it's first set of sanctions against russia. >> hello we begin in mexico, with a gas tanker has exploded outside of a maternity hospital killing at least two people, one woman and a child. authorities fear more babies and adults are trapped in the the rubble. allen fisher has our report. >> the skill of the damage is breathtaking. this is a maternity hospital, much of the building has collapsed which was heard over large distance, a number of people have been killed more than 50 injuries many by flying glass. rescue teams are now looking for patients and staff who may be trapped in the rubble. dogs have been brought in, the biggest concern is the maternity part of the hospital where dozens of newborns were located.

sitting in the west, it is believe the tanker carried liquid gas to the hospital exploded. why, is the center of the police investigation. doctors and nurses have done what they can to help. ambulance which is normally bring injured people here have been carrying those caught up in this to other hospitals in the area this is not the first devastating gas explosion. two years ago, 25 people died in a blast on a highway to the north. and last year, three people were killed in a gas leak explosion at a shopping center in the northeast of the country. local officials have expressed their fears that the number of dead will rise here, and looking at the damage again they may be right. allen fisher al jazeera. >> all right well, we are hoping to bring you the latest from mexico city later in the program. just to remind you, at least two people are known to have died. a woman and a child. after that powerful gas

us after days of fierce fighting iraqi security forces primarily the army with interior ministries swat teams as well as militia members move through the town reading from a list of displaced people. there they took away the men after marching them for almost a kilometer they took away some of those men and shot them behind a wall. one survivor tells us he saw 13 of his neighboring dead, including schoolteachers and shop owners. it is the responsibility of the iraqi government to maintain all of it's forces. the interior minister has said it launched an investigation but he said it was still too soon to tell what happened. he promised there would be changes those villages are on

at least two people are dead after a childrens hospital in mexico city. officials fear the death toll could rise further with more adults and babies still thought to be trapped under the rubble. jordan's government says it wants proof that a pilot captured by isil is still alive. the efforts continue to negotiate a prisoner swap.

coroner. two hostages were killed and an inquest said one of them was hit by police fire. from sidney, andrew thomas reports. >> it was the dramatic end to a siege that had lasted more than 16 hours. in just a few minutes three people a hostage taker and two of it's hostages were dead. on thursday, an inquest began into how and why they died. i want to assure everyone we will do all in our power to undertake an investigation that is rigorous, independent and searching. it will strive to establish what happened, why it happened and whether it could have been prevented or responded to. >> the siege began mid-morning. he pull as gun on customers and staff. police quickly surrounded the coffee shop, after the center went into lock down.

racially have sus horrifying events unfolded. police were beginning their investigation, 40 officers had been working on it ever since. the coroner will question them the police and hostages who survived, but even on it's opening day the coroner was able to say how the gunman and two of the hostages died. tori johnson was killed be i the gunman, made to kneel and then shot in the head as police stormed the cafe, they fired 22 shots. but a hostage was also hit. she was struck by six fragments of a police bullet or bullets, which ricocheted from hard surfaces into her body i have not detailed the damage done do her other than to say that one fragment struck a major blood vessel, she lost consciousness quickly, and died shortly afterwards.

well e.u. foreign ministers have agreed to extend current economic sanctions against russia. it follows the killing of 30 people in the town last week by shelling, thoughts have been carried out by russian backed separatists. now the sanctions against russia were due to expire in march, but will now continue on for another six months. the economy, of course, has already been hit by those sangs. the ruble has lost around 50% of it's value against the u.s. dollar during the past year, while inflation is up to 11%. and earlier this month the internationally fund forecast that the economy will contract by 3% this year, the president government has responded by announcing a three year plan of public spending cuts. savings from both cuts will fund a $35 billion rescue package. well the vice president of the commission warned that more action will be taken if the things in ukraine don't

commission will be looking that over the next week, on probably the 9th they will have to have made up their minds whether the list will be extended. then on february the 12th, european leaders will meet and they will probably rectify whatever decision has been made. now, the thing that people were most worries about here was to do with ask international financial system called swift which is a device essentially a system of messages whereby money can be transferred around the world, and there has been fears that it may be something that came out of this meeting would be a recommendation that russia would be cut off from swift. this would be very very damaging for the russian system, at the time, when it is going through deep trauma, and i think although there will be people that are upset that these sanctions will be going on for at least another
