particular that the two major country actors at these meetings namely the united states and china because you know looking at these two we see a really a market contrast right now that certainly all the other member countries who are in town are observing as well and it's really a case of us trump administration retrenchment on multilateralism meeting chinese ambition on the multilateral stage the chinese in particular are using these meetings to showcase their multi-trillion dollar bill rhoden issued of which has a lot of support from the membership of the world bank and i.m.f. at the same time we're seeing comments from from u.s. government officials that are. really calling for a scaling back of lending and support from from the world bank and now these are just very different messages one that represents an ambitious agenda and the other

that really is one of retrenchment the think there are countries that are still trying to figure out what this new footing is from the united states that's different than what it's been in the past yeah absolutely i think you know i have to imagine all the delegations arriving in washington this week do so with some trepidation this has been frankly a an erratic white house it's hard to know from week to week. where they're going to stand on on key international issues partnerships bilaterally and certainly attitudes towards these multilateral institutions so more often than not we're all scratching our heads on exactly where the u.s. might stand on on these issues ok and it's got more thank you so much for joining us from washington d.c. appreciate it. kenya's government is banning opposition protests in the lead up to the repeat presidential election the government says demonstrators looted and
