together watching what is a massive crime scene the shooter we now know was on the thirty second floor of a hotel and there were thousands of people attending the concert below we know from sheriff reports that there were at least ten rifles found in the room the shooter killing himself when police reached that room but trying to understand what those motivations are now we did get a statement from the acting secretary of homeland security elaine do with reports in fact that there is no information in her words to indicate a specific credible threat with regard to public venues but having said all of this we do know from that statement by the homeland security acting secretary that the united states is stepping up security and other public spaces across the country as a precaution but at this time there is no according to her statement a conclusive evidence that there was a specific threat still trying to understand what motivated the sixty four year old gunman to first fire on the crowd below and then himself again as you say no strong
6:01 pm
no strong lead yet now as to why he could have done this so we will be waiting for more information on that but let me ask you about a woman or a companion about was also named as a person of interest in this. indeed there was a companion that was for many hours in the preliminary phases of this investigation companion of steven had ics who in fact was of interest to police but what we now know is that suspect that woman has been ruled out as a person of interest as a suspect apparently the gunman using her i.d. perhaps to read the hotel room a room we know he was in from september twenty eighth and onward not clear if he allowed any of the sort of the housekeeping staff to come into that room that would have perhaps signaled something was imminent but we do know from police now that
6:02 pm
that woman that companion has been ruled out as a suspect but again this is going to take a long time to piece together las vegas is a very busy place there was a lot of hotel rooms to look through a big hotel and a lot of crowds and a lot of this crime scene now contained lockdown as investigators try to piece together very slowly carefully how this occurred what went wrong and move forward from there ok kimberly reliever for the time being we thank you very much for that update from washington let's look at nevada for a moment specifically that's the state where this attack happened it has some of the most relaxed gun laws in the u.s. so it's state constitution gives every citizen the right to keep and bear arms for security and defense as well as for a lawful hunting and recreational use it allows people to buy a gun rifle shotgun or handgun all without a permit automatic assault weapons and machine guns are also legal as long as they're registered let's bring in our social media producer under chappelle online
6:03 pm
platforms played a huge part in breaking the story down andrew and now the conversation has turned to gun control and the way the story is being reported tell us how it's being reported in fact old arena didn't take long at all for two topics of conversation to trend firstly terror. prism craig is one person many others are asking why the shooter isn't being called a terrorist by officials or by the media it's being described as a shooting he wonders why stephen paddick is being described as a shooter wonders why calling it a double standard and inevitably perhaps gun control is also a major sub thread through this online discussion writer shawn king is one of many people who say these weapons of war should be banned there are calls to for caution many people saying we just need to grieve and then save the debate for later kimberly tweeted that the terror in las vegas just occurred don't politicize it time will come later for debate lots of pushback to that kind of sentiment online
6:04 pm
with many saying it's the perfect time for debate about gun control apart from these discussions we've been working all day to sift fact from fiction as fake news stories are everywhere one that had a lot of shares and retreats emerged before the attackers identity was actually revealed by police hundreds of people shared this image saying that it was the man he's not of course this is samuel hyde a comedian and actor whose face appears in a lot of memes you might have seen his image has also been used by four chan trolls to falsely connect him to a dozen other shootings and attacks in san bernardino and is also rather the munich shooting in germany and other fake stories involve missing people this image has hundreds of shares you can see here two different accounts created in the past month with the same wording saying their dad is missing when actually this is an adult film actor named johnny sins and he's not missing in the original suites you
6:05 pm
can actually see that the two accounts are actually congratulating one another for this trick one says did pretty well boss in the other replies it did referring to the posts hundreds of rates wheat so if you want to avoid falling for these kinds of fake news trolls make sure to keep watching the official channels like the official. account for a police or fire department this is the las vegas police department here and if you want to know if if a picture is fake try reverse google image search ing and if you still have doubt simply don't share keep sending us your thoughts on the attacks in las vegas you can tweet me directly i'm at enter chapelle or disease that has tagged a newsgroup and you think you will speak to martin reardon his vice president of the soufan group and a twenty year veteran of the us federal bureau of investigation or the f.b.i. he's joining us here on the set thanks for being with us martin i want to break down the two issues that andrew was talking about in fact those are the conversations that are going on online one is the issue of terrorism and the other is the issue of gun control so if we look at terrorism for just a moment the sheriff who has appeared and is giving updates about the investigation
6:06 pm
says that a motive has to be established before they can classify the las vegas shooting as it's a mistake terrorism so they're not ruling it out is a terrorism in your opinion too early to tell just what the sheriff said terrorism by law in the united states has to meet certain criteria basically it has to be the use of violence or the threat of violence to cause some political or social change force in the government to make some change right now we don't know what the motive is it could have been he was angry at the world it could have been a family dispute a business dispute it could be a lot of things and he took out his anger so too early to tell at this point and that is the point we are waiting to find out what the motivation is so how is that going to be well to be very key and again i could is turned you know was it an act of terrorism whether it's domestic or international terrorism but also you know if it wasn't what was the region and this is going to be done through a number of interviews with family members with associates friends people that he
6:07 pm
lives with your neighbors of thorough interview and also looking at his at his telephone you know particular text messages sent and received was there any any connection before hand so what sort of planning would have gone into carrying out this horrific mass shooting horrific mass shooting but not a lot of planning this was what experts were what what kind of terrorism this would call a simple attack very unsophisticated the most difficult part was getting ten or so weapons up the elevator into his room. on the issue of gun control. you know after incidents such as these after mass shootings that we've seen in the states there's always an outpouring of grief and rightly so after these happened but there doesn't really seem to be any movement when it comes to the issue of gun control if things think congress is this time any different we'll see but if you look at previous shootings that were not at the numbers of fifty but a few dozen of forty nine no changes for there. the gun lobby united states is very
6:08 pm
powerful and they have a lot of sway in congress and that's going to stop any sort of. gun control if you look at others by some estimates more than three hundred million guns in the united states that's almost one for every man woman and child all right martin stay with us for just a second because i just want to have a listen to some of what the u.s. president donald trump had to say about the attacks that happened about ten minutes ago listen my fellow americans we are joined together today in said miss shock and grief last night a gunman opened fire on a large crowd at a country music concert in las vegas nevada he brutally murdered more than fifty people and wounded hundreds more it was an act of pure evil the f.b.i.
6:09 pm
and the department of homeland security are working closely with local authorities to assist with the investigation and they will provide updates as to the investigation and how it develops i want to thank the las vegas metropolitan police department and all of the first responders for their courageous efforts and for helping to save the lives of so many. the speed with which they acted is miraculous and prevented further loss of life. to have found the shooter so quickly after the first shots were fired is something for which we will always be thankful and grateful it shows what true professionalism is all about hundreds of our fellow citizens are now mourning
6:10 pm
the sudden loss of a loved one a parent a child a brother or sister we cannot fathom their pain we cannot imagine their loss to the families of the victims we are praying for you and we are here for you and we ask god to help see you through this very dark period so that was trump speaking just a short time ago what did you make of what he had to say your reaction one of the few things when he said the right things sympathy for the families there are certainly untold numbers of people and their families will be affected by this also about the questions financed by police and really determine that what floor he was on in getting up there quickly quil been a lot worse but also important is what he didn't say he did not classify this as an act of terrorism and that's important because we don't know enough yet you don't want people jumping to conclusions. a lot of viewer comments coming to us on
6:11 pm
facebook right now adam asking this evil attack which is in fact how trump categorize that he said this is an act of pure evil so adam wanting to know from you this evil attack on innocent lives in las vegas is extremists off what we don't know of the extremists yet again it's streamers you're talking about eighty ology this may have nothing to do with idiology it could be an anger at the world anger at the concert goers or it could be a number of things but it doesn't necessarily to extremism and say extremism because we don't know there was an ideology involved what is the stage that invest in the investigation would be out right now and the right now it's that it is a crime scene and that a final weapons were they legal weapons were the illegal weapons were they his or did he get them from somebody else or where the weapons come from how did he get everything up there any good not too complicated you can put them in different cases that don't look like weapons and bring them up but very important to attempt to find people that always associates family members associates people that he
6:12 pm
worked with that may give some clue as to what was taking in his mind so and we also know when i put the security in fact that there was a a companion or some sort of female that was mentioned as a person of interest are you hearing anything about that only what's what's going on the news is that they have located her and it appears at this point that he may have used for her i.d. or her credit card to get the room that she may have had no knowledge but again what she says will be important what was he thinking in these these days before the actual attack all right martin riordan we thank you very much for joining us on the news grid will cross over to las vegas now we'll speak so when we see reporter jay gray he's joining us from there to tell us whether police are releasing any more detail on the shooter as of now. here's what we know as far as the investigation is concerned right now more weapons have been found inside his home in mosquita nevada which is about an hour and
6:13 pm
a half two hours from las vegas we also know that ten weapons were found inside that tell room where he apparently carried out this horrific attack we know that two cars have been seized and that they are poor in through those vehicles as well and that companion that you talked about that person of interest we have been told by los vegas police they did talk to this woman that she's out of the country actually and they don't believe she was in any way involved with what happened here where along the famed vegas strip you can see it's lockdown here there's traffic coming by this way but no one getting in and out or out of the area where this all occurred and i would imagine that it's going to be that way for quite some time this is going to be an intense investigation the f.b.i. as well as state and local police all involved right now in trying to determine how and why all of this happened at this point no indication of a motive and officers tell us that it could be some time before they have any clues as to what led to this attack all right jay i'm sure we'll be checking back with
6:14 pm
you as and when you get more information but for the time being just tell us how what people there have been telling you i'm sure you've been speaking to people in las vegas what is the move there. stan a lot of people still frankly in shock i've still seen even within the last hour concert goers who are still out following the attack having not been back to their hotel rooms some searching for family members or friends who got separated in the chaos some of these hotels still locked down so they can't get back inside many have been moved over to the university here in the arena there where they're trying to reunite with the folks i saw a couple covered in blood said that they had been helping after the attack another young man who talked to us from the concert said he was missing a certain city use that as a compression device to try and sell to help somebody who has been shot so i think a lot of people here in vegas still just trying to understand something that
6:15 pm
frankly may be impossible really to get your head around all right so we'll leave it there we thank you jay for speaking to us from the las vegas that's jay gray well we were talking about gun control just a moment ago with martin reread and here's a reality check by up front. the n.r.a. wasn't always anti gun control so the history behind the u.s. constitution second amendment and the politics surrounding the gun control debate may actually surprise you and you can watch mad husain explore three little known facts when it comes to the politics off those debates on al jazeera dot com and the show section and click on up front then reality check. now let's move away from las vegas for a second and take you to the gaza strip because it's the most ambitious attempt in years to bring rival palestinian political factions have mass and fatah together again the palestinian prime minister and. he led a delegation to gaza from the occupied west bank declaring that the only way to
6:16 pm
statehood is through unity hamas which has run gaza since a two thousand and seven civil war has offered to turn all administrative responsibilities over to the law but some sticking points remain very fossa joining us from gaza city and i suppose the sticking point terry might become clearer as we keep an eye out on that cabinet meeting that's taking place to morrow tell us what we expect there. well that's right this today was the arrival it was this extraordinarily warm welcome both from the public who gathered at the area's crossing the gaza side of the crossing with israel mainly young men and teenage boys some families as well to greet the delegation from ramallah and so the the atmosphere has been very positive but as you say tomorrow is when things really start getting down to brass tacks that will be the first cabinet meeting even that though there is some theater about that that is the first cabinet meeting it is an
6:17 pm
assertion of the the re assumption of power by the unity government by the palestinian authority here in gaza and all the attempts that have happened between two thousand and seven when the split began between the two rival factions fatah and hamas that of ended in failure this is really a big symbolic moment the questions really come further down the line because there are some easy things they can do ministerial handovers trying potentially to they have the power to lift the restrictions which have been so hurting the gazans here on top of the economic problems caused by the israeli and egyptian blockade but then come the questions about exactly how security will be reintegrated that's something that hamas has been in control of internally here in the gaza strip using its own personnel the gradual reintroduction of p.a. personnel into that process will be one thing more widely will the reintroduction of tens of thousands of palestinian authority staff will that displace the tens of
6:18 pm
thousands of hamas people who've been doing their jobs in the intervening period that has to be worked out and then there's the whole question of hamas' military wing the brigades hamas is saying that they were never on the table for discussion in this egypt back process which is brought us this far will the palestinian authority allow hamas to have that very influential powerful militarily and political body outside its control in the months and years going forward that something else that has yet to be resolved and will have to be if this is going to stick what about the people in gaza are they hopeful that first of all this is going to stick and then this is going to improve their lives they've suffered so much under the israeli blockade. yes so far the people we speak into are hopeful there was i think a fair bit of skepticism when this was first announced by hamas last month but now we have this big event and this this show that really the p.a.
6:19 pm
is back here so people are hopeful of in the short term two things one the the additional p.a. restrictions on top of the israeli and egyptian blockade will now be lifted they have yet to do that despite the positive mood music so far restrictions to staff salaries and more importantly for many people here the restrictions to electricity supply so that's one thing they want to happen immediately and then in the in the more medium term there is so many especially young people here without jobs it's a very highly educated population many graduates who get through the wall that education to find that there is no viable economy to give them employment so they want to see that really fixed as quickly as possible fatah has been making promises to that to that extent and also one dollar himself said that he would focus on the lifting young people's lives in his initial news conference at the erez crossing now they have to live up to some of those promises ok perry fossett thank you and
6:20 pm
what's the reaction to how the last visit. well lots of people were there to welcome prime palestinian prime minister as harry was saying and many people have been sharing images like the of his arrival and some of the really big crowds that awaited him there were hundreds of children there young people who were cheering as harry said earlier in the day and there was a there's a journalist who shared some images of some of the signs that they were carrying which i think is important because these young people were waving egyptian flags and images of presidents of the. egypt egypt of course of course has been mediating between the palestinian factions now others are stepping images like these in arabic this says yes to. conciliation and many people are using a similar hash tag which is palestinian reconciliation they're sharing editorial cartoons and other ways of expressing their thoughts like this one which shows a palestinian delegation carrying suitcases towards
6:21 pm
a broken welcome sign of gaza now those suitcases full of files labeled crossings government employees electricity all the things that gaza needs to be administered now much of the reaction seems to be that of cautious optimism jason in gaza says here you can see what he says that's there are many people who remain apprehensive knowing that there are some thorny issues to work through we've been speaking to other residents of the gaza strip who shared their views. finally the government is engulfed. optimistic and they are willing that the next meeting of the government which is going to be held. tuesday what part of the measures that have been talk against gaza and also think that the reconciliation between father and hamas won't positively affect the political and economical
6:22 pm
situation in gaza and. today that you can solution for men test brought happiness and joy to many of gazans people. of more than ten years hope that the new situation which would bring results. when the people of gaza have a lot of expectations from this government they have high hopes for this unity government and expecting them to solve the many issues they've had to endure for many years the problem lecture city salaries have them in paid in the closed border crossings these issues can be solved because of the division i hope that the steps implement the reconsideration will not take too long especially as the people of gaza have really suffered for more than ten years and we've heard from them that we also want to hear from you so tell us what you think about the prospects for palestinian reconciliation and what this visit might mean for the people of gaza you can tweet us your views using the hash tag well one view we will get now is
6:23 pm
from. a columnist with a lot of our joining us via skype from amman thanks for speaking to us what makes this reconciliation efforts if you can call it that's what will make it stick. what makes it stick if they carry through the promises of people people want better electricity more hours they want the borders to be open and they wanted jobs for their young people the problem is that we had two governments two laws to tax collection fees and now hopefully we'll have one unified situation so i think there is good chances for this reconciliation here's the thing though when it there are still many contentious issues for example there is the issue of security because we understand that hamas will retain its authority over security in the gaza strip but we also know that the palestinian authority cooperates with israel when it comes to security related matters so can this obstacle be overcome while the tea i think is
6:24 pm
going to be what will happen in terms of the elections we need to have elections to give genuine legitimacy to the governing power i think the security issue can be restrained once there is a mandate for those who are ruling right now you cannot have the rule by the gun you have to have the rule by the will of the people and you can only do that if you have genuine elections what do you expect to come out of tomorrow's cabinet meeting then. well i think they will. put lot more money and effort into increasing the number of hours of electricity from four hours to between ten and twelve hours i think they were unleashed an agreement on handing over the border crossings from the hamas control of the security people to the presidential guard this would allow egypt to lift the siege on gaza and people can go back and forth between gaza and egypt then of course the thorny issue is the employment because how mass employed about fifty thousand people of its own members and to have these people in the in
6:25 pm
merged into the public service means a huge increase in the budget so they have to find a solution to weed out some of these people and laos them in but not take all of them let's look at israel for just a moment because it's been very quiet whereas in the past it has condemned reconciliation efforts so will that have an effect on the prospects at all well two days ago the court had and the u.s. government although the u.s. is part of the court that issued a very strong statement saying we call for the reunification of guys in the west bank and everything needs to be done to improve the situation of gaza so i think the sign in the signal from the u.s. and from the rest of the world was very clear and i think the israelis have taken a decision to keep out of this a reconciliation because if things keep going the way they were going guys that there is going to be an explosion and israel would have had to really pay a price for that so i think they understand that the international community will
6:26 pm
be supporting unity and palestinians want unity so i think they took their wise decision of staying out of this one who has more to gain here is that hamas or. fatah. i think the people of gaza have the most to gain because they're the ones who have been suffering i think clearly about the military but in terms of a political party though i understand i understand it's clear that hamas basically surrendered to fight that i mean there is there their acceptance of all the conditions by that that is a clear sign that it is a victory or at least short term victory for a fight the question is what will happen when there is elections because if that is not part of that than if he aligned himself with hamas they might come out victorious and then and so it's not clear but i think for the time being on the short term it looks like effected three ok thank you very much for speaking to us from. well if you're watching us on facebook for our facebook viewers in just
6:27 pm
a moment what you'll see is will take a look at how canadians are welcoming so-called u.s. refugees and coming up in just a moment on the news grid crackdown in cameroon soldiers should dead protesters calling for independence back in a minute. hello there we're seeing a fair amount of rain over turkey at the moment it's showing up fairly clearly on the satellite picture you can see the cloud is gradually drifting its way towards the east so heavy rain over the northern parts of turkey then also working its way over parts of azerbaijan as well and slowly that system is drifting its way towards kazakstan without marty seeing a fair amount of snow over the mountains so that's the way things will continue as we head through the next few days you also see the winds are feeding down from the north of the temperatures here are likely to be dropping away as we head through
6:28 pm
the next couple of days but further towards south and here in doha no major change for us over the next few days the temperatures still hovering at around thirty eight or thirty nine degrees so still feeling hot but not quite as hot as it has been over the summer it does feel like things have changed finally inside all of that will get to around thirty one degrees and here there's a little bit less more easter in the ass of the temperatures are getting a little bit higher the further towards the south you see plenty of cloud showing up on the satellite picture but it's gradually fizzling out now and it's looking more or less clear force as we head through the next few days so just the old cloud perhaps bubbling up with plenty of sunshine and barely any rain to talk to was the southwest you can see it would be more in the way of gray weather working its way towards cape town we may see the or shower here. with.

great city does that we offer a safe place this is a crazed lunatic full of hate we don't know much about his background but it certainly is not an extension of what we believe in what everybody who lives here and works here and those who visit here want to say this is something that was simply outrageous uncalled for and so many innocent people young people children parents who've lost loved ones and so many still suffering in the hospitals gone through major surgery we have some that were hit quite lightly with shrapnel as they were near or at the exits but it's been a hugely traumatic time for all of us and for our visitors who love country music many of whom have come from the northern part of our states here and just really came here for a wonderful safe time we pride ourselves in our law enforcement they are an equal

your thoughts and prayers but what they need is bill and it will be open to do anything we can to assist but you know i've just been hearing these stories of heroism that occurred in the midst of this tragedy you had off duty police officers who were there just for the concert for an evening of fun who were able to help people get shelter and who were able to identify the location. the shooter and just random strangers a friend of some of my staff members who lives in the district said they were running being trample some i just opened a van doren pulled them and for shelter and safety that's the kind of people we have here in las vegas who are willing to reach out and help one another and so i thank all of our law enforcement and thank the first responders those in the hospitals where people are just in the halls in the parking lot trying to take care of so many and please collar office if there is any way we can be of assistance.

object of his at some of the patients in the hospital and it's unimaginable what people are going through right now you know you've got family members who are here and don't have anyone to reach out to but the reverse responders and what they've done so finest hour their finest hour in the way that the sheriff in the metropolitan police department of handled this event is unprecedented the paramedics who came on the scene and basically what was a war zone and treated all those men women and kids the health care professionals at the hospitals the doctors who came from all over the valley. to do whatever they could and now. you know we don't understand what's happened and i'm sure we'll find out

a little more from when metro continues to do its investigation i do know for everybody watching and you know i want to thank the president united states the other governors that have reached out to me to offer their help and assistance we need blood so if anybody can contribute blood anybody in the las vegas area we're going to need this help we were going to need and this is obviously an unprecedented vent in our nation's history and we're going to have to learn from this and we'll have to fight through this we have to stop and pray for the families and for the victims we have to rely on our faith in a time like this to get us through all of it. you know i'm i couldn't be prouder of the way that nevadans have responded to this and what they've done doctors and nurses and everyone else who's worked through the night to
