in afghanistan rescuers abandoned the search for survive juniors and are focussing on recovering bodies. more than 2,000 are missing and feared dead. the did asker happened in badakhshan. that remoteness made it difficult for aid agencies to reach the affected village. we have this report. >> reporter: a mass prayer for a mass grave. these afghan villagers have given up on finding survivors, and now want to just locate the bodies of family and friends. the focus have moved to helping hundreds who lost their homes. >> i'm one of the survivors that came offer the mud. right now we need tents so we

bringing items, such as tents, food, hygiene supplies and so forth. >> it's been hard for emergency teams to meet the floats. narrow roots have been narrowed by rain. the hillside is unstable. adding to forwards that another part may cave in. >> our team is in the did asker area and we were sent this update. >> the villagers tells me that the aid has come. it is a temporary aid, but for now the aid is not organised, it is not distributed properly. they want more transparency in terms of delivering the ace to the needy people who basically suffered or survived this massive landslide. getting the aid to this area has been a challenging task for the government or for the aid organizations.

the roads are watched out by the floods in the past one week. the mountains, the geography is very challenging get all those aid required on time to these people. >> yemen's army has stepped up the offenses in the south. hundreds of vehicles have been sent. on tuesday u.s. and yemeni drove strikes tried to drive al qaeda out of the area. more than 20 government soldiers and 28 fighters have been killed. ukranian troops are advancing in the east to stop pro-russian groups taking over more towns. the government says soldiers made gains in what it calls an anti-terror operation. in slovyansk a pro-russian stronghold forces have surrounded the city. in an eastern town, kramatorsk the offensive is on going. pro-russian supporters are

gaining the upper hand in luhansk. ukraine declared three days of mourning after more than 30 died in a burning building occupied by pro-russian demonstrators. jody hull is in odessa with the latest. >> reporter: perhaps unsurprising there are competing narratives about what happened, depending on which side you speak to. the pro-russian side insists that many of the people who died in the burning building were victims of mob justice carried up by supporters of kiev. on the other side a peaceful march was broken up by gun-wielding pro-russian mobs. there are overarching questions - who started the fire when both sides were lobbing molotov cocktails at each other and who was inside the building. the government suggests that there is evidence among the dead is russian citizens and people

that you may find disturbing. >> reporter: this is all that was left of a bus that was targeted. attackers threw a grenade at it and a group of passengers. blood sustained the streets as emergency services arrived to carry await the injured. >> i saw three people dead immediately after the blast. there were men injured. we took about eight people to hospital. many took themselves to get treatment. >> minutes later a second attack in the same city. a bag with an improvised explosive device. people passing by managed to take cover and remarkably no one was killed. police say they don't yet have an splaption for who was behind the blast. kenya was a tart. it's trying to publish the kenyan government.

mombassa is a major port for the east african region. as well as being a draw card for tourists. the president said it's a tax like these that are bringing kenya's tourism industry in its knees. a curfew has been imposed in the indian state as 31 muslims have been shot dead in the last three days. the army deported troops. police blame rebels from the border tribe for the attack, accusing them of targetting immigrants from bangladesh. we are joined from the outskirts of the state capital. thank you for joining us much can you update us on the situation there, please? . >> reporter: well, it seems there has been no new violence in the last day or so. there is a fear that more bodies could be discovered. like you mentioned, at least 31

bodies have been recovered. many appear to have been shot. no one has taken responsibility so far. the police are accusing a faction of the national democratic front for the attacks. now, this group has been fighting for a separate state for a number of years. in an email after the news broke two reporters - they denied involvement. nobody has taken responsibility so far. all the victims appear to be muslim at this stage, and officials suspect that they were targeted because they did not support the candidate in the ongoing elections - national elections that india is having. district officials that we spoke to, in the worst affected distribute, say that they are dealing with about 500 people who have fled in fear after the attacks. they are providing them temporary relief, shelter, and

slide that swept a remote village in nearby afghanistan. 2,000 are reported missing and 4,000 have been replaced. three people have been killed and several others injured in twin explosions in the port city of mombassa. a grenade was thrown at a passenger bus while a second blast was near a resort. troops are advancing in the east. the government said soldiers made more gains in what it called an anti-terror praigs. jordan appealed to the international community for help in assisting refugees from syria and is hosting a high-level conference to discuss the crisis. jordan has 600,000 registered refugees, taking the number across the region to close to 3 million. more than 6.5 million have been forced to leave their homes but remain inside syria. we have been at the catholic church in qatari camp and joins

us live. what else has come out of that conference. >> this is the third meeting of its kind. it includes the foreign ministers of turkey, jordan, lebanon, egypt and the social affairs minister of lebanon. the last meeting, the second one was in turkey in january. they are trying to, as they say, draw the world's attention to the humanitarian impact of the refugee crisis on the countries hosting the most refugees, and we heard from the foreign minister of jordan, and the u.n. high commissioner of refugees and said that jordan and lebanon are posting the largest number of refugees. they are calling it a humanitarian disaster, because it is growing. and the impact on society and the economy and the countries that are posting the refugees are detrimental. and the solution to the conflict is not humanitarian or military,

but is political. they see that the refugees from syria will come to neighbouring countries and need support. they say the international community has to step up efforts to support the country's hosting refugees. the united nations refugee agency requested for 2014, 4.25 billion u.s. as a regional response to deal with refugees in these countries around the syrian borders and have only received 25% of that. they say that this is enough. enough is enough. the jordanian foreign minister said that lip service are a distraction. we need help, we need immediate support because this crisis is growing. and the impact is absolutely detrimental, and the human high commissioner for refugees called on all countries to keep borders open to syrian rev knees and he -- refugees and he referred to incidents where syrian refugees were supposed to get by

democratics alliance. it has also been making final pitches to voters this weekend. >> reporter: the blue of the democratic alliance filled the hall like a rising tide. although it's more popular than ever, it's small compared to the governing enginesal congress. it's south africa's biggest party. >> if our government was doing its work properly south africa would be attracting more investment. the economy would be growing faster to create the jobs we need to tackle our biggest problem, which is unemployment and poverty. >> all opposition parties say they can create the jobs. the australian national congress hasn't. >> the da has a problem. >> the democratic alliance is perceived to be a party that protects the interests of white. some of its leaders and the vast majority of the crowd are black.

that perception holds it back. >> the a.n.c. has the influence of nelson mandela in its corner. it's given people houses, better services and social grants. supporters will not turp their back on the former liberation movement easy. the da and economic freedom fighters say the a.n.c. is core up. eff is promising to nationalize mines and banks and is targetting first-time voters, like this woman who is passing their rally on the way to work. she is not convinced. >> when i see helen sziller campaigning the way she kuz, i see a lot -- does, i see a lot of symbolic transformation, but not addressing the bread and butter issues. >> equality is rife. especially in the eastern cape. most of the young men are out of work. >> i will move forward because the government is doing that. when we go looking.

we have patches. they will eat tax pairs money. >> they are not likely to be major changes. the a.n.c.'s dominance is guaranteed and it appears to be losing some of its appeal. >> and i will talk a little more with the party spokesman. the headline policy around nationalization and seizing land without compensation. what is the rational for the policy. >> trying to respond to what has become a crisis of poverty, ipp equalities and deep unemployment. we believe that in order to re-organise society, we have to be able to reconcile as much as possible. a lot of people with the moons of assistance because remember what colonisation stands for.
