zero. hello there are more of this is the news hour live from doha coming up in the next sixty minutes. serious questions over a foreign relations between the koreas the military goes on parade in pyongyang
1:01 pm
a day before the winter olympics. jails former prime minister and opposition leader on corruption charges. the escalation of syria's war the death toll rises in so-called deescalation zones and u.s. backed forces killed more than one hundred pro regime fighters. and rescue workers continue to search for survivors amongst the rubble of taiwan's. north korea has made a show of strength with a military parade n.p.r. it comes on the eve of a display of unity at the winter olympics in south korea this play was announced shortly after an agreement was reached on the north's participation in the olympics on friday north korean athletes and jews to march in the opening ceremony alongside athletes from the self. isn't political analyst and publisher
1:02 pm
of korea exposé joins us now via skype from seoul good to have you with us so this military parades in north korea it was pretty low key but is it still likely to upset the south. i think in south korea this is the best thing to they could actually have hoped for there was no question that north korea was going to go ahead with a military parade the question was just what kind of scale and size it would take on and as you said this was very much a low key event and in fact a lot of observers missed a parade because there was no live broadcast. took place very quietly and only later was their footage being aired on state broadcasters will i think this would actually give ammunition to people here in south korea who say look engagement is working and north korea is making gestures to at least try and lay down some of its
1:03 pm
very aggressive when universe so that there can be negotiation and engagement what is the tolerance though that there will be negotiation and engagement during the winter olympics or short they off to and is this an opportunity that the both sides are going to seize on. well it certainly is an opportunity from the perspective of south korea they tried really hard to set this table so to speak so that north korea and more importantly the u.s. would come and sit down and actually talk over the troll who certainly are experiencing between the two will then i think based on the gestures we have seen from north korea and this is not just a parade but also that kim jong un is sending his own sister which to south korea to the olympics and it's quite extraordinary from the perspective people here. oriel ones to at least make some kind of change i think they do see this as a game changer by judging by the reactions we have seen from washington i think
1:04 pm
south korea still has a lot of work to do before maybe the president might hans will agree true come to the table yeah they got he's going to be there at the opening ceremony alongside. the north korean leader's sister maybe not alongside but certainly at the same ceremony do expect them to rub shoulders at all that knowledge each other's presence even. i think it's safe to say that it's probably not going to have going probably due in fact there are a lot of reports right now about the considerable headache the organizers are having or were just what to do with the true parties my pens probably would be on one side of the hosted president and this ister of joan would likely be on the other side and they would most likely be several metres apart but beyond the opening ceremony what we're also hearing from mr cain says he really does not think
1:05 pm
that north korea should benefit from the games he's already said he's on record as saying that north korea's trying to hijack games for propaganda and he's also come up quite recently saying that he's going to try and push for the strongest sanctions ever against north korea because he believes in a hard line approach and that is something that clearly north korea is not going to be happy to hear absolutely those to the ips avoiding all my contacts i should imagine by the sound of things say one co thanks very much for joining us there from seoul ok let's join our correspondent tasha gun and she's live at one of the olympic hubs gagnon in south korea seven sasha we saw kept on speaking at the military parade what was his time. laura this may have been a more toned down approach this year with this military parade but the bombast the
1:06 pm
pride the patriotism is still very much on display north korean leader kim jong un has said that he's built a quote world class military and quote a powerful force despite the sanctions that north korea has faced north korea definitely in this moment is able to still patriotism and pride at home plate and that domestic audience while also making a nod to the diplomatic sensitivities of the moment kim jong un was a volatile where that many people were critical of holding this parade on the eve of the opening ceremony of the pyong chang winter olympics some critics have actually said that north korea has already hijacked the spotlight away from south korea but with this parade which was less high profile it was not broadcast live on television though it is being broadcast now on north korean state t.v.
1:07 pm
the hope is that north korea will continue at least among many here will continue its overtures and the relationship between the two koreas is in the midst of a major milestone and turning point what's the mood on that note in south korea about this joint participation with the north is there a sense of excitement perhaps anticipation that things could change. while tell you from the south korean government standpoint they are elated president comes from a refugee family he has always pushed for engagement with north korea now these winter olympics have been dubbed the peace games that is how people are about the prospects for a rebuilding of the relationship between the two koreas and the prospects for one south korean official called a lasting. peace and also just people on the ground are very excited laura the amount of interest in north koreans whether it's this two hundred plus all female
1:08 pm
cheerleading squad clad in red coats with fur trim or the figure skaters or again even this high profile delegation that's coming with kim jong un sr south koreans are riveted you do hear some as i said complaining that the north koreans are basically stomping all over the south korean spotlight but again you'd be hard pressed to find someone who isn't at least watching developments very closely as going to be a good opening ceremony to keep an eye on to thanks very much for joining us from south korea. now a former bangladeshi prime minister there has been jailed for corruption there had served as prime minister three times and is also a former first lady but corruption allegations have dogged her long life in politics she and her eldest son tariq rahman faced more than thirty charges in this case including allegations of orchestrating political violence there is
1:09 pm
a strong opponents of prime minister sheikh hasina and says the allegations are politically motivated their office had jail sentence could trigger a political and stability. is in for a so tanvi a five year sentence that's come as a surprise. quite a surprise i don't think even a lot of the critics even expected that that should get five years and the rest of the five got ten years now of course she can i talk to her defense counsel. he say that they're going to appeal the process takes once they get that verdict start a fight verdict they'll go to the high court now that could take till sunday however the law minister said the presidio there is a presidio delay to get the certified copies which means it could be artificially delayed for them to take it to the high court once
1:10 pm
a goat goes to the high code to depend on the high courts but then if they got a stay order she'll be either out on bail and even if she stays in the jail she'll still be eligible for election until a final hearing in the high court takes place even within the appellate division now let me give you the situation on the street the city where i'm standing right now is just a few blocks from the cole it is eerily silent the stores are closed schools are closed there's hardly any color in the city there's been periodic clashes in the capital city and all across the country certainly putting the country into a political uncertainty considering there is a scheduled general election in the month of december at least that's what is being say now with the main political party even if the ruling party goes to election it will hardly be accepted by the mainstream population because that was the case in two thousand and fourteen so suddenly the bangladesh nationalist party is going to
1:11 pm
carry on demonstration and protests are sunny's in in london he's probably going to precise and control over the party from along with few other top leaders who are still outside the jail thousand softball opposition grassroots leaders are behind the jail it's been a very very hard hitting against the opposition not to be able to come out in the state disk. by that thousands of people did come out in the street followed our caravan into the cold situation looks quite calm right now but there is definitely on sort of going to down the road before the election ok many thanks for the update from bangladesh now more than one hundred per regime fighters in syria have been killed by the u.s. led coalition and allied local forces us as the coalition was responding to an attack against the american backed syrian democratic forces in their eyes or province yesteryear mainly kurdish alliance controls large areas of north east and
1:12 pm
syria. well elsewhere russian and syrian government forces are continuing to bomb and shell two regions that remain in rebel hands in just four days almost two hundred people have been killed in eastern and in the north eastern province of idlib. allies near the capital damascus has been under a government siege for almost five years almost half a million people are trapped there and often suffer severe food and medical shortages meanwhile in the province bombing is also intensified since a russian plane was shot down by rebels on saturday killing the pilots. are in the so-called deescalation zones where violence was supposed to be reduced but instead the body count continues to rise by the hour and that's when our correspondent jim . turkey's border with syria so jamal what more can you tell us about
1:13 pm
these one hundred pro regime fighters that have been killed how did that come about . well or the understanding is that they are either members of hezbollah or some sort of nyon militia that has been sent in to help prop up the regime of bashar al assad this we know obviously his army was depleted in terms of resources runs the revolution turned into a war and depended heavily on shia militias that were brought in from abroad as well as obviously the russian army now let's try and break this down to our viewers a little bit here because the situation in syria is really getting more and more complicated not just because of the different factions domestically that are there but also international players in this race to try and establish some sort of status quo as people feel that the war is gearing up to some sort of a new phase you've got the syrian democratic forces as you mentioned they're mainly a kurdish paramilitary they essentially that's another name for the y.p. g.
1:14 pm
they are allied with the united states backed by them and by them what we understand is that some of the progress jeem militia were attacking those bases down in the south india resort and as a result the americans intervene through this international coalition which was launched initially to come but i saw but obviously now was used to attack those groups killing around one hundred what does that mean that means that this is either a clear message of intent from washington to say that they will stick by their proxy on the ground the kurds or it is a message directed also to the turks who are fighting the y.p. g. up north to say well you know what there's going to be a limit to how much land you'll be able to get from them with your allies with your proxies the free syrian army because washington won't allow the y.p. g. essentially to fold and that's what's making things a bit dangerous because it could get to nato allies turkey and the united states in some sort of direct confrontation inside syria and meanwhile intense bombardment
1:15 pm
and live continuing and very it's the civilians that are really paying the price. but of course i mean throughout obviously this eight year long war it is the civilians that have been really on the receiving end of the death and destruction that has killed hundreds of thousands if not up to some estimates or close to a million eastern huta is very significant because it's the closest the rebels came to controlling an area close to damascus as well as obviously what we're talking about in it live now why this is so outrageous to the international community so to speak is because as you mentioned there laura both and. part of the deescalation zones that were agreed upon between turkey iran and russia obviously that in this start a process that process is now kind of been thrown to the wind or maybe brought into question not only because of those airstrikes and the continued attack on those areas and what an idiot but also because of turkey's military intervention which
1:16 pm
has been going on now for a couple of weeks we actually went to visit one of the training camps inside syria for the free syrian army that's the rebel army group fighting alongside turkey and here is our report. prepared for battle five hundred fighters stand to attention listening to their final commands before they head off to the front line these are soldiers from the free syrian army brigade young and old they hail from all parts of syria. have been fighting since the revolution turned into a war. in the early days the enemy was gone the regime of bashar assad whose army had killed innocent protestors forcing many of its own soldiers to defect inform the free syrian army now however the war in syria is a quagmire of different armies groups and factions some fighting for land and power others for survival a lot of well they're all the same the white. and the assad regime it's the same
1:17 pm
oppression all of them have killed and tortured our people but. this brigade is being so. or should by the turkish army who soldiers fight side by side with the f.s.a. in their ongoing offensive in northern syria. it's an attempt to defeat the kurdish militia group to wipe e.g. which ankara considers to be a terrorist organization responsible for numerous rocket attacks on turkey lots of killed several of its citizens both the tarkus military and the free syrian army are hints on for size the background of these fighters are made up of kurds starkman and arabs as far as the darkest military is concerned this is a fight against a terrorist organization the y.p. far as these fighters are concerned this is a continuation in their long battle for freedom in syria who want to p.g. and its supporters accused turkey of waging war against them simply because they
1:18 pm
are kurdish but this fighter from the f.s.a. a kurd himself dismisses that. of the sort the seller son and then of the revolution began kurds demanded freedom but the white p.g. joined hands with acids army and started attacking the people as kurds were discriminated against by the government and our lands are occupied by the white p.g. terrorists but god willing we will be free. it's hard to question the commitment of these fighters in their pursuit for freedom their training and readiness however appears to be amateur the vast majority of them have no formal military training most lead simpler more peaceful lives before this war began their commander tells me that while their immediate target is often seen in defeating the white p.g. there it is said in his regime who are their main enemy foremen that y.b. she and i said are two sides of the same coin like i said they have killed south and expelled the people from their homes from assad's army to his beloved fighters
1:19 pm
to i saw and now the kurdish militia these men have countless battles in search of freedom that freedom has remained elusive the only reality they've seen is death and destruction who knows maybe one day this war will end so laura what we're seeing now on the ground is this race for some sort of it to establish some sort of presence in the areas that have still not been decided in terms of group controls i mean the biggest race that's taking place is in the northeastern part of syria between the turkish military and their allies on the ground and the americans and the kurds there on what's making of the situation obviously a lot more precarious is that this is a race taking place inside syria which obviously the government themselves are allied with the russians who do not see eye to eye neither with the turks in terms of how things should play out nor with the americans the next couple of weeks are going to be very significant and did to shape up the next say five or ten years of how syria would look like ok general thanks very much for joining us there from.
1:20 pm
there's plenty more still ahead here on the deep south including. many of you ask what will happen so i want to reassure you nothing. is really police chiefs wanting benjamin netanyahu indicted on corruption charges but the prime minister saying it will never happen. and as donald trump demands an end to so-called chain migration to the u.s. we'll examine the similar way his own family moved to america. where the winter olympics is about to begin and finally politics. israel has begun to build a controversial wall along its border with eleven construction workers taking place and the a few meters from a disputed area that both countries claim as theirs lebanese leaders say building
1:21 pm
the wall is stressing the stability of the border region arguments over the wall as well as lebanon's plans to explore for oil and gas in disputed mediterranean waters of increase for action between the two enemies states. is in that core in southern lebanon and she joins us now from the side of us will just show us if you can where this wall is being built. well ok let me show you this barbed wire is the so-called blue line the international border the internationally recognized border then you have this technical fence which was set up by the israelis to protect its border and then you can see behind them construction work is under way they have started to build the wall along its northern border and now this wall is causing tensions the lebanese believe that the israelis have made encroach on lebanese territory we mentioned that the border is internationally recognized and it is our connived by lebanon but there are certain points along this border which
1:22 pm
are still disputed so lebanon the lebanese leaders the higher defense council they held a meeting and they issued a warning to israel saying that they will not allow israel to encroach on lebanese territory so tensions are high rhetoric is tough but the higher defense counsel didn't say how levanon will respond to any eventuality of israel a building that wall on lebanese territory so the building of the wall is now under way then why is this on the way when this area has been this border area has been laws they call for over ten years. well yes it has been largely calm israel says this is for security reasons over the past years really it has been fortifying the whole border region it is still in a state of conflict with lebanon it has fought wars with the lebanese armed group has a law and it is worried that hezbollah will one day launch an attack and this time
1:23 pm
go on the offensive and not just defend lebanese land we've heard israeli ministers say that they're worried that hezbollah has acquired new weapons missiles rockets which are able to reach deep inside israeli territory so the israelis are worried about the threat from hezbollah but many in lebanon believe that an all out war is not really on the horizon it's not in anyone's into. it's not in israel's interest nor it has well as interest we have to remember there are thousands of fighters fighting in syria they have many front lines of many battles to fight so it is not in anybody's interests but lebanon making clear that it will not allow israel to take any of its territory and like you mentioned earlier there's also the dispute concerning the maritime boundaries between lebanon and israel and there a lot is at stake because there are believed to be or oil and gas ok so now to joining us from the cooper thank you very much. reports say police will soon recommend the indictment of the prime minister for corruption benjamin netanyahu
1:24 pm
and his wife deny receiving illicit gifts from billionaire benefactors including a major hollywood producer who's also alleged to have been involved in a deal with a leading newspaper to weaken a rival daily publication in return for favorable coverage iran khan has the latest from west jerusalem. prime minister benjamin netanyahu says this is going nowhere now the case has been really recommended by the police they say an indictment should be issued that's been given to the attorney general if any general then has to discuss with the state's attorney and come up with a decision whether to indict or not promise to benjamin netanyahu much like president donald trump uses social media to get his message across he's been on his facebook page he's been saying that this is going nowhere let's take a look at exactly what he had to say. many of you asked what will happen so i want to reassure you there will be nothing because i know the truth the state of israel is a state of law the law says of the one to determine whether there is evidence against
1:25 pm
the prime minister is the attorney general and he consults with the state attorney the state prosecutor said recently in measured not about half of the police recommendations and with nothing so what happens next what we're looking at evidence being gathered and taking a look at by the state's attorney with the attorney general it's unlikely that this will go anywhere because of prime minister benjamin netanyahu position he is incredibly popular amongst the hard right has a lot of political support within the hard right of that community so the pressure on the attorney general moats or bring about any kind of case also by taking this is social media he will also be saying to these ready people if you want to indict me go ahead but i don't think that's going on because we have the rule of law and those that's his exact words so we're not expecting anything to happen soon there is a procedure to go through and that's where it's at right now it's on the desk of the attorney general whatever he does we don't know but let's see what happens next.
1:26 pm
and he has supreme court has delayed the case on the destruction of a many evil mosque until next month has been a point of contention for decades twenty five years ago far right handed nationalist stormed and demolished the sixteenth century mosque they claim it was built on top of a temple destroyed by a muslim. just remember this will have all of the weather with the man the still ahead here on al-jazeera. let us thank an acknowledged the dreamers for their courage their optimism their inspiration. eight hours and seven minutes a us political leaders marathon monologue about the plight of young emigrants. under the n.b.a. le bron james as a cleveland hero once again people have all these details in school.

by the skyline of asian harbor or off the coast of the italian riviera. how the town of to keep our eye has lost two more residents in the latest round of fatal bolivian floods this is the picture of the it was a river flood i mean the up in the mountains the hill country so you get some a thunderstorm and they rush down the rivers bringing rocks and silt and if you're in the way you get sort out of the way this is the current position it's unfortunate looks like it's not the sort of the end this is second day flooding i've seen in the last week in the last i was in southern bolivia being see from the satellite pictures the showers still blew last in same area prop same province of cochabamba fifty five millimeters fell in twenty four hours that's enough in hill country to provide yet more flooding out looks like the next twenty four hours will see the heaviest rain probably in northern bolivia doesn't mean it's the end of it jumping dogs to north america or closer in the middle of winter to the record to
1:28 pm
show you in the time of erie pennsylvania right on the edge of lake erie this is had its snowiest december and it's no use to season all records so far on the winds not even over not being on the edge of the lake much of this was lake effect snow but not all of it has been this you know a white winter on the great lakes and to the east and next finger of snow is already on its way across nebraska through to chicago and up towards pennsylvania so the northeast has got yet more snow to come and i suspect every pennsylvania has some a snow record winter snow record will get even deeper. the weather sponsored by cateye race. good student news i'm good. enough to fight for what is right on the shores of padded dice progress for some can create a living hell for others challenging his government and big business one man risked
1:29 pm
his life to save the community he cherishes it is not to be that someone can do to stand up. to the opposition a witness documentary at this time on al-jazeera al-jazeera do is get the whole story the background the history and how issues in other parts of the world are connected to the absolute chaos there and tells them that showing themselves on the back of these trucks we understand all the important issues and don't want to local knowledge gives us an insight into what's around the corner he is still the citizen that mine owners hear more about profits than they do their work is safety so when the story develops al-jazeera is already there on the ground talking with the people.
1:30 pm
are going to what is there as a reminder of our top stories this hour north korean leader kim jong un has warned that his army is ready to fight if the u.s. and its allies threaten sovereignty kim speech at a military parade in pyongyang was on the eve of a display of unity at the winter olympics in south korea. about ash quarter sentence ax prime minister is there to five years in prison for corruption say i was found guilty of embezzling more than two hundred sixty thousand dollars spent for an orphanage there will now no longer be able to contest the general elections slated for this december. and russian. syrian government forces are content to bomb east and on the northern edge of the province almost two hundred people most of them civilians have been killed in the past four days. joshua landis is director of the center for middle east studies at university of oklahoma he joins us now via
1:31 pm
skype from reza in italy good to have you with us why do you think i was saying this particular escalation and fighting now we're seeing is an escalation because isis has largely been defeated the. zones were marked out around syria deescalation while the united states and russia were interested in destroying rights now that isis has largely been destroyed easier speculation zones have become up for grabs you see turkey rushing in to wrap up training in north or united states states it's going to stay the long haul in syria it owns twenty eight percent of syrian territory and the syrian regime is trying to grab the remaining rebel parts of syria including. which has been surrounded and bombarded the last few years so this is the last real scramble for syria or seemingly if you trace this attack that we mentioned that the the it was the start of the program the one
1:32 pm
hundred per regime fighters who were killed when they tried to attack us backed forces s.d.f. forces is this a case perhaps of russian testing the u.s. has resolved to stay the course. absolutely the u.s. as we recall a few months ago said towards the oil fields near garrulous or a major bridge capital in order to grab those words kurdish allies into depriving russia iran and onside of the oil resources of syria so seriously needs those oil resources to rebuild it been made at the major source of government income in the past so syria is very eager to get back that money and it's making a grab for america has laid down the hammer and said don't touch us in northern syria we're here to stay and i think that's an indication towards the turks well
1:33 pm
who are in mending to drive american kurdish forces out of men age so we've seen a lot of opposition around this area no one wants america in north syria except for the kurds they're going to cast america as gobby and saying isn't it saying how tacky and the us overcome this because potentially they can come into conflict on the battlefield they can indeed and the us i mean that turkey believes the united states is arming the kurds and siding with kurdish nationalism against turkish nationals and they're don't want to has said he's going to want this and he's going to create a a turkish demilitarized zone right around the border of turkey and that comes into direct conflict the united states will have to see whether that's just rhetoric american diplomacy is going to kick in but it could as you say end up in blows.
1:34 pm
i get to speak to thanks for joining us but. supporters of a libyan commander been protesting in the city of benghazi they say. were folly was forced to hand himself over to the forces loyal to general khalifa haftar it happened after pressure from the international criminal court. ally as allied with is wanted for alleged war crimes international criminal court has begun preliminary investigations into a case against the philippines president would you go to terror say involving his campaign against illegal drugs claims also relate to extra legal killings he allegedly ordered when he was mayor of our city two mile island dogan has more from manila. well two complaints were filed last year the first one was submitted by a witness his name is ed garment the bottle who claims he once worked for that very day when he was mayor of dubbo city in the southern philippines for decades he says
1:35 pm
deterrent it was responsible in setting up and running the notorious double death squad which run after a death drug syndicates and drug users in the area then now a supplementary complaint was submitted by members of the opposition senator on tonya three indianness and congressman gary asked the i.c.c. to look into the existing so-called war on drugs by. which he set up when he was sworn into office in two thousand and sixteen and now handled by the philippine national police the activists say that at least thirteen thousand filipinos have already been killed since that was launched in two thousand and sixteen though the i.c.c. is looking at whether there is enough evidence to try this case to chide the third day and whether the case falls under its jurisdiction now earlier the government spokesperson says that the president welcomes the preliminary examination and that he wants to appear at the i.c.c. to personally insult the process cicutto but over the past few months the tears he
1:36 pm
has already threatened to withdraw from the i.c.c. that's not going to be easy because the country he is government already has an existing investigation under the i.c.c. and that it will take more than a year after the un secretary general has received the withdrawal letter before the withdrawal actually takes effect so at this point the government has no choice but to participate with the international criminal court in its examination. rescue rescue crews in taiwan are hoping to find more earthquake survivors braving powerful aftershocks and to buildings on the brink of collapse in the port city of holly n. thousands remain missing after a magnitude six point four trauma killed nine people on tuesday from a bride has more. this rescue team from tight chong in central taiwan is preparing to go into the building for the first time. chung and his men are used to dealing with earthquakes but this building is in
1:37 pm
a particularly perilous position. as you can see it's very slanted so we have to take precautions and special gear to ensure our safety other emergency crews from across the island have also joined this operation and local media camped around the building anxiously following progress along with many others you know. we are struggling against aftershocks and bad weather but we will continue to search so we won't give up. aftershocks have become less frequent but they still look her and alarm sounds each time and eyes turn instinctively towards the teetering structure . if there is a inside the tight team stop after shock one of them shouts. and deep within the structure all they can do is wait for the transmitter and. more steel reinforcement have been brought in to prop up the building it means when the alarm sounds the crews can wait inside until the tremor passes before continuing their work but they
1:38 pm
know the time for any survivors is running out. a tight young team emerged finding no signs of life and admit the job makes them sometimes fear for their own lives. when the aftershock happens i still get nervous there's nothing you can do but get into a safe corner and pray. if survivors are still to be found alive they're likely to be in more inaccessible parts of this block harder for the rescuers to get to more dangerous for them to work in the rubble bride al-jazeera and taiwan. u.s. senate leaders have agreed a budget deal that could prevent another government shutdown the next twenty four hours but it's facing strong opposition in the house of representatives which also need to sign off on the proposal house democratic leader nancy pelosi made history and she spoke out against the deal terry case and he explains it's
1:39 pm
a confidence building step it was a marathon speech the longest continuous address adelaide in the house of representatives for eight hours in seven minutes nancy pelosi who turns seventy eight next month spoke about the plight of young immigrants in america with just a few sips of water to keep her going every day courageous patriotic dreamers lose their status every day the american dream slips through there at a breach as members of congress we have a moral responsibility act now cheaper to. extremists who are the pride of our nation and are american in every way but on paper palosi was speaking out against the compromise federal budget deal announced by senate leaders it doesn't protect the so-called dreamers from deportation that undocumented immigrants who came to the u.s. this children senate leaders admit the budget deal isn't perfect but say it to fast approaching government shutdown this bill is the product of extensive negotiations
1:40 pm
among congressional leaders and the white house no one would suggest it is perfect but we work hard to find common ground and stay focused on serving the american people the budget deal doesn't have everything democrats want it doesn't have everything republicans want but it has a great deal of what the american people want the budget deal if approved will lift caps so military and domestic spending but first it must get through the house of representatives and there's a position from both republicans and democrats this will probably pass the senate but in the house it's meeting with opposition from a lot of very conservative republicans who are deficit hawks and object to the fact that this deal while at half a trillion dollars to the federal budget deficit and democrats are angry led by nancy pelosi because it doesn't do anything to protect the so-called dreamers the contentious issue of protecting undocumented migrants led to
1:41 pm
a brief government shutdown last month it could well do so again soon to make america more american. victoria gate and be out there. well immigration is one of the biggest sticking points for democrats as they negotiate a budget deal with donald trump's republican party and this includes so-called chain migration refers to a person bringing members of their family to the u.s. after being granted residency trump wants an end to it but as she have returns explains the president's own ancestors came to america that very way. we need to end chain migration that when the white house uses the term chain migration it's meant to suggest migrants yanking a chain and pulling in all of their unskilled extended family to settle in the u.s. but that's how migration has worked in the u.s. since the country's founding researches have dug up some notable examples of families reuniting after settling in the u.s. for example don't trump whose mother left scotland to join her sister who'd already settled in the u.s.
1:42 pm
