as palestinians and israelis continue fighting. had a hams said it won't stop until it gets what it wants. the last day for turkish candidates to make their case aheacase to voters before they go to poll in. and african top fashion labels in london. >> so the u.s. president has vowed to continue to continue the fighting in iraq. he said that it will not be involved soon. he said that the government in iraqi needs to form an unity government to stop the threat.
12:02 pm
>> we will take action to protect our people. we'll continue to provide military assistance as they battle these terrorists so the terrorists cannot establish a permanent safe haven. even as our attention is focused on preventing an act of genocide in helping the men, women and children to hel on the mountain, thousands have fled from their hopes, including many christians. this morning i spoke with prime minister cameron of the united kingdom and president hollande of france, i'm pleased both leaders support our action. >> tom, what else did the president say about u.s. involvement in the conflict in iraq and the reasons for this
12:03 pm
extensive involvement? >> first of all, he said there was no plan for combat troops to return to iraq. there is no military solution to the problem facing the iraqi government, which he said must basically look at this advance, this dramatic advance as a wake-up call on composing acti a government and the implication here is that the iraqis under the administration of prime minister maliki has antagonized the sunni population in the iraq so that they drew support from elements of the sunni population in that country.
12:04 pm
but in terms of the immediate situation the president couched his response to the teach to the yazidi religion groups who appear to be threatened by the islamic state as a humanitarian proposition, and again he said that it coo be a very difficult or complicated how to get them safe passage down from the mountains and into safe territory. again, the speculation here that there may an need for u.s. special forces to be involved in stages to provide transfer for that population. but the estimate estimated 40,000 people on that mountain, you can imagine it would an important operation, and the president did not say how it might be executed.

12:06 pm
>> reporter: well, it depends on what you mean by inclusive, really. this is a very tough call and there are a lot of moving parts to this. one is u.s. airstrikes. the other is a prime minister who won't step down the demonstrations that we're seeing in baghdad. i would say the last time that there was spontaneous demonstration in iraq, demonstrations like that are politically planned or motivated. so it was an indication as president's repeated reference to an inclusive government that prime minister maliki is trying to hang on and it seems that the united states as well as others do not see it as beneficial. they were supposed to agree on friday. they were supposed to agree on sunday. now the main session of the parliament to agree will be moved to monday with no
12:07 pm
indication that there will be an agreement. >> thank you very much, jane. we're getting news now. we're hearing that the islamic state militants surrounds and threa threatens to execute the yazidi. president barack obama said that the u.s. is there to support them against genocide. they are being threatened of execution. we'll get you more details on that as that comes in. it just highlights the situation in northern iraq, and the desperation that the minority are under at the moment. we'll be getting you more on

12:11 pm
>> kimberly, earlier there was machinations that earlier the israelis could rejoin talks in cairo. can you tell us what you're hearing about possible talks to extend the cease-fire agreement? >> it's still unclear whether or not that is going to take place. it's unclear whether the israeli delegation is going to participate. we're told that they should stay in place that something is about to happen. this according to the egyptian mediators. on the other hand we are told, and though this is unconfirmed reports about the israeli media. we're hearing that the delegation will not be returning to cairo as long as there is rocket fire. we can tell you that there has been rocket fire. 28 according to the israeli military. 28 local time. that is still unclear. the other thing that is unclear is that both sides may be considering what is called an undeclared cease-fire. that means neither side can agree to the terms that have
12:12 pm
been discussed, but that they do not want to see continuation of fighting. result this is what is being considered. i can tell you it is still the jewish holy day of sh abot. that ends the nightfall. we hope to have clarification at that time in is there indication whether the israelis are going to be bracing for more rocket fire? what are you hearing about their next move? >> there really has been no word about the next move, and that's because again because of the jewish holy day of shabot should be ending at nightfall which is and a couple of hours, we should have better clarifications. but traditionally on the jewish holy day there is very little information that comes our. that's what we're dealing with right now. rumors an reports about the israeli media trying to sort that out. it's something that we hope will become clear very soon.
