yemen. not enough food to eat and the access to the secretive nation. >> well, we have breaking news in nigeria and there is a cease fire agreement with the armed group that is responsible for the kidnapping of dozens of girls earlier in the year. we are on the line there, and how far reaching is the deal from what we know so far? >> what we know is that both sides agreed no more attacks and no more bombs and government is not attacking the boko haram and they are negotiating on the release of the girls abducted six months ago and they have made substantial progress but not gotten there yet.
11:02 am
we have more to deal with and the government talks are underway. we do know that boko haram wanted the commanders released from the government captivity and the women and children to be released and a long list of things they want before releasing the girls. how long before the girls are released is something that the people are waiting to find out. >> interesting time as the president is expected to announce tomorrow he'll run for another term, right? >> yes, it does. the times of this actually what some people are looking at and saying it is quite interesting about the timing that on saturday he's going to announce he's going to run for a second term and could be working well for him. he's coming under pressure and
11:03 am
saying that why are the attacks continuing and why six months, why taking six months to find the girls and bring them back to the families and in the capital, the people are marching and callical calling for the release of the girls and people are angry and frustrated and it is likely that the president will use this news to try and ease people's tensions, to try and calm the people in nigeria and i suppose bearing in mind there is a big election in 2015. people want to know where are the girls and what condition are they are and when are they coming home. thank you. >> thank you. >> now in libya, 16 people killed in the benghazi.
11:04 am
they are called for a cease fire to release the families trapped in the fighting. the soldiers loyal to the general have launched to regain the ground. the general is saying he's going the run for the president if the libyans demand it. he was a close ally and rose throughout the ranks and he was captured in the 1987 conflicts and denying prisons of war there and didn't try to free. he returned to libya in 2011 during the uprising and fouth alongside some of the groups and now are his rivals. we have more on the situation in
11:05 am
benghazi. >> benghazi is caught up in a struggle for control. and in alliance of the militia groups. war planes bombed the positions and people supporting the general forces have dismantled the check points set up with the fighters affiliated. libya is now under the control of two opposing governments by the armed groups engaged in the daily fighting. south of tripoli these are some of the families escaping the fighting. >> o they shelled our house in the middle of the night, my son was injured and the doctors couldn't do anything for him and he died. >> the town's university is turned into a temporary shelter
11:06 am
and no school here. >> our country is in a state of war and the schools are closed. we had to leave our homes and come and live here. because of the fighting, we have missed the lessons, that is sad. >> the nonstop fighting is killing hundreds and forced hundreds to leave their homes. it is repeated across the country. violence and rivalries split libya and toppled the former leader. it is showing no signs of reconciliation. >> now, in yemen the fighting killed at least ten people.
11:07 am
at least eight people killed in the southern province. we are in the capital and going live to him in a moment, but first his report. >> soon after the prayers are offered in the southwest there was a message to fighters. they are not welcomed here and the pledge to protect the province and the country. 2.2 million people and most of them sunni and response that cou could bring a different aspect to fighting. >> no one can enter by force. my response and ethical duty is
11:08 am
securing the ties. it is aur duty to provide security to the citizens. >> in the province, fighters gathered their forces and fought for the control of parts of the province. but the group remains unopposed in other parts of the country and made significant gains in recent days and weeks and controlling more than six provinces and the important port on the red sea and controlling the capital and yemen has a new reality. >> let's go live and he's in the capital center and first of all,
11:09 am
talk about the push south from the capital and why going to the areas south of capital? >> well, they want to expand their control on as much as territory as they can. six provinces have fallen under the control and took the port city and took -- and they are expanding to the east, to the west and they have, seem to have a plan, a clear plan to consolidate the grip to get more political and military influence. we have the latest update about the fight between the groups and the witnesses said they have
11:10 am
managed to enter the town. the town in around is a strong hold and the fighting there now ended and they are in control of the town. you have mentioned there is fighting on going and i think it will only escalate twuz the tribal leaders are promising to rid the city of the fighters. >> they are capturing the territories, where is the army in all of this? >> that is the big question, they are standing still. they were direct orders from the minister of the defense to his military to commanders and they have clear orders not to confront. some occasions he even ordered the military commanders to open the doors of the military bases and allow fighters to talk all the weapons in a number of
11:11 am
bases. all this is leading to the people in the capital and across yemen thinking there is an allian alliance. both of these camps have some scores to settle with the common enemies, mainly the islamist front in the country and brotherhood and the tribal leaders and the military commanders. >> thank you for that. >> the united states and the allies are bombing the fighters from the islamic state. kurdish forces are saying that the air strikes are helping to recapture the territories are isis. we have more on the turkey
11:12 am
border. first to the report. >> a barrage of u.s. air strikes in and around in last four days halted the advance of the fights from the islamic state. one activist is saying that the bodies are littering the streets. the battle is taken place without the involvement of the turkish military and the target wants to target the syrian president and isis and the u.s. only as isis in their sights and air strikes alone are not enough to save the town. >> if they send ammo, the battle will be, you know, will end soon in just a few days, but if the situation stays like this, the
11:13 am
battle will be long. >> on friday afternoon, isis shells close to the turkish border. >> let's go live on the turkey and syria border and becoming the focus of fighting and why? >> well, just an explosion close to the border and it is because we believe that border crossing would allow isil fighters into turkey and they are treating the fighters from a humane basis. there is a lot of mortar firing
11:14 am
going on at the border post, there was a lull earlier on and that is the latest one. and the air a strikes coming in as well to target where the mortar fire is coming from. as far as we understand the border area is in control of the kurdish. more than 50 in the last four days or so, and the kurdish fighters are saying they are making a difference and allowed the kurds to retake parts of the town and moving back to positions unopposed. however, they are not enough on their own and we spoke to a fighter and look the problem that the isis fighters are hiding in the houses and
11:15 am
buildings and it is difficult to pinpoint where they are and the air strikes alone are not taking them out. you have to go building to building and street to street and the isis fighters have 30% of the south and the east of the area and it is difficult to find them in the houses. >> thanks so much. >> now across the border in iraq, the security forces are trying to push the fighters back in and the iraqi armies and the police launched the separations. shelling on a mosque killed nine people. >> people lives in areas controlled by isis it is a hard life and the supplies are unavailable to them and thousands are crossing to kurdish areas to escape.
11:16 am
>> they crossed the enemy lines and it is not a matter of choice. thousands make this journey, this road is a lifeline for many under the control of the islamic state. it is the only official route to reach the kurdish controlled route to north. >> we decided to kwom and stay until the situation improves. but to reach here it took 7 hours and drove on the dirt roads and no one stopped us from leaving. >> this border is a front line. isis positions and kurdishes are less than the kilometer apart. the security is tight here. cars are not allowed through. people can only cross on foot. but the traffic is not only one way. >> a these people are living in
11:17 am
the territories controlled by the islamic state and many are too scared to speak, as you can see, they return home. >> some don't want to leave their homes and others can't afford to pay for accommodations in the safer area to the north and many who cross just to buy the goods an indications of how difficult it is to find the basic supplies in the isis controlled territories. this is what we are told by some that decided to taj rerefugee. >> nothing in mosul. >> people are tired. each person here as a story to tell. life inos in mosul is living in darkness. isis is detaining the people and stealing from them he ses says. he feels now heck breathe on the

other side. >> in syria the government forces are continuing to target the position strong holds in their sif war and 70 people killed after the air force jets are hitting the positions. >> chaos and confusion, this neighborhood in the syrian capital is coming under attack from the government jets. the wounded are quickly helped to safety. buildings are left to burn and the people are running for cover as air strikes are targeting the city. these are the scenes that the people of syria are becoming familiar with. what started as uprising against the government three and a half years is now a civil war. the estimate of killed exceeded 200,000. the opposition fighters are
11:19 am
remaining determined not to succeed. >> behind the syrian lines it is surprise to them that the military lines are in confusion and we had the advantage. >> to the east, the fighters use the gorilla tactics to inflict the damage on the syrian forces. using a tunnel they had dug, aattacked the government positions and attacked for four days before retreating. to a city the the north, the fighters are holding the ground while the government troops are inching closer. >> just a few meters are between us, the fighting is nonstop from dusk to dawn every day. >> reduces to rubble. but the fighters are saying they have to defend their position
11:20 am
because it is oveooking the supply route used by the regime. >> coming up, how one of the front libranes in northern iraq a lifeline for thousands. >> challenges, opposition is asking for a recall. and joe is here to tell you why the west indies cricket team has a match cancelled. >> rebel groups released two german hostages and the al qaeda linked group threatened to kill unless the demands were met and wanting five and a half merchandise and germany stopped supported the air strikes on the
11:21 am
isis fighters and a part of the ransom was paid. we are live now and what can you tell us about the release? >> well, i can tell you it is confirmed that the senior officer in the philippine army said that there is a release both german hostages stephen and his partner henry have both been handed over to the philippine authority hands and taken to a base on an island and for the medical checks and then sent by vessel here for further medical checks if needed and a flight on to manila.
11:22 am
that confirms what we have heard where the main place is where the fighters have been putting the message out and in contact with the radio station and they are saying live on air this evening that they had handed over these two individuals and they have been paid the full amount of the ransom, $5.6 million and that element of the release is not confirmed. >> thanks so much. >> hundreds of egyptians are protesting. demonstrations are demanding that the the former president return to power. he was ousted in july of last year and in prison ever since.
