>> humiliated... the child's parents say there have been disputes good evening i'm antonio mora this is al jazeera america. a tentative deal has been reached in a 9-month long labour dispute at west coast shipping ports. the break through with the dock workers and terminal operators. many ports have been impacted. labour has slowed down. among them some of the busiest, including los angeles, long beach, portland and seattle. they account for 50% of the ports importing in the u.s. much cargo has been unshipped to shore. we have the latest plus what led to the resolution.

>> the secretary was in town. they hammered out all sorts of issues. they couldn't agree on the system and the labor secretary spent the past few days working on it and negotiations with washington - something that no one wanted to deal with. the labor secretary didn't want to go back with nothing, and dragged two angry parties together. there was a lot of reason to move things forward. on the call that the labour secretary gave after the announcement, it emphasised what was happening. >> perishable fruits were rotting for days at the port.

there are interruptions. >> something we are familiar with we smoke to small, medium business, all over the industry. citrus for example, californian citrus - this year they are exporting a lot to the asia pacific - south korea china, japan, and people were not receiving goods or getting delays. it was a major impact. >> what is the next move? >> the tough thing is the backlog, the bottle neck. we know that many are docked. nothing is unloaded.

much of the country is in the bitter grip of arctic temperatures. this picture from a satellite in space says it all. those are the great lakes. 81%. lakes surfaces are frozen. here in new york city frozen water is complicating travel tugboats - they are travelling ahead of ferries, crossing the river in order to break the ice. ferry operators say the bitter cold is making the ferry's mechanisms freeze and jam. >> nicole mitchell is looking at the weather. records were breaking up and down the country. >> up and down the east coast, as far south as kee west coast. it makes it that far south.

there's warm air intruding. there's a cold lair. when you get it, you get the recipe for freezing precipitation. we are seeing ice from missouri into illinois as far south as huntsville alabama. as far south as you see it and through the state of tennessee, along with snow and rain as well. freezing weather advisories tennessee is the bulls eye for that. a lot of this will warm up. so you can say that that's great, and further to the north we'll see the freezing precipitation convert. this goes through the night, starting to switch. in the meantime tomorrow moves in to the north-east. predominant snow but precipitation along with this too as the warmer air moves further. it's warm enough that it switches to rain on the backside. there's a little temperature

high. what is missing from the videos are the risks involved. >> 3. 2. 1. fire. >> reporter: zack from a g.i. engineers demonstrated the dangers. >> when they introduce the butane through the extraction tube. it acts as a solvent, scrubbing the oils out of marijuana. when it comes in contact with an ignition source it does one thing. >> the government can't stop people from processing marijuana. >> three people are being defended by this man, who says amendment 64 the law that legalizes pot gives users every right to manufacture hash oil, despite the risks. >> are there inherent dangers here? >> i mean, whether it's dangerous or not is not the question. the question is whether the government should try to print

a lesbian couple in detroit. they say a fizz in refused to treat their daughter. bisi onile-ere reports that that sparks a debate over gay rights and when doctors can say no. before their baby was born this couple thought they chose the perfect paediatrician. they gave birth, but were blindsided when they went to the paediatrician paediatrician's office. >> we went from humiliated to shocked to defeated to anger. >> they say one of the doctors told them that the paediatrician they chose, dr vesna, decided she couldn't treat the newborn because they are lesbians. >> something like this shouldn't happen. we didn't see it coming. it shouldn't happen. >> roy, as pead prirn --
