antibiotic being developed by drug companies. hello, barack obama is hosting a summit of leaders in an effort to convince that the u.s. is committed to their security. despite it's efforts with iran. saudi arabia, kuwait, perron, the united arab emirates all represented at this summit. although only kuwait and qatar have. take you live now there. he is live at that summit in camp david, in maryland, there are so many issues that are going to be discussed so many issues on the table which are the key ones. >> well, certainly have an indication of where the americans want to take these talks and he is is going into

a meeting with all the heads from the tcc delegations there will be a news briefing a couple of unh meters from where i am standing. the white house press secretary will hold the daily briefing up here then exactly where these talks are going to go, but we do know they are talking about yemen and isil, they want to make sure that the saudis and others are also concentrating on isil and iraq. and most importantly, they will be talking about iran and the nuclear deal. the g.c.c. wants to seery assurance. partners in the region. barack obama said in a newspaper interview published

in -- published on thursday, that he is understands that iran is involved outside it's borders. that it is involved with hezbollah, and also in supporting bashar al asaad in syria. but he said think of how much broodier it would be if they had a nuclear weapon. so he is portraying this deal for the middle east but also particularly for the g.c.c. it is quite a difficult sell, how will we know if this has proven to be successful for obama. >> well, i think it is already slightly diminished that two heads of the state are here. he is talking to the saudi defense minister, the saudi foreign minister, so they are not insignificant but we will get a clearer indication of how things have gone, not from the statement that will be put out because we will see all the usual things,

great cooperation, the trust and respect we have heard that before, what is important is how barack obama appears in the media briefing afterwards. is he there just to get a statement, will he take questions, will he appear with someone with the g.c.c., if he is there on his own we can assume that things are not going well, if he is with someone from the g.c.c. that's putting a face on the discussions and perhaps we will get a better unctioning in the coming days when these start to brief their own local media about what happened. but this was a big gamble for barack obama he announces that the saudi king was coming, he announced that this was an important summit, and they are here, as a bit of an embarrassment for him so he has to try to get something that says look, this is a success thecc is reassures and we are pushing ahead with the talks with the iranians and the world will be a better place not a worse place, no one will be out of sorts because of what we are discussing in

a nuclear deal of iran is expected to be of the of the agenda. redses in the capitol have been able to go out to buy basic supplies after months of fighting. both the saudi led coalition and the rebels have been accused of violating the cease fire. and we are getting reports that at least one soldier has been killed in fighting between rival factions of the armed forces. it remains unclear who is in charge of the african country. after the army overthrew the president on wednesday. the death toll from this week's major aftershock has risen to 110. it lapped almost three weeks after an earthquake there killed more than 8,000 people. the disaster has left buildings across the capitol too dangerous for people to go inside. even after the earthquake, katmandu looksser rene but

some o-- >> good morning. >> taking this show on the road welcome to camp david. obviously the president has completed the first working session of the summit with our g.c.c. partners here. their working lunch is going on right now then you will have an opportunity to hear from the president a couple of times this afternoon before we wrap things up. >> in the context of that the national security advisor participated in the working session. the first one that took place this morning. and other foreign policy getting done. there's a lot of business on capitol hill so i am happy to take those questions. all right, so let's go to your questions. >> yeah. can you tell us what they discussed in the working session? specifically on iran. >> sure.

well, they will be discussing a number of issues including iran countering violent extremeism, and the regional conflicts in yemen. syria, libya. the president and his team was able to provide a update on the status of the nuclear negotiations. and we were able to have the participating of secretary kerry, secretary lou, and secretary monothese to again review the status of both the frame work that was reached and the on going negotiations of course, in discussion to the nuclear negotiations there are concerns about the destabilizing actions across the region, which touch upon security, of our partners so they will be on going discussions about what are the strategies to deal with

those actions and what are the tynes of capabilities that are necessary for our partners to provide for their security in the current regional context. >> has the final decisions on the things you talks about earlier in the week, the joint exercises and the coordination, the final decisions on those been made yet. >> yeah, it is fair to say that given the preparatory work, we have a fairly clear view of where we will be headed in terms of those issues. there will be aout state that will detail the agreements that were reached here. but, what is happening today is the leaders are able to step back, have a brad strategic discussion, that touches on all these issues make refinements as necessary, to those outcomes and as it relates to capabilities we are looking

at what we can to expedite the provision of support and capacity building to the g.c.c. in areas like missle defense maritime security, operations counter terrorism capacity, boarder security. these are the types of capabilities that i think are directly relevant to the threats across the region. to include not just destabilizing activities but also terrorist groups like isil. >> . >> what is being said during these meetings to discouraging from enganging in an arms race. what is the president saying? to address those concerns. >> well, jim, first of all the briefing on the

comprehensive deal we are pursuing, i think is fundamental to those questions and concerns. and our position is very clear, iran has had a nuclear program that has been operating for at least two decades now. they have been continuing those actions unconstrained and often without intrusive inspection, and our part is, under this agreement that we are burr suing with the iranians, that program will be rolled back and face significant limitations that it doesn't currently face, and there will be the most intrusive regime that we have ever had. in that context, we will be able to verify that iran is not using for anything but a peaceful process. and that they are abiding by the limitations that are in the deal.

in the context there would be no need to see the arm as race that would make an already volatile part of the world that much more unstable and insecure. and in fact -- >> i think the leaders -- i will let them speak to it, but i think first of all from any of these countries. they are intending to pursue what would raise concerns. we actually have cooperation with these countries. their concerns are focused on what iran is doing across the region. and their concerns have to do with whether or not even in the con tex of a nuclear deal we are still cooperating with them to

counter those destabilizing actions. >> that the nuclear deal is about a specific issue. that the nuclear weapon capability it's destabilizing actions would be that much more dangerous because they have a nuclear umbrella. therefore, we are aiming to resolve that but at the same time, our concerns will be a just as acute the day after about those other activities. >> that they will back him or support the united states over in an iran agreement. >> those questions will be addressed in both the joint statement and then we will let individual countries speak for themselves. how much the nuclear deal we

are pursuing has unprecedented transparency, and has very real and strict. i think the concern is as i said have more to do with iranian activities around the region. and the prospect of sanctions relief, which would have to be part of any deal, in the context of what iran is doing around the region. and that's the purpose for the meeting. not the only purpose but on this discussion, to discuss what are the types of assurances capabilities and strategies, that can deal with destabilizing actions in the region, just as we are also dealing with threats from terrorism and regional conflicts as well. >> and that something to gather international support. >> look, we have huge international support for this.

these are some of our closest partners in the region. we want them to understand what is in the deal, and because we are committed to their security, and because we cooperate on the security and state ability of the region, it is important for them to have an of what the deal is. and of course, we would welcome their determination that the nuclear deal can contribute to the security of the region. we need to be working together to deal with a range of other challenges as well. so the nuclear deal is a part of this, but it is only one part of a much broodier conversation. >> if the president has drawn a distinction between, as to whether he sees it as transformative, or simply a transaction.

and in other words is there a gesture towards publicly that this could open the door towards more cooperation with iran? or that they a concerned about. >> so we have been very clear, that it is the latter. this is between the united states and iran. on a range of issues it is very specific agreement. of international norms with the program. at the same time, we made clear we will still be just as concerned with the destabilizing activities support for terrorism and in fact, we will continue to have sanctions imposed for
