there are these metrics in place there are time scales and targets and that's why this will work along with the egyptian backing where previous agreements didn't work you could also see those as opportunities for mutual trust to be undermined if those targets aren't met if things don't go according to plan on the ground people here that we've been speaking to over the last few days have been saying that obviously they are in favor of this some people telling us that you know that even psychologically here it's very important for the two sides of this divide to reconcile and to become one palestinian people once again are saying if it fails well we're already at. anyway with no prospect of a peace deal in the offing how much worse can things get as for the politicians here i mean we were speaking to the head of the central committee this actually general the central committee. he's saying that we don't want to go there just to provide services and allow hamas to have its militias and allow it to be governing

underground while we do the you know the difficult things in terms of addressing the monetary crisis in gaza we want a fully unified national consensus not just on the details in the gaza strip but going forward how we address the occupation how we we address the issues of war and peace let's get more analysis now from al-jazeera senior political analyst one my one following on from what harry force it was saying what sticking points do you foresee that might come to the fore when this reconciliation well of this is we're just at the beginning of a process that's a process that that's ten years too late but be that as it may it's starting or not good note with lots of optimism popular support so it has a certain momentum. but the coming challenges are plentiful it starts with what you do with security in the west bank and gaza what do you do with the

conciliation what do you do in terms of. the legislative council and its convening in terms of elections in terms of the next. national government and so on so for the national unity government so there's lots and even once they finished all of that barbara not a single inch of palestine would have been liberated so all of that is just for them to run the sewerage all of that is for them to make sure there is electricity water and to make sure that people have you know a minimum not a certain normality under occupation i mean the administration and effectively of the territories i mean it's interesting obviously you talk about the you know the palestinian cause and if we think back to ten years ago i mean one of the main reasons for the split was that the international community didn't recognize hamas who had won an election which then takes me to the question where does this lead any potential possible peace process what's how is israel going going to see this

as assuming that the the reconciliation actually moves forward. and to be honest i mean the palestinians twenty four years after the failed peace process the basically dead and buried especially in the presence of prime minister netanyahu and president from there's absolutely zero horizon for any diplomatic process with the israelis that meets the minimum requirements of the most moderate palestinians so are the palestinians hamas and fatah the main factions would also have to address what is it that they're gaining out of the peace process and do they want to continue to pursue the same peace process with the same israeli partner quote unquote and the same american sponsor which is on the trumpets probably worse than obama but i guess them being united does strengthen their hand somehow doesn't it it does swing the other hand. and. you know to be a bit more nuanced we should be clear about what is going on here this whole much

much of the process is about running the autonomous territories in the west bank and gaza that's it so it's about the palestine national authority and the legislative council governing those territories in terms of diplomacy it's the palestine liberation organization the p.l.o. that the rules that are present all palestinians including those in east jerusalem including those in lebanon in jordan in the refugee areas and source of force so the pakistan liberation organization that represents all palestinians is not for the time being under scrutiny in terms of gaza the west bank preparation they want on the long term to reform the p.l.o. in order to include have mass in it but for the time being all the diplomatic agreements will continue to be honored by president abbas as the head of the p.l.o. so i think much of these arrangements do not infringe on that the productive process again the question is for the palestinian is whether they're getting anything at all out of the plus senior political analyst. thank you thank you.
