>> u.s. is now considering what actions to take considering the growing crisis in iraq. today another navy ship has been deployed to that area evacuations of american personnel in baghdad already under way. u.s. is in talks with iran about the conflict. isil claims several areas and killed hundreds of people so far. >> president obama has been in california for the weekend has been in close and constant contact with his susan rice. today when he returns from the west coast he expected to get updated briefings, there have been several significant steps

over the weekend to indicate the state department moves some personnel from iraq into jordan. the amphibious dark ship is moving into the arabian gulf. it can transport up to 800 marines. it is designed for use in quick reaction and crisis response. for example, rescue of american citizens from the embassy of iraq should that be necessary. nothe pentagon said the task force will give the command center chief additional options should he choose to use them to protect american citizens and interests in iraq.

this morning in an interview, secretary of state john kerry said drone strikes may be an option against isil insurgents. >> it's not the whole answer but they may well be one of the options that are important to stem the tide and stop the movement of open convoys and trucks terrorizing people. when you have people murdering, assassinating in these mass massacres, you have to stop that, and do you what you need to do if you need to try to stop it from the air or otherwise. americans obviously feel powerfully about not putting boots back on the ground in iraq, so we'll consider what options are available to us. but you cannot allow that march. it's our basic judgment of most people in the region that you can't just let them run the whole hog over the country. >> secretary kerry predicts that

president obama will be acting soon in iraq. >> well, after a week of heavy losses that saw the fall of mosul that saw soldiers surrendering, iraq is fighting back launching airstrikes. it was a show of force by iraqi prime minister nouri al maliki who claims hundreds of rebels have been killed in the counter offensive. he continues to issue a call for arms. >> all iraqi people we will crush our enemies. >> dozens of shiite muslims have heeded that call. but despite assurances that

baghdad is safe two hav explosions have killed nine. the embassy has decreased its personnel in threats to violence. and isil share these images, pictures on their website of iraqi soldiers they claim they rounded up before killing 1700. as the obama administration weighs using air power against isil some of the president's critics say the time to act is now to avoid greater threats to the u.s. later. >> we need air power to immediately stop the advance towards baghdad. the seeds are being planted across iraq and syria.

texas with the september 11th attacks. a government military operation pakistan's airport targeting several targets north of wiziristan. the united states has longed complained to pakistan about its failure it go after what it considers to be safe havens for fighter groups. as many as 48 people were killed in kenya on sunday. the unidentified men set fire to three hotels and police station. al jazeera reports kenya's government says it is the work of the armed group al-shabaab. >> the gunmen drove into the town on sunday evening in two minivans that gives you an idea of just how many attackers and assailants that are believed to be involved. some estimates put it up to 50 gunmen involved in the attack.

the extent of the damage transpired monday morning when it had become clear that several gunmen buildings, local lodging houses, a petrol station, restaurants and coffee shops were damaged by the gunfire, and that also many people had fled into a nearby forest seeking refugee there. now it's important to note that the attack appears to have been targeted locals as opposed to an attack targeting westerners or tourist target per se. in that sense this attack will appear to be different. authorities immediately pointed at the blame as al-shabaab, and this comes with with the larger context that there is an ongoing terror threat in this country. we have seen foreign government issuing travel warnings to its citizens.

this comes just yet another security incident in larger ongoing terrorist threat in kenya. >> in an phone call israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu telling palestinian president mahmoud abbas that he expect his him to help in return of the three kidna kidnapped teenagers. >> they are going historica hysterical. they came to the house and threw three stun grenades towards the house while people were sleeping inside. >> the teenagers were last seen hitchhiking near the settlement where they live. russia cutting off all gas

supplies to ukraine after kiev failed to settle it's debt. russia says now ukraine has to pay up front. >> they have effectively said if you want gas you have to pay for it now, and you have to pay for it up front. it's the result really of fruitless negotiations in have been going on for weeks. we had talks in berlin, brussels. russia even though it was willing to extend the deadline to pay was not willing to lower the price below $338 per cubic meters, and now russia has run out of patience and told ukraine it will only receive gas it has paid for up front and warned

europe about its supplies as this lumbers on. now there is one mitigating factor which is effectively everyone wants this situation resolved. the russians don't want to lose huge customers from ukraine and european union, and europe and ukraine don't want their supplies to be effecte affected, so hopefully there can be resolutions before winter rolls around and people really do need gas. >> a trial in washington, d.c. blackwater employees were guarding a diplomatic convoy in september 2011 when they open fired killing iraqi civilians. a number of witnesses are

scheduled to testify about what they saw that day in baghdad. the trial is expected to run five and six months. the trial of three colleagues has now beened been adjourned until june 23rd unti for the verdict. >> almost six months behind bars waiting for others to decide their fate. mohamed fahmy, bader mohammed, and peter greste are on trial falsely accused of supporting of muslim brotherhood. the prosecutor is asking for the maximum jail terms. 15 years for mohamed fahmy, bader mohammed, and peter greste seven years. and they are not alone. abdullah elshamy is also in prison. but without charge.
