizing force behind the campaign. in both cases the union keeping a low profile preferring a more grass roots movement. and perhaps as missed opportunity for labor. says author and professor jake rosen felt. >> there's always a grass roots component, at the same time, it takes support and it takes resources to do these things. and there's no shame and coming out and saying that
1:20 pm
was us. >> at workers rally it is no surprise that here in seattle, the voices for 15 now will be among the loudest. >> i think the 15-dollar an hour idea make as great slogan, but doesn't necessarily make great policy. will likely go before voters in some form this fall. seattle with a booming business sector and a long history of labor battles and compromises is a city that can afford to have the debate. i think that -- i don't think most people in seattle are socialist, like shamas. but i do think they think capitalism can be a lot farrer. >> we will see what kind of
1:21 pm
an impact it has on the events of the day. we have workers right rallies and marchs plan, these have evolved spirals into confrontation, violence, vandalism, and arrests in the past, we will see what happens today, all of it framed by the political debate over raising the minimum wage. >> allen for us live, thank you very much. meanwhile, protestors are taking to the streets around the world, from indonesia to istanbul, hundreds of thousands are demanding access to jobs and higher wages. in russia, tens of thousands marching through red square. it is the first such display of the soviet era ceremony. may day protestors also in

the streets of indonesia. demonstrators say the peers in thailand have better living standards than they do. and in istanbul turkey, demonstrators clashing with police, police fired tier gas at the crowd near the historic square. protestors wanted to hold their rallies there, but were told no. more on the violence that followed. >> demonstrators and police have clashed in several neighborhoods. demonstrators tried to march to the square, the police prevented them using tier gas and water call nones. the government is preventing unions from using squares that a venue for the may day rally. distake right to demonstrateever and whenever they want. this is part of an on going
1:23 pm
struggle in this. there is not just about a may day rally, the government does have it's critics. it was democratically elected, it has won the local elections but it's critics believe it has been abusing it's power. nose who have taken to the streets feel they are being silenced. they want to feel they can express their demands. yes, this was supposed to be a day when workers mark labor day, but it is showing really that the growing divide, the polarization in turkish society, but the security forces are out in force, more than 30,000 police officers deployed all roads leading to the square have been sealed. so the government is went on preventing any may day rally here, and really this is a symbolic square for the unions it is traditional, rallying point

1:26 pm
gone, and we can get an education without fear. but the taliban isn't entirely gone, and it hasn't stopped targeting girls that want to learn. activists was shot in the head on her way home from school. in the main town, the armed group said it attacks her because she was anti-taliban, and secular. the other obstacles preventing all children in the valley from getting an education, although the schools have been rebuilt, there still isn't something for all students. there are so many we just can't cope with the demand. all the though the threats and violence is very real, the facts so many young people come to classes, is a sign of just how much has
