center of this city that if you go to the outskirts you will cease. vanished last seen you talk to people you don't necessarily want to see we talked to some of them and this is what they had to say this isn't about you and i lived here for sixty years of course they love catalonia it's where my children are where my family lives but there's no reason why we have problems with this obsession. if i am catalunya and i don't think like the secessionist to know that i'm from the outside but then when i go to my family home then i'm also from the outside so where am i from and what identity do i have. firstly i'm from the town of high and then i'm on the loo theon finally i'm spanish. now that is what you hear outside in town in some of these neighborhoods but here in the center of barcelona there is really very little debate going on at all and

where we're seeing surprising number of people come to the polls now the catalonia government says that seventy two percent of polls remain open the spanish government says it's more like fifty percent but it doesn't really matter because they've pulled a particular kind of a neat trick here and normally what happens is when you go to a polling system when you go to a polling station you're only you're one of the people in that neighborhood who are registered to be there and they only have a list of those people well one of the things that they did here was ensure that each polling booth had a list of all of the voters so if your polling place is closed you can simply go to another one and vote so the fact that seventy percent or fifty percent of the polling places are open and yours isn't it does not mean you cannot vote and people have been enthusiastic about coming out and they have been enthusiastic about telling us that they're voting yes john what about the people we saw a few moments ago who are against this referendum in the first place i'll they going to bomb the photo they're going to come out and register their no vote.

adrian most of those people that we have talked to have said they are not coming to vote they are boycotting this election if you're seeing people stand behind me right now that's because word is gone out that the police are coming here right now we don't see them yet but they are now is made every once in a while it hasn't always come to pass not at this station in any case but there are plenty of people who oppose sanction but those people generally have boycotted this election and there's also a sense of intimidation john to be able to say that there is such enthusiasm here certainly in the center of barcelona which is you know the biggest city in catalonia that people feel a little intimidated some of the you heard some of that in the voices of the people who just lamb so it's certainly mixed but there are surprisingly large numbers of
