4:03 pm
state level action now the joint investigation team which is the international group of prosecutors looking into the destruction of m.h. seventeen in two thousand and fourteen. basically said that it was a specific brigade of the russian army the fifty third anti-aircraft missile brigade which moved a boot missile system from the base near kursk in south western russia across the ukrainian border into the conflict zone in eastern ukraine in the summer of two thousand and fourteen it was then used to shoot down seventeen and after that the book was moved back to russia again and so for australia and the netherlands this information was enough to push forward and essentially accused russia of being responsible for the deaths of all those people in the netherlands are saying this is a complex legal process essentially they want russia to talk to them to work
4:04 pm
together to basically rip rican pen to recompense the families of those who lost people on boards that flight it's going to take some time and the netherlands are saying that perhaps the next step in the process to move this on is to go to an international court or an international organization organization of some sort or a russia is always denied involvement in both ukrainian war and the downing of m.h. seventeen is any of this likely to change that. i think not i mean we're hearing more of the same at the moment we've had four years of it essentially for the russian state saying that it has nothing to do with the downing of seventy the defense ministry in recent hours has said to the.

missile system must have been the ukrainian missile system that it had no missiles dating from one thousand eight hundred six which is when the j.i.t. said that this missile was produced. that it had no systems that it had moved across the border into ukraine the kremlin has also said that it doesn't trust the j r t s findings that russia has not been properly involved in the investigation so these kinds of denials have been going on for some time and they are continuing essentially for you know for russia this is a political culture where admitting any kind of guilt or contrition essentially seen as a sign of weakness and putin who has invested so much political capital in his image around the world as a kind of strongman leader it's basically not in his interests to back away from that back down or accept any of these findings now very many thanks.

live in st petersburg. u.s. president donald trump has called north korea's response to him canceling their summit warm and productive but expressed hope for peace june twelfth would have been the first time that a sitting u.s. president met with the north korean leader dance of growth in recent days on whether the summit would actually happen and on thursday trump canceled the historic summit in singapore with a letter north korea said it's still willing to sit down for talks with the u.s. at any time and called trump's decision extremely regrettable china has called for the u.s. and north korea to be patient and to meet each other halfway but the u.s. house minority leader nancy but nancy pelosi says that kim jong un currently has the upper hand. i think it's a good thing for kim jong un here you had a thug a person who killed all is own family members a person who has runs

a police state being legitimized by the president of the united states they were on a par with each other he got global recognition and regard he's the big winner and we got this letter from the president saying ok never mind he must be having a giggle fit right there now in north korea and telling young it's unfortunate because if you say you want to be optimistic you want to be hopeful that something can come of something and france's president has expressed his willingness to help bring the us north korea back to the negotiating table left wanted to this position france is prepared to help in this work but i think it is also for the international community and its entirety in a multilateral context and perhaps for the united nations to play a special role and so i hope that this is just an incident within the process which must continue and of which we know the ultimate aim which is coherent with our international aims and is vital for the region so i hope we do not stop there but

a way forward. in place of improving ties could there be a return to the hard line dictated by the u.s. and demanded of its east asian allies. in order for north korea to change their policies it is necessary for japan and the u.s. and south korea to apply pressure including the united nations sanctions. with the united states' call to stand firm against north korea south korea in hopes of mediating a historic breakthrough may be as shouted as the tunnels of. robert bright al-jazeera soul. not a soul as there's andrew thomas is there andrew president trump cancels the singapore summit north korea responds within the last hour president trying tweets that that response was warm and productive and he expressed his hope for peace what are we to make of it. well all day we've been getting these mixed messages right
4:11 pm
from that letter that donald trump wrote to north korea's leader which expressed a mix of threats and praise and this is yet more of that now this is donald trump who earlier on thursday u.s. time canceled the meeting is now saying that maybe it can be put back on at some stage is what he said just within the last out of the u.s. president very good news to receive the warm and productive statement of north korea we will soon see where it will lead hopefully the long and enduring prosperity in peace only time and talent will tell well that seems to be in the spirit of what is hoped here in south korea that this is a postponement rather than a full cancellation and so you look like a full cancellation we get a tweet like that from the u.s. president so soon afterwards and perhaps things can be put back on track that's certainly the hope here in south korea and it would thing as well from the statement from the north koreans earlier on friday north korean time which is of
4:12 pm
course what the trump was responding to in that the north korean statement they talked about wanting to do everything they could still for peace and stability there open all the time willing to sit with us and give them time and opportunity that's what donald trump was responding to so again after all this tension and violent language between the so you saw it's now this reproach more it seems between the two sides and yet the summit is not on this road and robert broad support a few moments ago south korea's president perhaps has a right to feel somewhat missed about all of this what's being made of it there what are people saying. well i think rove used the word of one of his guests played indignant and that is certainly the feeling that having been through the process of having his own meeting with kim jong il and president moon here it does fail as if the rug is being pulled from underneath him and he said earlier on friday that it was very regrettable that the summit of being canceled that his prime minister who's actually in austria again in the last hour or so has given
4:13 pm
a statement in fact he was talking to some reporters were meeting with the austrian chancellor and he said the preliminary cancellation of this summit is very regrettable but we hope this might simply be a perspire humans and that the meeting might still happen after all that again is in this spirit that things aren't necessarily afternoon that this isn't a full on cancellation this may be a postponement rather than a full cancellation and i certainly the hope a huge disappointment there was real feeling in seoul that there was momentum and that this summit was going to be the starting point for a great new stage into korean relations and of course that seems to have gone away interestingly though a key advisor to the president here also called. an advisor to president reagan who is moving as well he thinks earlier on friday that the reasons he thinks that this summit has been perspire owns canceled perhaps is less about
4:14 pm
the foreign language in two sides and more about the nitty gritty of what denuclearization means in practice and what should have come first it has been proven denuclearization by the north korean side actively destroying any nukes they might have before a reward concurrent with a reward or after and he thinks that in the preliminary talks that were going on here recently behind the scenes that would become a sticking point and they didn't think they could sort that out in time before and that is why this summit has been cancelled flash perspire so again he is suggesting there that if they can iron out these issues given more time than a summit may be back on the agenda given more time and are many things dangerous to live in seoul. police in new york have charged a hollywood producer harvey weinstein with rape sex abuse and other crimes against true women more than one hundred women have accused him of sexual misconduct including rape weinstein's name has become linked to the start of the me too

movement so you're gay go reports. the movie mogul who once had hollywood at his command now is forced to reckon with his past as he surrendered to police of allegations of sexual abuse and the campaigns of coersion he exerted on women the criminal case involves charges of raping one woman and forcing another to perform a sex act on him but these are not the only accusations that weinstein faces since the news broke last october of his alleged personal behavior more and more high profile actresses have since come forward to talk about their experiences with weinstein including actress rose mcgowan who publicly accused weinstein of rape is also alleged by one publication that weinstein had hired spies including full mossad agents to discredit and suppress her accusations i've had a lot of years of trauma at the hands of this man and just seeing his face everywhere he was our president and the world that i was in. and this morning i

turn on the t.v. and there is his face and this is before the news broke of his you know arraignment his impending arraignment and you know you dive for the remote trying to stop it trying to stop it and it it's just shocking it's doesn't cease to be a shock when i see is face it doesn't cease to be horrible it doesn't cease to jar me and i and i know i'm not the only one. points dean's fall from grace has such shock waves throughout the film industry and went on to galvanize the me to movement that led thousands to tell their own stories of abuse from sexual predators and the shadow of his scandal has been a presence at award ceremonies including this year's cannes film festival where actor and filmmaker has a lot of gentle recounted her own experiences in one thousand nine hundred seven i was raped by harvey weinstein he wrecked can i was twenty one years old
4:17 pm
this festival was his hunting ground i want to make a prediction harvey weinstein will never be welcome to or ever again. a grand jury has been hearing evidence in the case for weeks and with or to use in california and london are also investigating assault allegations some of them date back to the one nine hundred eighty s. and britain has no statute of limitations on rape cases so you go. live out of washington and i'm serious kimberly how could we so briefly that harvey weinstein arriving and giving himself up in new york what's happened this morning carefully. well even more dramatic is when he accepted that police station he went in a free man walking in own accord but he left in handcuffs as any other common criminal would be treated in the united states it's just an incredible
4:18 pm
image when you think of the power that harvey weinstein once wielded and hollywood . behind so many monumental films in the makings of so many careers but now reduced to this this image that is certain to be played on television screens repeatedly not just today but her attention for years to come now he faces a whole host of charges first and third degree rape sexual misconduct first degree sex act what happens next is he faces a judge where he will have to answer to these charges entering a plea we are told by his attorney of not guilty that all of these acts that he is accused of his attorney says were consensual and equivocally so it's likely that he will be released on a very high bond of two million dollars likely with extensive restrictions till he awaits his trial a court appearance is again but this is certainly something that is not going to
4:19 pm
stop just in new york because as a reporter pointed out there are allegations all around the world los angeles london and investigation still ongoing so certainly this is a process that may have begun formally in terms of the justice system in new york city but is likely to continue for months if not years around the world and to what extent does it come to this down to me true movement of its movement to. well certainly it has continued to grow as our reporter pointed out that we saw very compelling stories from women that continue to come forward feeling emboldened feeling safer as a result of what has taken place but what we've also seen here in the united states adrian is that it expands beyond hollywood we've had very prominent journalists like matt lauer who was a household name every morning here in the united states losing his job as a result of accusations we've also seen actors that are now defending themselves including morgan freeman more recently so certainly well this started in hollywood
4:20 pm
it seems to have expanded not just to two men being accused of predatory behavior because of their power in the entertainment industry but even in the ordinary workplace where many of the people who are coming forward with these allegations are saying you know i didn't have the means before because i was an immigrant i had limited english skills but are now feeling that they can be a part of this conversation as a result of what has taken place with regard to harvey weinstein or i can believe many thanks live in washington over the news from al-jazeera still to come on the program canadian police looking for a motive for a restaurant bombing that wounded fifteen people. cycling heads for after devastating the yemeni island of cultural. and sport the houston rockets are on the brink of booking their place in the n.b.a. finals we'll tell you how the. did it coming up.

seriousness barker is live for us in dublin it's been struck described as a once in a generation vote why is it such an emotive topic in ireland. yes that's right adrian that description from leo veronica the country's prime minister it is a hugely emotive hugely divisive decision here i've seen families split down the middle there's a divide geographically between east and west between urban and rural areas between young and old largely because it pitches socially conservative values in a country that is a very conservative religiously conservative country against those that want liberal reforms on both sides of the divide believe that they're standing up for human rights. i wish people have been given an important choice in a highly contentious referendum ahead of the vote come painters from both sides of

the argument took the debate to the people islands voting on whether to repeal the eighth amendment of the country's constitution that all but berms abortion. the law says that the life of a mother and unborn fetus are equal abortions only allowed if there is a serious risk to the mother's life not in cases of rape incest or serious optimality those that break the law or face a maximum fourteen year prison sentence. is a doctor she's voting yes to repeal the eighth amendment she was pregnant with her third child when things started to go wrong we discovered that our baby had a condition called. him at the top half of his head had never formed that was nothing about his brain. and that he would not survive. would have to carry the child to full term possibly another twenty weeks she travelled to liverpool in the u.k.

choosing a different path helped by political leaders like the country's prime minister who fax a change of the law. the government's proposed limited access to abortions during the first twelve weeks of pregnancy subject to medical advice if the referendum is passed for many in this debate that's a step too far both sides say they're seeking a compassionate. to a difficult question. well voting is well underway we've been at this polling station in central dublin for most of the day there's been a steady stream of voters here seems replicated of course up and down the country we even know that some ballot boxes have been delivered to some of the most remotest islands on the west coast of ireland to the result won't be known until saturday afternoon the count begins on saturday morning and whoever wins in inverted commas this very challenging referendum will have the power to influence politics and legislation going forward for many years to come. they have many

around two hundred thousand people so lots of people will be impacted by this storm landfall around twenty one hundred g.m.t. this evening so not too far away sustained winds of one hundred sixty five kilometers per hour and as we were hearing those gusts approaching two hundred kilometers per hour so damaging winds certainly a possibility a likelihood the storm makes its way further north woods along the border pushing up towards the far south of saudi arabia by around sunday this is the scene already ahead of the storm you can see the awful conditions of the mountains in the background the high ground there look how the water is just tumbling down and i think this will be becoming a rather more frequent say and i think as we go on through the coming hours special little further north was take a closer look so that's a position of the storm as we go through the remainder of friday night in further northward some parts could see two hundred maybe three hundred millimeters of rain average annual rainfall for salada is
