however we've still got some rather disturbed weather into the middle east not too much to speak of the truth and i mean of course northern parts of the region at that you can see a little bit of cloud spilling out to turkey i'm sure that's the black sea towards the caspian sea bass places of cloud and right and also into that far eastern side of afghanistan is pushing over towards the high ground there will chain of storms there pushing up into turkmenistan into the. driest guys come back in behind a few showers there from northern parts of iran as we go on through sunday monday same weekend some big a lot of these showers here could lead to some localized flooding society one to watch out for elsewhere is generally fine and dry so far to try really hot and dry forty two for baghdad that's hot enough twenty eight a pleasant twenty eight therefore by report that also a breeze just feeding in from the mediterranean sea pleasant across the web and

3:50 pm
a process that eventually leads to kim ending his nuclear program china's been hosting its own summit will have more from florence lawyer in beijing but first we begin with adrian brown in singapore where the summit will be held according to local media editor and he's there talk us through what's going to be happening next. yes that's quite right media here in singapore has reported that kim jong un arrived here during the past fifteen minutes we understand he arrived on an air china flight that had been allocated to him by the chinese government that's very significant because it shows of course the china is still very much in the mix as regards this summit even though president xi jinping will not be attending it it was a seven hour flight and this ensured that of course the air craft passed through chinese airspace for as long as possible passing even across the island of finance
3:51 pm
and then down into southeast asia now there has been very very tight security the north koreans of course always worried about the prospect of that assassination attempt but the chinese i think were able to say we can guarantee your security if you are in one of our aircraft one of our aircraft passing through our airspace now of course this is only the second international flight that the north korean leader has taken since he became leader of his country at the end of two thousand and eleven the last flight he took was to the city of daraa in northeast china a few weeks ago when he met president xi jinping now later today we understand the north korean leader will be meeting with singapore's prime minister who of course is hosting these two world leaders president donald trump and kim jong un and of course singapore is anxious for this also goes smoothly because if this is a successful summit then singapore of course is going to bask in the diplomatic
3:52 pm
limelight and driving in from the airport now of course jane kim jong un will be looking at this more than metropolis and wondering you know is it possible that one day perhaps even some of this could rub off on my own country could i perhaps turn north korea into something similar to singapore one day if it all goes well you know the united states china and others have said they're prepared to give financial assistance to. north korea but of course their head lies months perhaps years of complex negotiations and that of course will begin on tuesday when that summit opens here in singapore this will be a moment of real history here we have orderly controlled singapore playing host to two of the world's most unpredictable leaders and i mean it is potentially quite exciting and he could possibly kim jong un get exactly what he wants but he has to play the game we don't know what the game is yet between him and trump is on his
3:53 pm
way over what are the expectations now from both sides. well i think the expectations are that there could possibly be broad agreement on an agreement to end formally end the korean war at the moment we have an armistice which basically means we've got the world's longest running ceasefire there is i think a real optimism a belief that perhaps we could have a formal peace treaty not necessarily signed now but an agreement to sign some time in the future and then of course there's the more complex issue of denuclearization and both united states and north korea have very different definitions of what that should be and indeed how long it should take and whether it applies to first long range nuclear missiles followed by short range nuclear missiles there are a normal obstacles to sort out and no one is underestimating the size of this diplomatic challenge remember you know north korea and the united states are still
3:54 pm
two countries who are technically at war they are sworn enemies and yet in singapore they will be sitting down face to face but as we know with these two unpredictable leaders the only thing that's really certain is of course uncertainty and we watch that slow cavalcade moving its way into the center of singapore thanks to that age and a north korea's closest ally china hasn't been in via. to take part in the singapore summit but as florence laurie reports beijing's influence is already obvious. welcome to dandong city on the chinese border with north korea here you get a sense of china's relationship with its neighbor a large part of it to even by trade chinese goods flow across the border although international sanctions have slow this down somewhat china has long been a close ally of north korea siding with the north in the korean war in one nine hundred fifty and then providing it with political and economic backing since. in
3:55 pm
recent years though north korea's pursuit of nuclear arms accelerated under its young leader kim jong un has strained relations but it's in both countries interest to preserve the alliance especially when it comes to dealing with the world's superpower the united states. china uses north korea as a poll to tell the u.s. if you press me on the trip war i can exert more influence on north korea as for north korea it goes say to the u.s. it's not just me negotiating with you i have china supporting me so you can be too harsh on me and knew to take things out of my own pace many analysts say the upcoming summit between u.s. president donald trump and north korean leader kim jong would not be taking place if not for china's backing in announcing that the summit would take place on tuesday trumpet mentioned chinese president xi jinping whom he said had helped out
3:56 pm
quite a bit with this but only a week before that he had blamed china for north korea's hostile attitude which had led him to cancel the meeting last month or in early may kim met president xi in the chinese city of dalin and trump suggested that kim's attitude changed after that meeting but with the summit now back on many will be looking to see what china gets out of it. china doesn't want western in floors at the door china was a buffer zone but it is paying a heavy price to maintain the keim rejean china wants to join the reconstruction work in north korea was this a stone the news that the summit is now back on has generated optimism that sanctions on north korea may ease and with that a boom in business. property prices have soared leading the local government to tighten regulations china recently resumed flights between beijing n.p.r.
3:57 pm
young china may not be at the negotiation table but they'll be looking to make its presence felt. china's been hosting the shanghai cooperation organization summit let's go live now to florence or here is in beijing and what's come out of it so far. well you know some analysts see this shanghai cooperation organization or f c o as a counterweight to the groupings and let the lead dominated by the u.s. and its allies now this organization is made up of eight members it's led by china and russia it was set up in two thousand and ones and nearly two decades ago now recently included india and pakistan and its grouping and with that it represents about forty percent of the world's population but only about twenty percent of the world's g.d.p. so in terms of economic and trade it isn't really a heavyweight but because it's got china and russia it is a bit of
3:58 pm
a these are two heavyweights in the international arena and we've already seen some leaders taking the opportunity using this summit as a chance to speak up to speak up we've seen we've heard the iranian president criticize the u.s. for what he calls unilateralism in withdrawing from the iranian nuclear deal not only that he's praised russia and china for their efforts in mend taining that deal so we could likely see going forward as perhaps this grouping not just acting as a counterweight to existing groupings led by the u.s. and its allies but also this grouping perhaps gaining in importance and prominence in the years to come now we're also seeing that we've also seen what happened at the g. seven this weekend with perhaps u.s. allies down feeling that they can no longer count on the u.s. traditionally their allies for support and for leadership we've seen how the u.s. pulled out of the paris climate accord as well in the rainy and nuclear deal so
