conflict. >> i am joining with the sport as the beijing marathon goes ahead despite heavy smog in the chinese capitol. participants had to pull out despite running. in a mask. we begin where the battle for thekey town that borders to your recollection continues. kurdish forces have prevented isil from cutting off supply lines. they fought off the assault and have pushed isil fighters back with the help of u.s.-led airstrikes. they have held the town after weeks of fierce fighting. but isil still controls about one third of kobane. for that reason, the leader of syria's kurds told al jazeera, they need more help to fight isil. he says his party is willing to share party with the political rivals. as zheda hoda reports.

in the conflict could depend upon a political deal between arrival faxes who are tied to competing region nam powers. what has become clear is that the pyd will have to make concessions before the weapons it wants start to pour in. zhena hoda. >> the kurds may be asking for weapons, but the turks are saying, don't ask us to support terrorists. >> reporter: it is a reminder of how turkey views the kurds fighting in kobane. reminded reporters on a flight back from afghanistan it was his belief the kurds fighting in kobane are terrorists. >> that's what he calls them because he sees them as alies of the cardstan workers party, the party that turkey has been fighting a 30-odd-year-old conflict.

turkey does not want to supply weapons to the kurds in kobane. it's unlikely it's going to do so. it will and has been doing, providing humanitarian assistance to kurds who fled kobane. more than 180,000 -- excuse me, 180,000 of them being housed here in the surrounding areas. in addition t makes a total of, by the way, one and a half million syrian refugees in turkey. >> given what you are saying, that probably means a lot more nights of heavy fighting to come like we saw last night? ? >> /* sglr it was one of the heavyiest nights of fighting so far in kobane. there were lots of street battles, building to building fighting but there remains after a couple of days something of a stalemate, the airstrikes have helped. they are not enough to push isil out of the town. they still control about 30% of

oil, money, recruitment of fighters. can be defeated without addressing that chaos in syria? >> in the long-term, it can't be without addressing the strategy where turkey is also rules where fighters are joining isil. there needs to be an effort to reradical eyes the fighters. there also needs to be efforts to we might need more protection of ground troops on ground. however, at the end of the day, a fight against isil will take

sheltered and that this is a transition to a more settled camp situation. >> yemen's new prime minister has met with the country's president in sanaa. he was appointed to a top job last week. he was in new york where he was serving as yemen's ambassador to the u.n. there has been continued fighting in the country and demonstrations against the advance of houthi rebels from the north. joining us live from the yemeni capitol, how is the prime minister getting on with the job of trying to put together the next government? >> well, he's facing a difficult task. he needs to please all of the warring factors and all of the complexities in this country under the peace deal brokered by the u.n. last month, the new prime minister needs to consult

with at least four political blocs. each is made of a number of political parties. each party has itsina fillations and agendas. so, it's extremely difficult job, sami. >> omar, what about that peace deal which was announced? is that holding? we are hearing reports of fighting around the country. >> with regards to the understanding is that they breached an initial cease-fire -- they have reached an initial cease-fire agreement and there are trying to pan out the details of the agreement. >> agreement does not include the withdrawal of the houthi fighters from it and that is a key demand for the tribal leaders there. the houthis on the other hand went on to pursue their enemies. they destroyed the house that belongs to a prominent tribal

killed. thousands of civilians have fled the violence. let's go now live to tripoli, al jazeera's narsala bed ri joins us. first of all, give us an assessment, an idea of what civilians are facing. we have had pleas from humanitarian organizations the western side, the western mountain side of tripoli about 120, 150 kilometers from the capitol, tripoli in really, really they are facing anonslaught. two cities have come under chef shelling from the forces allied to the city over the last few days. the number of casualties has been increasing. so far, we are talking about over 100 dead and over 200

people actually have been injured. many of them actually have vacated their homes and moved in to the areas surrounding garian and many individuals surrounding the early on the eastern side of libya, particularly in the city of benjamghazi. many of the districts which have seen the forces loyal to the renegade general hafta and the militia of it libya have been almost completely deserted by the civilian populations which have moved to other areas and we are talking of about at least 61 dead so far according to medical sources and 45 injured. most of them in the -- within the ranks of the civilian population. a very desperate situation on the front supplying many of these. very short, very acute situations regarding the medical
