secretary ban ki-moon. he's been addressing the arab league summit in sharm elshake. before him. the egyptian president abdul fatah al-sisi, saudi arabia king. the yemeni president outspoken about the ongoing events in his country, the saudi arabian air strikes. he seemed to put out a call for the military intervention to continue until there's a resolution in his country. let's bring in the professor of middle east at qatar university and joins us live. we didn't expect yemen do dominate, but they eventually got there. seems they are united in condemning what happened in the country. what stood out for you. >> i have heard basically a different priority from each
7:05 am
leader. if we start with abdul fatah al-sisi, that he was pushing towards a suggestion of having an arab force and pushing to that. if we look at the speech we focus on what is being done now. this is internationally supported and will continue. abd-rabbu mansour hadi was clear. he sent three clear messages. one is about what happened, based on what houthis had done. it's justified and yemenis were waiting to see that houthis prevented that and he was saying that you know, he was pushed to take that decision and ask for support. it was a strong message. the second message were prime minister abd-rabbu mansour hadi, to the military to the - you know to the military in yemen,
7:06 am
that you have to go back and play your role. you were in a way negative in the last few months you should come back and the third message was to the public of yemen, and he was saying this is my platform to speak to the yemeni people saying that you are to fight with those supporting legitimate president, those houthis, that was, i think, benefitting from the platform that he is in. looking at the speech of emir of kuwait, he was repeating the same topics however, what actually was interesting to me was the description about arab spring and how it brought instability. that was a strong statement that, you know - if you link this with who abdul fatah
7:07 am
al-sisi was staying, it tells you the priorities. the priorities in the summit is going back to the traditional tools, which is military sol tarian way of governing, rather than promoting democracy, and the term spreading after the arab spring, it hijacked by the phobia of extremism and terrorism which we saw a lot of focus on abdul fatah al-sisi and other leaders basically, because he see it as a threat to security of all countries in the renal job, of course iran was not mentioned by name but there was a strong message that what happened would not happen with outsiders. they said this is the time you know, that they have and to have strong action.
7:08 am
>> let's pib -- pick up on what the yemeni president said. >> i have been besieged for two months. i with the combination of honest men of yemen, i was able to exit sanaa and rest in aden exercising local authority as president to steer our country away from a civil war. then we decided to shift the capital into the economic capital of aden in order to exercise the state authority and functions. i am adamant to continue to exercise my authorities as the president. i call on call the yemeni people to back and support the legitimate authority of yemen, and the states and institutions
7:09 am
and to join forces to stand up to those militia to take to the streets and peacefully demonstrate at suppressing free will. >> we know that saudi arabia said that riyadh will open the door to yemen for all parties to try to bring some sort of resolution. >> yes. i think there is a roadmap for the security council in the last two days. ban ki-moon mentioned that there is a solution now. it will be discussed now by monday. they are clear that they would have the - would go back to the g.c.c. initiative and try to have a direct dialogue about what is the future of yemen. with all yemenis, including houthis. that is clear. >> what also was interesting the politics at play at the summit. and who was there. the mayor of qatar.
7:10 am
obviously ... >> i think it was an opportunity for egypt to present itself as the leader of - i think that was the speech of abdul fatah al-sisi was directed formally in that giving advice the egyptian leadership does well. it represents or reduces as the leader of the arab world. >> good to have you here. thank you for that. we'll stay with yemen. saudi special forces are evacuating arab documents, houthi fighters are advancing to the city. despite a third night of air strikes targetting positions. saudi arabia-led positions are hitting areas in sanaa. the u.n. is evacuating staff. missile brigades in the capital

and tribes. salah is considered as the main orchestrator, but he is calling for dialogue and released a statement though an aid. >> we propose the following initiative. first, stop the saudi-led campaign coinciding with the military operations by the houthi movements and a return to the negotiating table under the u.n. the dialogue should be moved to the u.a.e. that call could be a little late. they signed a u.n.-backed peace and partnership on the same day. many accused the group of backtracking on the deals they have signed. the houthis showing many signs of being open to dialogue. houthi controlled television is showing pictures celebrating

7:16 am
aspecting. you are live on al jazeera. what are you expecting from your next. >> i'm expecting two things. first, security. in the south, these people they are doing everything. they need to protect the borders. that's the main thing. many are guilty in nigeria. we want the issue looked at. that is the issue i want looked into. >> reporter: let's speak to some ladies. you have been here for hours. >> yes. >> reporter: you are keen to cast your ballot.
7:17 am
what are the major challenges facing the next leader? >> one of the challenges is corruption. our system is so corrupt. he has to be able to stand his photo against corruption. a newborn child in nige your nose corruption. it's bad. the next that's what he face corruption. he has to stand against corruption. if he don't do that everything is in place. eel face the issue of corruption - it is everything, the power, and jobs. there's corruption you breathe corruption. that's one. challenges i find. >> thank you so much. we wish you well. you heard directly there. security, unemployment corruption, these are the major problems, and they want to

7:20 am
ticking. the deadline on tuesday, the end of the month to get a framework deal. it is important that now we are other foreign ministers arriving. we believe the german foreign minister will be ask and by the end of the weekend all of the p5+1 foreign ministers will be hear in lausanne. the foreign minister of france spoke to reporters the moment he arrived here. >> iran absolutely has a right to nuclear power for civilian purposes. as for a nuclear bomb it's a no. discussions have been long and difficult. they are pressing ahead. what is important, obviously is the content of the agreement. i also insist on the transparency of the mechanism and controls so that any agreement made is reported. >> what is at stake, and what needs to be overcome.
