6:03 pm
the beginning of happiness, the beginning of hope, the beginning of a better future for young people and a binning for our beloved iran. >> i'm convinced that the political will of the iranian leadership is there to try to use this window of opportunity we have to build trust in a constructive way. we have an opportunity to show constructive engagement. >> the last sticking points resolved in this luxury hotel about the lifting of u.n. sanctions. the most controversial compromise were the decision the

restrictions could be released in five years. you could expect these will once again be the most scrutinized parts of this deal. >> the deal remains a contentious issue. john brennan has more. >> first gatherers were seen eve on the meal marking the end end end of the ramadan fest fasting. many are glad to see an end to their problems. >> every iranian will be happy. we went through a lot over the years. well i'm happy any way. >> my personal opinion is that i
6:05 pm
wish they had done this sooner, that we wouldn't have to go through all these difficulties. >> for sure it's at good feeling. removing the sanctions that have put a lot of pressure on our country, and maybe would say everything is okay. but you can see the effects of piano. >> the negotiations dragged on for a research. they consider the nuclear activity as a right. their position has been endorsed by iran's stream supreme leader. he praised the endeavors of the team in vienna. when he ran for president in 2013, rouhani vowed to bring
6:06 pm
an end to the sanctions that were hurting the people. he also promised not to crumble in the face of demands. it has the support from the very top. as with any major political decision in this country nothing goes ahead without the approval of the scream leader. >> i think they will stick to it because they will see that this deal is--is a success. it is not something that is bad. iran traded transparentcy for sanction relief. and that is fair and in general opinion in iran. >> it's chief negotiator conceded this was not a perfect deal but iran managed to maintain its position as a tough negotiating partner and help its economy in the process.
6:07 pm
paul brennon al jazeera. >> well, u.s. pratt barack obama is making his case to the american people that he got the best deal possible with iran. but he has to convince progress to go along with it. patty culhane reports. >> americans woke up to an unusual. address for the public and sending a warning to the long. >> this is not the time for politics. tough talk from congress does not solve problems. hillary clinton who is running for president endorsed the deal. >> this is putting a lid on iran's nuclear program.

>> but republicans intend to put up a fight. >> we're going to hand over a dangerous regime this is not about democrats or republicans. it's not a partisan issue at all. it's about right versus wrong. >> the government lobby in washington is expected to push very hard in congress against the deal and the scheduled lifting of u.s. sanctions. but they admit that it's going to be very difficult to scuttle this landmark agreement. >> it would be a transform pot ing it's a very big entry in president obama's legacy book. >> a win for the president's bigcy. now he just has to convince the
6:09 pm
congress that it's a win for him as well. >> let's cross lines to capitol hill in washington, d.c. what can the u.k. do to block this deal? >> well, they can plain. this is an employer deal international deal. this congress can't stop president obama from going to the u.n. security council and instructing his ambassador to go to the resolution, and they can't stop the rest of the world and so on. but what they can do is talk a great deal about whether this is the in the best interest of the u.s. when does the 60-day period begin. it begins officially where all
6:10 pm
the details officially are briefed. then they're likely to pass a vote of disapproval. they can pass the simple majority, that's when it becomes a little more complicated. the president said that he'll veto that. that's when things get more difficult. in order to override the presidential veto there needs to be two-thirds support to do so in both the house of representatives and the senate, and that looks a bit difficult. interestingly, we just heard about hillary clinton's comments about how she supported the deal. that's going to go a long way in the democratic party to remember having said that in the last hour we've had interesting comments, and we're
6:11 pm
trying to if you go out whether that means there might be some debait about the hard line. but that has yet to be scene. but certainly right now the consensus is that it's very difficult for republickens, hawks, for that matter. and all they can do is u.s.-unilateral sanctions as the rest of the world opens up. this has been described as a historic mistake. how might israeli opposition play into the reaction from the u.s. congress? >> this knee jerk is not really working.
6:12 pm
there is a powerful lobbies here on capital hill, but even they have statements where they say look, we have concerns. but let's go through the review period and see what is actually in the field. right now it's interesting. it may not be so much the israeli lobby but the commercial lobby here in the u.s. >> thank you. >> well, the u.s. president has been on the phone with israel's prime minister trying to reassure him that the agreement will not endanger israel's national security. we have more on that now from west jerusalem. >> hours before iran's nuclear deal with global powers was formerly announceed. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu made a televised statement denouncing the agreement.
6:13 pm
>> this is a bad mistake of historic for portions. >> he made a statement later on in the day after reviewing the deal and his criticisms were even more pointed. >> the world is a more dangerous place today than it was yesterday. >> net hadnetanyahu is under pressure by those at home who blame him for preventing the deal. >> obama is going to be president. no one knows who is going to be the president. there could be two or three presidents who can embrace each other. >> now they're trying to get all this money and they're going
6:14 pm
fund even more terrorism. it has made everything so bad. >> iran, just like north korea cannot be trusted. i hope that the u.s. congress, the house of representatives and the senate will go over this agreement very carefully. >> the united states congress has 60 days to review the agreement. netanyahu will use that time to pressure his allies in the republican and democrats parties to reject them. but president obama has already said that he would veto any bill that would block the deal. the agreement between iran and global global powers, applications across the spectrum have criticized the deal saying any kind of nuclear program poses an extension existential

to 8% in the coming years to match the growth of the economies during the boon years. now a former iranian diplomat who joins me in studio. thank you very much for coming to speak to us. what could this deal potentially mean for iran's economy and for iranian businesses? >> well, i think it opens up a whole new host of opportunities. iran has the potential to become an economy like china. it is hat potential to become the top 10-15 leading economic leaders in the world in 10-15 years time because of the potential of the country which has been subdued and disregarded because of various problems.

the pension is use. the right decisions have to be taken. the government has to stick with these policies, which has initiated in the course of the last two years. stay away from the kinds of policies that has been pursued before by ahmadinejad and so on, and essentially follow this line. >> what about the immediate challenges facing iran? could this create problems between iran and it's names neighbors? >> i think this deal could be used as a way to resolve differences with its neighbors. the tone has been generally conciliatory. but the fact that iran has legitimate rights in the region, some of which conflict with the
6:21 pm
but the fact is that there must be an interesting understanding that iran has legitimate rights to pursue those without being no one conflict with them. >> what needs to be the catalyst to bring about that recognition? could the u.s. potentially step in now? >> i think this is not something that involves western governments or should involve western governments. iran should deal directly with these countries themselves. >> do you think there is a challenge there with talks of saudi arabia? >> i think there are open channels of nations. confidence building needs to be started. positive steps need to be taken

combating isis is a mutual area that all parties have a common interest. that could be a very good start and building confidence that iran does not wish to encroach in areas. these are areas that can be discuss: i think the potential can be discussed and the potential is huge there. >> thank you very much. >> thank you. >> let's move to some of the other stories that we're covering now. in yemen the defeat for houthi fight certificates a combination of a battle in the city and lost control of aden's police headquarters. staying in that city firefighters are struggleing to extinguish a blaze at an oil refinery. local authorities have called to send in five firefighting aircraft to help put out the
