be more than that they need to translate to the ground. here in jerusalem, the tenses i have seen it and people there's no trust, no trust between people themselves on the street, there's no trust from palestinians in their poll sixes. to change anything. so we will have to wait and see what comes out of those efforts, but certainly, it is a challenge to convince the people, that anything real will effect what is going on on the ground. >> joining there is with that update, live, thank you. >> all of this is happening at the end of another day of violence, andrew simmons has been monitoring the days events and he sends us this update from bethlehem. >> right across the bank, and here a prolocked demonstration which involved four to 500, it has been

heavy here, with mas.s of tear gas being fires and at one state you can see what happened here, it was thrown through the air from this lone protestor, that manages to move around the security forces and, of course, it landed on right outside our tri-pad. and real issue was the amount of pack drowneds being fired. by the army, and they were dell, i lost count, massive amount these are basically plastic bullets and a lot of injuries were caused. a number of ambulances were in action, taking people to hospital, and the situation as i say, is which is just

announcements, i have no doubt, in terms of energy, transport, infrastructure, health, finance, quite a wide range. and it's a chance for him and quite a big team to engang with us at a lot of levels. >> but not everyone want as closer relationship. protesting outside the palace were human rights groups anxious that the u.k. is putting money before morales. >> in the last three years we assume the presidency, there's been an alarming deterioration, and already poor human rights situation, so we have seen a relentless crack down, on activists and lawyers and government critics, several hundred people were arrested some have now been released but 20 remain in custody, many don't have access to lawyers. scores have been arrested over the last few years, so a very worrying rack down in terms of political crack down. and then the on doing concerns about free expression. >> rounding off tuesday's

the historic connection to the western wall. these are the real threats to the status quo. i believe it is time to tell the truth about the causes of palestinian terrorism. it is not the settlements, it is not the peace process, it is the desire to destroy the state of israel, pure and simple. president abass has been fanning the flames, he said on september 16th just a few days ago, that he welcomes every drop of blood spilled in jerusalem. that's a quote. president abass is not condemn as single terrorist attack over the last month, and he continues to glorify terrorists. to defend effort's citizens we are not, i repeat, we are not using excessive force.
1:11 pm
the international community truly wants to help end the bloodshed and the violence, i believe it mulled affirm israels proven commitment to the status quo. and accord the hold accountable for his dangerous words. how we can restore, calm, and reconciliation, and security, that is important. that is the order of the day. i welcome you here in jerusalem. i look forward to discussions. >> mr. prime minister, thank you very much for your warm welcome. ladies and gentlemen, i thank the prime minister netanyahu for welcoming me and receiving me as such short

notice. these are difficult times for israelis and palestinians. i am hearing the hope that we can work together, to end the violence, ease the it ises and begin to restore a long term political horizon of peace. i want to afford my sympathy. allow me to express my deepest condolences to you, and the people of israel, for the killing of your citizens. i deplore the random attacks against the civilians. such terror i a tacks make every place unsafe, and every person regardless of gender or age, or potential victim. tomorrow, i plan to meet with the sum of the victims of the families of the victims of the recent violence.
1:13 pm
i understand the fear and anger held by many israelis in the current environment. as well as the duty that raise on the prime minister. to ensure that your citizens can enjoy safety and security. clearly, those attacks by vegs are not taking place in a vacuum. over the past weeks i have been deeply troubled by statements from palestinian militants groups including hamas, and islamic jihad. praising such effects. in a recent poll with the president abbas, i voiced my deep concern over instances of referee and urged all to refrain from it. i have also condemned the attacks by palestinian protestors against last week,
1:14 pm
and i welcome president abbas' condemnation of that incident. i urge the israeli government to do it's upmost to help calm the situation. i welcome the recent statement by you, mr. prime minister, and also members of your government, and rabbis the expressing israel's commitment to the preservation, of the historic status quo. at the temple mount. i look forward to discussing with you, how to uphold the status quo with the agreement between israel and jordan, and with respect to jordan's special role as custodian. i argue, mr. prime minister, to engang directly. i am going to see his maggi king of jordan on thursday.
1:15 pm
mr. prime minister, the challenges your government is currently facing raise many complicated dilemmas, and may require heightening of security measures. however, the secret measures can be counter productive if they are applied without special efforts to diffuse a situation, before people lose their lives. if the use of force is not properly calibrated it may breed the very frustrations and anxieties from which violence tends to erupt. i argue as a democratic state, as such incidents and to conduct investigations when necessary. israelis stand on the brink of the catastrophic violence. we need to keep the situation from escalating into religious conflict with
1:16 pm
potential regional implications. we must create the conditions for being in full negotiations that will end the occupation and realize the aspirations of both the peoples. the only way to end this conflict is through negotiations that produce a visible meaningful results. in the elections from either side, will only perpetuate the downward spiral. on both sides and their peoples face extremely difficult decisions on the road to peace. no one can take those decisions for them. but neither can the weight. the generation born after the peace accord, expects one peace. we cannot fail that.
1:17 pm
on the ground, mr. nikolai fully committed to walking closely with your government and all the relevant canadian fors visually and internationally. >> we have been listening in there to u.n. secretary general, he has been hosting by israeli prime minister, and they have been talking about the recent violence and how to solve it. now, we heard words of sympathy there from ban ki-moon, saying he deplored the random attacks but also urging israel to think carefully and to move carefully with the increased in security measures. what did you make of what was said there. >> i think the israeli prime minister summed it up when he said this is a touchy subject but i am looking forward to discussing it. it is an extremely sensitive
1:18 pm
issue, we made it very clear, that it is on israel that the challenging the status quo, known as the temple mount to uses that it was actually the palestinians who were in the mosque who tries to prevent uses and christians from as he put it violently, stopping them from visiting so you have a very different narrative from the israeli side to what you are hearing from the palestinians side, which is not new in this conflict at all. and just goes to show how difficult it is to solve it. interesting that said he would be meeting with king abdul la, he is, of course, jordan is the custodian of the holy site, and he urged the prime minister to meet with the king, that is something that is not on the able, that we are hearing is not a possibility that we will be meeting together even when he visits the king, very difficult to see how they can see eye to eye on this.
1:19 pm
of course, it is a push that is now underway, because the situation is so sensitive, because we are seeing measures taken here. trying to warn israel away from excessive force, some people will tell you that the measures that are taken the shoot to kill policy of palestinians who are allegedly stabbing israelis that some people will say well, do you need to shoot to kill, or just shoot to incapacitate. all these things they will say are inciting the extreme measures taken. neighborhoods quartenned off, some of them the only way to get out is to lift their shirt up, and basically have a frisk action, so it is very sensitive, and very difficult, so the more israel clamps down to maintain the security as it says there is also a backlash other people will tell you.
1:20 pm
the negotiation is the only way this is solved as we have been seeing with this occupation, now, almost 50 years half a century. in real efforts show any hope that there is real interest, a willing partner, certainly in this government to make it happen. >> joining me live, thank you. >> canada's liberal party has swept to power, it's leader 43-year-old is set to follow his father in the minister. opinion polls has shown that the liberals were on track to win, but not by such a big majority, reports now from toronto. it is a new era, the liberal party led by justin is won a

majority. he began the campaign in third place in the opinion polls but as the days and weeks went by, the party support climbs steadily. canadians from across this country, sent a clear message tonight, it is time for a change in this country, my friends, a real change. who first came to power in 2006, a towering figure on the right wing of canadian politics harper has cut government taxes and emphasized national security. he also as been increasingly controversy, resign as conservative leader in the coming days. >> for the 42nd time, in 148 years canadians have chosen a national parliament, well tonight's result is not the one we had hoped for.
1:22 pm
dropping seats and down to third place, voters wanted change. and they wanted the liberals to lead them there. >> he reminds us how volatile it has become. from my perspective when the campaign began is that three parties all hovering around 30%. they didn't budge, the liberals went up 12 or 13%, it dropped 12 or 13% that was the difference, because the election was built around the main issue, whether people wanted to keep the government or not, we had strategic voting on the scale. so justin has exceeded expectations and will now govern with a strong expectation, but the same remain, low oil prices a weakening economy, and an uncertain international scene. toronto.
